RUSH: I don't know if you've seen this or not. I don't know how you coulda missed it if you were paying any attention, but from the UK Daily Mail Online: "Drinking water does not ease dehydration." This from the European Union. The European Union has ruled, I'm not making this up, that anybody who says that drinking water will ease dehydration can face two years in prison if they disagree with this. Now, look, you ought to see my staff on the other side of the glass window. They are laughing themselves silly. It sounds totally ridiculous. This is beyond stupid. It's almost beyond description stupid.
"The decision," that water does not ease dehydration "after three years of discussions -- results from an attempt by two German academics to test EU advertising rules which set down when companies can claim their products reduce the risk of disease.
The academics asked for a ruling on a convoluted statement which, in short, claimed that water could reduce dehydration. Dehydration is defined as a shortage of water in the body -- but the European Food Standards Authority decided the statement could not be allowed.
"The ruling, announced after a conference of 21 EU-appointed scientists in Parma and which means that bottled water companies cannot claim their product stops people’s bodies drying out, was given final approval this week by European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. Yesterday, Tory MEP Roger Helmer said: 'This is stupidity writ large. The euro is burning, the EU is falling apart and yet here they are worrying about the obvious qualities of water. If ever there were an episode which demonstrates the folly of the great European project, then this is it.' Under British law, advertisers who make health claims that breach EU law can be prosecuted and face two years in jail. The decision was being hailed as the daftest Brussels edict since the EU sent down laws on how bendy bananas should be."
Now, folks, it's a perfect example here of what -- I'm just gonna tell you -- this is not only big government bureaucracy seeking for a reason to exist, these people are liberals. Now, I've maintained throughout my star-studded career that understanding what's happening to you, to us, what's happening in the world of politics is as simple as having the courage to understand and admit to yourselves daily what liberalism is and who liberals are. Once you do that, once you are able to comfortably and with ease and without guilt do that, everything else falls into place. It's fascinating for me to make a friend, somebody six, seven years ago who wasn't particularly political, but then having gotten to know me becomes more so.
Now, this person six years ago -- and more than one -- believed most of what the mainstream media says. This person being apolitical, the mainstream media has credibility, particularly if they're reporting what scientists say. You don't question it. Just happens. Then after five or six, seven years being exposed to me, these people start to see evidence of media bias, and it really starts to tick them off. But they never saw it on their own. They never realized it on their own. Then when I lower the hammer, say, "This is what liberalism is," I can see a little resistance. Because they think they are liberals. Certainly not conservative. A little resistance to it.
But then as time goes on and things become much more obvious and explanations are sought for what is obvious and the answer, "Well, that's just who liberals are, that's just at what liberalism is, media bias equals liberalism." Yeah, there's right-wing media bias, too, but that would be conservative media bias, and the problem is that people on the right don't deny it. They don't deny that they're conservatives. They don't deny that this is the belief system, the principles, the core beliefs that animate them. They're proud to say we're conservative. The people on the left deny it, claim they're objective, claim they're middle of the road, claim that they don't have any opinion, just honest, fair, and all this.
Now, I'm telling you, when you have a bunch of people who study for three years and conclude that water does not solve dehydration, and then prevent water companies from advertising that water promotes a healthy hydrated lifestyle, I'm sorry. These are liberals. They're insane, they're stupid, they're crazy, whatever else you want to say, but it is important and it matters to understand and accept the ideology that makes these people do and believe this kind of absolutely insane thing. And see, once you understand, once you come to grips and accept that liberalism permits this kind of corruption and bastardization of basic common sense in science, then imagine what else it's doing in other areas of life: culture, politics, sports, you name it, wherever liberalism is dominant you have perversion, you have corruption, you have destruction.
RUSH: Don't pooh-pooh it. The people who tell you that water does not solve dehydration are liberals, and they believe that and say that and proselytize that for an ideological reason. It is ideological that they say water does not solve dehydration.
RUSH: I'm not making it up, folks. Three years of study with 21 academics (meaning 21 professors at universities) and the conclusion is that water does not solve dehydration. Now, I was asked if they specified what does ease dehydration. No. But see, this isn't the point. This is an attack on an industry. It's an attack on the bottled water industry. It's the only way that these leftists can get at them is to prevent them from advertising. What they're accused of doing is violating advertising law by making false claims. So what happened is the leftists in the European Union who don't like capitalism and who do not want private sources of water available, looking to put these people out of business, deny them the opportunity to advertise. It's not that they think water doesn't solve dehydration. It's that they're trying to put a private sector entity out of business.
So they concoct a bunch of lies and phony advertising rules, and they get some academics to go along with it. Now, folks, this is who liberals are. These are the same people -- and this is the same technique -- that is used to promote manmade global warming. Same people, same thing. I not trying to get people to pooh-pooh this. I want people to take this very seriously. This is who liberals are. The world would be such a better place if liberals -- if their power -- represented their genuine minority status in this country, because they're truly a minority in this country. If their power was commensurate with their numbers we wouldn't be in any trouble at all, or not nearly the trouble we're in, particularly economically. So this is -- right here in a nutshell -- what I've been trying to inform and educate people about for 23 years: What liberalism is, how it operates, who they are, what they will do, the lengths to which they will go. "Water does not solve dehydration" as a means of attacking a private industry, to prevent them from advertising, in the European Union.
RUSH: Let's stay in the UK. From water does not solve dehydration to this: "British National Health Service Introduces £1,500 Talking Plate Which Warns Fat Families About Their Eating Habits -- Doctors have a new weapon in the battle to beat obesity -- a talking plate that tells people not to bolt their food. The Mandometer monitors the amount of food leaving the plate and tells users who gobble: 'Please eat more slowly.' Now the £1,500 Swedish device is to be used in an NHS initiative to help hundreds of obese families lose weight." Monitoring for food guzzlers. I kid you not.
So if the British government judges that you or somebody in your family is obese, you must go out and get a £1,500 plate that measures how fast food is disappearing from the surface of the plate. The plate talks to you. And this will solve obesity. And this, again, while uproariously funny and ridiculous and stupid and all that, is nevertheless considered brilliant and compassionate and caring by the British left. It's nothing of the sort. It is nothing more than intimidating control, authoritative intimidating control. And it's these kinds of things that are being voted out of power every chance people have in the European Union.
