Folks, there's something significant that happened out there. Carla Bruni, the first lady of France, she's written a book, and in the book she lets the cat out of the bag that Michelle Obama hates being first lady, hates the job. This is from the UK Daily Mail: "Michelle Obama thinks being America's First Lady is 'hell', Carla Bruni reveals today in a wildly indiscreet book. Miss Bruni divulges that Mrs Obama replied when asked about her position as the U.S. president's wife: 'Don't ask! It's hell. I can't stand it!'" Well, I got a suggestion, then. I don't know if she can't stand him, can't stand being the president's wife, doesn't like being first lady. "Details of the private conversation, which took place at the White House during an official visit by Nicolas Sarkozy last March, emerged in Carla and the Ambitious, a book written in collaboration with Miss Bruni."
Now, you will not see one domestic US News network or service covering this story, which tells me how big it is. The media is going to ignore this like conservative people ignore me. They're going to leave it across the pond. That tells me this is a big story. Now, the next thing is why would Carla Bruni do this? Why be this indiscreet? Why let this kind of cat out of the bag? Why publish a book that says Moochelle Obama thinks the job is hell? Now, if it's true, this would go a long way in explaining the endless string of lavish vacations and parties. You know, I have postulated for the longest time that they're out of the White House so much, he is, I don't think they like it. I think the White House to them is not a positive historical place. I think they look at the White House where a lot of really bad stuff was decided, and bad stuff happened, and I don't think they like being there.
If I were president, I'd never leave the place. I'd be so honored to be in there, every friend I had would be spending every weekend there. I'd be touring it every day in my off time. I'd want to soak up every amount of history I could. You couldn't get me out -- maybe to Camp David for the same reason -- but you couldn't get me out. These people can't wait to get out of it, which has always struck me. (interruption) It's on "Jacob" Tapper's site on ABC? Jacob Tapper? That's what Obama calls him. Jacob Tapper has got the Carla Bruni story? We'll see how long that lasts. Now, why? I mean Moochelle Obama coulda lied to Carla Bruni, "Oh, it's such an honor." No, she said, "It's hell. I hate it."
So we did a little research. The UK Sunday Times, June 5th, 2009: "Barack and Michelle Obama Decline Dinner With the Sarkozys -- The Obamas turn up in Paris this evening, but have declined a dinner invitation from the couple next door: the Sarkozys. President Obama's reluctance to spend more than minimum time with the French leader on his visit for the D-Day anniversary has come as an embarrassment to the Elysee Palace. America's First Family will not be dining with President Sarkozy and his wife, Carla Bruni, even though they are staying at the residence of the US Ambassador, yards from the Elysee apartments where the Sarkozys spend their weekends. Mr. Sarkozy's staff were trying yesterday to arrange another private moment between the couples. Mr. Obama is due to fly back to Washington tomorrow night or on Sunday. Mr. Sarkozy's dream date would be dinner somewhere spectacular such as the Jules Verne, an Alain Ducasse restaurant on the Eiffel Tower. The Obamas were reported on French celebrity websites to be planning a meal there."
So Sarkozy, the president of France, says to the president of the United States, "Hey, we'd like to take you to dinner." And the president of the United States, "Ah, sorry, not going to be here long enough." So maybe Carla Bruni, maybe the Sarkozys, this is how they get even. Now, Jacob Tapper: White House is denying the story. "A spokeswoman for First Lady Obama, Catherine McCormick-Lelyveld, tells ABC News 'the First Lady never said that.'" Well, now we have a dilemma. Who do we believe? Do we believe Sarkozy's wife, Carla Bruni, who once dated Mick Jagger and who fell in love with Sarkozy -- who's about five feet shorter than she is -- while on a tour of the pyramids in Egypt. Or do we believe Moochelle Obama via her spokeswoman, Catherine McCormick-Lelyveld, through Jacob Tapper at ABC News that she never said it? Who do we believe here?
I mean I look at Carla Bruni, to me she's got an honest face, all outward appearances. Yeah, I'm tempted here to go with the French babe. I mean you're really tempted here to go with the French babe because we know that the Obamas are liberals, and we know that liberals lie. And, see, the problem with this is that it's believable. This is the problem that Catherine McCormick-Lelyveld has as the spokeswoman for Moochelle Obama, and that is that what Carla Bruni said is believable. "It's hell. I hate the job." Anyway, so the fact that only Jacob Tapper at ABC News is covering this tells me how big this is.
RUSH: Tony in College Station, Texas. Great to have you on the program, sir. Hi.
CALLER: Rush, dittos to the highness. It is great to talk to you. If living in the White House is hell, I am done with church, I can tell you right now. But I can see what her point is, and it's because she's a accountable for what she's saying now and that really kind of ties in to why I called to begin with. Earlier --
RUSH: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Hold a minute. Who are we talking about here?
CALLER: Michelle Obama.
RUSH: Okay, Michelle Obama and you can see her point that living there is hell?
CALLER: Yes, yes, because she's finally accountable for the things she's saying. And that's kinda why I called to begin with.
CALLER: You said earlier that she had struck a nerve and the thing is the media's been able to almost act like a scanner or filter --
RUSH: Oh, yeah
CALLER: -- and go, "Well, no, that's not what they mean," but they're so overboard that there is not platitudes to point to anymore. You can point the things they're saying. Nowadays when you argue with the liberals, you don't have to go through stuff. You can point. You can point to the street corner, you can point to the paper, you can point to anything and prove them wrong pretty quickly. It's almost gotten to the point that I think they ought to like find people with Obama stickers and revoke their license right there because they're not responsible enough to drive. I don't know. It's pretty sad.
RUSH: You may, in all of that, have a point. There may be a diamond in all that. 'Cause essentially here what Tony said was, one of the reasons Moochelle might not like it is she's accountable. They've never had to be accountable before. They've had non-show-up jobs, no-show jobs. You might even say... Folks, this guy is lighting bulbs all across my brain. Not only could it be that they don't like that there's accountability and people actually listen to what they say and react to it and sometimes criticize it, but they also have to... WORK! It could well be that this is the first time in their lives they've had to...WORK!! A no-show job's a no-show job. You get three hundred twenty-five grand for having your name on the masthead of a hospital. Law professor, University of Chicago teaching Alinsky tactics? Work? Having somebody at Harvard turn your C into an A and put you on the Law Review? Work? Yeah! Accountability and work. They just didn't think it would be this hard. Shazam! He may have a point.
RUSH: Oh! Guess what? Now, Jacob Tapper said that the First Lady's spokesman denied that the first lady said that the job of First Lady is "hell," and now Carla Bruni's book is denying that it said it. Well, the book is not out yet but they're denying that the book says this. So now both sides are denying the report that the First Lady said the job of First Lady is hell and she hates it. This reminds me of the time one of these Clinton guys was called up to testify about something, and it... (interruption) Craig Livingstone? Craig, No, he had lied to his diary. Remember... That was Josh Steiner. Yeah, some Clintonite had lied to his diary.
And Charles Barkley was misquoted in his autobiography, and now Carla Bruni's book is lying. Carla Bruni's book does not say that Moochelle Obama said the job of First Lady is hell.
