RUSH: We now go to the audio sound bites from today. The Messiah, the Most Merciful Lord Barack Obama this morning was in Israel with the Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. This is before he took questions from the press. The Messiah made this announcement. 
OBAMA: My understanding is, uh, this gentleman right here is going to actually call on people so that I don’t get in trouble with any of you. I want — I want all of you to like me. So I’m going to — He’s going to be the bad guy. He’s going to make the decision.
RUSH: The Messiah exhibiting some unknown insecurity here, previously unknown. He wants all the reporters to like him. Now, if he wants all the reporters to like him, he must think that some of them don’t. And how in the world could he get that impression? How in the world could Obama think they don’t not just like him, but love him? How could he get that impression? They worship Obama! They are disciples. He wants them to like him. I’m going to tell you, I know this may have been halfway lighthearted, but with Obama, I think he desperately means this. And I know that you in your personal life, you have known people whose objective it is to be liked. And what are they? Phonies, are they not? They try to be whatever it is they think somebody else wants them to be so that they will be liked. Nobody can pull that off, but they’re all phonies, the people who try to do that.
This is what Obama said about — ooh, we’re not going to be able to squeeze it in. I just noticed this is a 56-second bite and so is the next one, 54 seconds. So we’ll save these. The next two here are about how he will use his powers of persuasion to convince the Iranians not to make nuclear weapons, and then a tortured answer to a question on negotiating with Hamas. All that and much more coming up, plus this Washington Post editorial today. Let me summarize it for you before reading some of the excerpts. Getting bogged down in facts here, US commanders in Iraq and the Iraqi government do not support Obama’s strategy, and Afghanistan is not the central front in the war on terror. This is the point the Post is making in this editorial. They are today’s Judas betraying The Messiah in the Drive-By Media. There’s a reason why this is happening, too.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Now, back to the audio sound bites. Two of them for now from the press conference this morning in Israel. This is Obama, the Messiah, the Most Merciful One explaining how he will use his powers of persuasion to convince the Iranians not to make nuclear weapons.
OBAMA: What I said in response to — was that I would, at my time and choosing, be willing to meet with any leader if I thought it would, uh, promote the national security interests of the United States of America. My whole goal in terms of, uh, having tough, serious direct diplomacy, uh, is not because I’m naive about the nature of any of these regimes. I’m not. It is because if we show ourselves willing to talk and to offer carrots and sticks in order to, uh, deal with, uh, these pressing problems and if Iran then rejects any overtures of that sort, it puts us in a stronger position to mobilize the international community to ratchet up the pressure on Iran.
RUSH: Do you, ladies and gentlemen, realize history is just starting today? Nothing has happened before Obama went to the Middle East. Nothing has happened! We haven’t tried anything with Iran and we’re not going to try anything until Obama gets in the Oval Office. This is rambling incoherence. Just what in the hell does he think we have been doing for years with the Iranians? ‘We’re going to offer them carrots and sticks in order to deal with these pressing problems. If they reject any overtures of that sort, it puts us in a stronger position to mobilize the…’ The international community has been mobilized. The international community and the IAEA, the International Atomic Energy, Agency, they have all been involved in this for years, sir. And it hasn’t gotten us anywhere!
They are laughing at us. They are laughing at you today. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is laughing himself silly as are the mullahs listening to you, because they know what you just said. So when they finish listening to your sound bite, the mullahs and Ahmadinejad are going to get together and say (doing mullah impression), ‘Good, good! He is going to continue foreign policy, which means doing nothing!’ This does add up to the fact that all that needs to happen is for Obama to meet with these people and the power of his personality and his presence will cause to see life in a different shade. History is just now beginning, Snerdley. Nothing happened yesterday. Nothing happened 20 or 30 years ago. Here’s Obama with a tortured answer on negotiating with Hamas.
OBAMA: It is very hard to negotiate wiiiith a group that is not — is not representative of a nation state, does not recognize the right to exist. Uh, has consistently used terror as a weapon aaaand is deeply influenced by other countries.
RUSH: Oh, my gosh!
OBAMA: I think that, ah, ah, Hamas leadership will have to make a decision at some point —
RUSH: Good lord.
RUSH: — as to whether it is a serious political party seeking to represent the aspirations of the Palestinian people —
RUSH: Oh, come on, Obama. You can’t be serious!
OBAMA: And as a consequence willing to recognize Israel’s right to exist and renounce violence as a tool to, uh, achieve its aims, uh, or whether it wants to continue to operate, uh, as a terrorist organization.
RUSH: What do you think? Ladies and gentlemen, I am near speechless. That doesn’t happen often. Once again, history began today. None of this has ever been known. Do you realize that these pronouncements, these answers to questions are simply setting the table as to the way things are? That’s all he’s doing. He’s saying, ‘Yeah, Iran’s a bad guy and Hamas is going to have to make up their mind whether they want to join the league of nations or whether they want to continue to be terrorists.’ What do you think they’re going to do? Have they renounced, will they renounce their desire to blow Israel off the map or march all the Jews into the Mediterranean? No. This is what you get. This guy doesn’t think. He is a product of what he has learned in the classrooms at Harvard and some of these other Ivy League places that he has been.
