RUSH: Here’s Benny in Blue Springs, Missouri, dangerously close to Independence, Missouri, where Obama was earlier this week to define his own patriotism. Hello, Benny.

CALLER: Hi, Rush. Maha Rushie Italian-American mega dittos.

RUSH: Thank you, sir, very much.

CALLER: Regarding the usage of Swiftboating. On Turner Classic Movies, Spielberg had the audacity to defend his movie Munich so he wouldn’t, quote, ‘be Swiftboated.’

RUSH: Wait a minute, now, Spielberg had the audacity to defend the movie Munich so he wouldn’t —

CALLER: I think Spielberg is a big joke, by the way, and the whole concept of Swiftboating.

RUSH: Yeah, I’m not familiar with Munich.

CALLER: Oh, that’s where he made the Jews out to be Nazis, going after the Arabs.

RUSH: Oh, oh, okay. I’m not familiar with the movie. That’s why I’m sitting here scratching my head going, ‘What have I missed?’

CALLER: You couldn’t miss much.

RUSH: The point was, he didn’t want to be Swiftboated, which meant he didn’t want to be criticized, lied about, what?

CALLER: Yeah, that’s what he thinks. He thinks that by him mis-portraying history, that that’s okay, that, you know, don’t bother me, don’t call my ears big.

RUSH: Hmm. Well, they’re trying to redefine the term, I guarantee you. It’s no different than any other criticism of anybody who is a liberal that’s accurate, they call it an attack. You’re not allowed to tell the truth about them. Anyway, Benny, thanks for the call.

John in Corning, New York, nice to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Hey Rush a real pleasure to speak with you. It’s an honor and a privilege.

RUSH: Thank you very much.

CALLER: I just wanted to mention something. I took notes while Barack Obama was making his Independence speech on patriotism.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: And, you know, he’s saying that patriotism is a gut feeling, an instinct, a feeling like something crawling up your leg. Patriotism is not having to say you’re a patriot, it is living a heart-loved commitment for your country to serve, protect, and defend its Constitution (audio burp) having US Supreme Court justices who strictly interpret the Constitution to protect our rights and our ideals as Americans.

RUSH: He said it’s a gut instinct?

CALLER: A gut feeling like something crawling up your leg.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: You know. And really, patriotism, you live it through your life, through your associations. Now, what I see with his wife saying never been proud of America, to him having his radical associations with radical Islamists and Nation of Islam, his former pastor, by the way, is being protected by the Nation of Islam. For the life of me, now, I can’t understand — now, I was raised up in the sixties — I can’t understand how it is that we need the Nation of Islam protecting anyone in this country. This is America.

RUSH: Well, because the guy has sympathies for the Nation of Islam and Calypso Louie Farrakhan. You’re exactly right. The notion of patriotism is found in the heart.

CALLER: That’s right.

RUSH: It’s not found in the gut.

CALLER: That’s right. You know it when you see it and when you live it, people know it. You don’t have to say you’re a patriot. That’s what patriotism is not. You don’t have to say you’re a patriot.

RUSH: Exactly. That’s the real question about why do this speech. Democrats are constantly defending themselves on this throughout the entire 20-year star-studded career of the EIB Network. I can count numerous times — Dukakis had to do it, a number of Democrats have had to go out and try to explain patriotism and try to define it. Now, why, if there’s an instinct at play here, it is this, a lot of Americans instinctively understand that Democrats have a different definition of patriotism, that it’s not founded on love of country, it’s founded on shame of country, and the country needs to be changed because they are so ashamed of it. They know that’s not going to win any elections and they come out with these flowery speeches defining their own patriotism as though they’re guilty.