He is classic here. He is an appeaser, and he thinks this is tough talk. These people, they are salivating. I guarantee you these groups are going to send emissaries to the United States to campaign for this guy. They might even send campaign contributions — laundered, of course. Mind boggling. Now, what’s mind boggling? He can say what he wants. He can go out, and he’s making a fool of himself here. If anybody listens to any of this stuff substantively, but they’re not, not in the Drive-By Media because again it doesn’t matter what he’s saying. He is making history and the Drive-Bys want to make history. The Drive-Bys want to be in on this history-making and so they have to deflect attention away from what he says because what he says, a sixth grader — well, a sixth grader 40 years ago — would be able to say what Obama is saying today.
It might take a junior in college these days to have been educated to this point, but this is being treated as revolutionary, as unique, as unprecedented; glowing, glowing revelations of pure intelligence. ‘Why, this — this! — is so presidential.’ This is not presidential. This is pathetic. This is embarrassing. This is ignorance. You are listening to syllable after syllable after syllable. When they’re all put together, it equals ignorance. This is… ‘Hamas is going to have to make a decision at some point as to whether it’s a serious political party seeking to represent the aspirations of the Palestinian people.’ (scoffs) Let’s move on to the Washington Post editorial today. ‘The initial media…’ By the way, they are hitting him. They are Judas today, and I’m going to tell you why. ‘The initial media coverage of Barack Obama’s visit to Iraq suggested that the Democratic candidate found agreement with his plan to withdraw all US combat forces on a 16-month timetable.
‘So,’ writes the Washington Post, ‘it seems worthwhile to point out that, by Mr. Obama’s own account, neither US commanders nor Iraq’s principal political leaders actually support his strategy.’ (gasp!) Heresy, ladies and gentlemen! Heresy! This is worse than Balz’s Judas act yesterday. The Washington Post editorial just pointed out that ‘neither US commanders, nor Iraq’s principle political leaders actually support’ Obama’s strategery. ‘Gen. David H. Petraeus, the architect of the dramatic turnaround in US fortunes, ‘does not want a timetable,’ Mr. Obama reported with welcome candor during a news conference yesterday. In an interview with ABC [the American Barack Channel], he explained that ‘there are deep concerns about . . . a timetable that doesn’t take into account what [American commanders] anticipate might be some sort of change in conditions.’
‘Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who has a history of tailoring his public statements for political purposes,’ more on that in a moment, ‘made headlines by saying he would support a withdrawal of American forces by 2010. But an Iraqi government statement made clear that Mr. Maliki’s timetable would extend at least seven months beyond Mr. Obama’s. More significant, it would be ‘a timetable which Iraqis set’ — not the Washington-imposed schedule that Mr. Obama has in mind. It would also be conditioned on the readiness of Iraqi forces, the same linkage that Gen. Petraeus seeks. As Mr. Obama put it, Mr. Maliki ‘wants some flexibility in terms of how that’s carried out.’ Other Iraqi leaders were more directly critical,’ of the Messiah.
‘As Mr. Obama acknowledged, Sunni leaders in Anbar province told him that American troops are essential to maintaining the peace among Iraq’s rival sects and said they were worried about a rapid drawdown. … Yet Mr. Obama’s account of his strategic vision remains eccentric. He insists that Afghanistan is ‘the central front’ for the United States, along with the border areas of,’ as he says Pok-ee-stahn. ‘But there are no known al-Qaeda bases in Afghanistan,’ Taliban, yes, ‘and any additional US forces sent there would not be able to operate in the [Pok-ee-stahni] territories where Osama Bin Laden is headquartered. While the United States has an interest in preventing the resurgence of the Afghan Taliban,’ Tal-ee-bahn, as he pronounces it, ‘the country’s strategic importance pales beside that of Iraq…’ Shazam! Did you hear that, Brian?
The Washington Post just said that the whole mission in Afghanistan pales compared to the importance of Iraq, ‘which lies at the geopolitical center of the Middle East and contains some of the world’s largest oil reserves. Oh, no!’ The Washington Post, ladies and gentlemen, stop the presses. This is true Judas behavior. Washington Post lead editorial just said two things. Iraq, far more important than Afghanistan. Reason, oil. The left-wing, fringe kooks are going to be livid over this. ‘If Mr. Obama’s antiwar stance has blinded him to those realities, that could prove far more debilitating to him as president than any particular timetable.’ Now, some people might ask, ‘Hey, Rush.’ Because every time this happens, people say, ‘Hey, Rush, are the media starting to get it?’ and I always start to recoil when I hear this because too many people on our side are looking for validation from the Drive By Media.
In other words, when the Drive By Media says we were right,’ we go, ‘Yeah! Yeah! We were right! They say so!’ We don’t need them to say we’re right! I’ll tell you what this is all about. The Washington Post editorial page has been pretty consistent on the importance of Iraq. The editorial page has. They get it, for some reason. They understand it. Number two, I am convinced that the editorial writers of the Washington Post are themselves hurling at this coverage that Obama is getting from the traveling helicopter parents known as the Drive-By Media on this summer trip of his. I think a lot of people in the media are. Not a lot. I think there are some who look at this and say, ‘This is not good for us. I mean, yeah, we’re in the tank for this guy, but this doesn’t even look professional. This just looks like adoration. This just looks like a rock concert. It just looks like a bunch of teenagers dazzled by the presence of somebody; not even caring what he says, knows, thinks or is going to do,’ and so the Post trying to balance a little bit of this, but at the same time they are not going to change their minds about Obama. They’re going to vote Obama when the time comes. They are going to endorse Obama when the time comes. But at the same time they will be able to have said, they, in the midst of all this fawning coverage, have been (ahem) balanced. Regardless all that, they are right about everything they have written here and they have basically said Obama’s a dunce. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. That’s the sum total. That’s the translation of this editorial.
