RUSH: So here we are, it's Cyber Monday. How time flies. Cyber Monday. It seems like it was just Black Friday a couple days ago. Then it was small business Saturday. And now here it is Cyber Monday. And tomorrow, do you know tomorrow's Green Tuesday? Tomorrow is Green Tuesday. Whatever the heck that is. Notice how all this consumerism is being celebrated by the very people who ripped it to shreds when it was going on under any Republican president, Ernest Hollings, "Too much consuming going on out there."
Anyway, there are some contradictions. It's a classic mixed message. The Obama campaign has sent its Occupy goons out to attack Walmart stores all across the fruited plain. There are 38,000 Walmart stores. Seven of them were attacked, and it's considered major news. Seven Walmart stores were attacked out of 38,000, and this is somehow major news. The stores that were attacked by Occupy people were in San Diego, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Nashville, Seattle, Atlanta, and even a place called Del City, Oklahoma. Now, the Obama regime thinks that it's obviously more important to help their union pals than it is to help the economy. But why do they just go after Walmart? Target's nonunion, too. Oh, Michelle pretends to shop at Target, at least for the AP photographers. Remember that? She shows up at Target and miraculously there was an AP photog there. That's why Target is off the hook.
Now, in San Diego, these goons, the Occupy goons, filled up 75 shopping carts with merchandise, some of it probably perishable food, then they read in unison from a script no doubt provided by the union about how mean Walmart is to the working man, and then they left. And they left all 75 carts for the Walmart employees to reshelve all the merchandise. Now, who knows how many people are gonna get sick from refrozen food and perishables. Walmart probably has to throw that stuff out and so forth. So this is the kind of people that we are up against, the Occupy monument.
RUSH: This next story fascinates me. "China to Cancel College Majors That Don’t Pay." It's from the Wall Street Journal. "Much like the U.S., China is aiming to address a problematic demographic that has recently emerged: a generation of jobless graduates. China’s solution to that problem, however, has some in the country scratching their heads. China’s Ministry of Education announced this week plans to phase out majors producing unemployable graduates, according to state-run media Xinhua. The government will soon start evaluating college majors by their employment rates, downsizing or cutting those studies in which the employment rate for graduates falls below 60% for two consecutive years.
"The move is meant to solve a problem that has surfaced as the number of China’s university educated have jumped to 8,930 people per every 100,000 in the year 2010, up nearly 150% from 2000, according to China’s 2010 Census. The surge of college grads, while an accomplishment for the country, has contributed to an overflow of workers whose skill-sets don’t match with the needs of the export-led, manufacturing-based economy. Yet the government’s decision to curb majors is facing resistance." So what? It's China, you shoot 'em. "Many university professors in China are unhappy with the Ministry of Education’s move, as it will likely shrink the talent pool," necessary of professors to teach these worthless subjects.
"An op-ed in the Beijing News criticizes the approach for a different reason, saying that it will only spur false reporting of employment rates from schools that are looking for greater autonomy to produce more diversified, higher qualified students. Official data already shows that the country’s educated jobless, referred to as the 'ant tribe,' appear to be decreasing. In 2010, 72% of recent graduates found work, up from 68% in 2009. ... Education has become a heated topic in China, as the country looks to propel the rise of its own companies and its own technologies. To succeed in that quest, the government has said, the country must produce more innovators." Tough thing to do in communism.
"Tight restrictions over education are seen as the reason that creativity in China has been stifled and as the reason that so many have chosen to flee overseas for their studies." Yeah, duh. It's a communist country! Not for the iPhone. "Chinese have questioned whether someone like Apple founder Steve Jobs could ever emerge from an education system that seeks to push down students who stand out from the crowd." All right, now, what is this? The ChiComs have questioned whether somebody like Steve Jobs could ever emerge from an education system that seeks to push down students who stand out from the crowd? Oh, Jobs didn't go to college. You know what's apparent here? It looks to me like people are trying to make Steve Jobs the symbol for all that's wrong in going to college. And I don't think Jobs is it, I think I am. But you can roll the dice on that.
Anyway, the bottom line here is, the ChiComs have just decided that there are a whole bunch of worthless college majors and that they're not gonna deal with these people. If you're the ChiComs, do you blame them? Who do you think Occupy Wall Street is? In part it's a bunch of people who have meaningless degrees who expected to be paid big amounts of money for doing nothing once they got out of school just because they got out of school. The ChiComs don't want to deal with Occupy protests. How did that go at Tiananmen Square? They're still living that down. (interruption) Oh, come on, what do you mean, how come the ChiComs can implement this kind of thing and we can't? Who's to say we can't? Tom Friedman loves the Chinese. Obama loves the Chinese. Who's to say we can't?
Snerdley, you're wondering how it is the ChiComs can just automatically decree this? It's a communist country, for crying out loud. Whatever the Politburo says is gonna be is gonna be. If the Politburo looks out there and they see too many of their students with worthless degrees they're just gonna ban the degrees, they're gonna ban education in that field. They don't want unemployed people. We do. (laughing) That's what the whole New York Times story today is. The Democrat Party wants more unemployed people. The Democrat Party is building their future on the unemployed, and not just the unemployed, the unemployable. That's who the Democrat Party is building its future.
RUSH: "An eight-year-old elementary student that weighs more than 200 pounds has been taken away from his family and placed into foster care --" they got pictures of Michelle Obama on the walls at this place "-- after county social workers said his mother wasn't doing enough to control his weight." Is that reason enough for the government to take your kid?
RUSH: Only in the place of the butterfly ballot could this next story happen. Dangerously close to Port St. Lucie, Florida. "A South Florida trio is facing up to two decades in prison after they were allegedly involved in a $1 million toilet paper scam in Palm Beach County. Federal prosecutors said the three conned elderly customers into buying unnecessary septic products, in some cases more than 70 years worth of toilet paper, CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald reported.
"According to the Herald, the three worked for FBK Products of West Palm Beach. They told more than a dozen of their victims that they needed the company’s special toilet paper to avoid ruining their septic tanks. They told their victims that the federal government changed regulations on toilet paper, the Herald reported. The federal government, though, does not regulate septic tank products." Yet. My God, something the federal government doesn't regulate, folks. Septic tank products.
"In phone pitches, salespeople claimed the company was affiliated with the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. One product, the $199 Septic Remedy treatment, would eliminate the need to have their tanks pumped, the company claimed. Victims were also told that they needed special soap, detergent and toilet paper or their septic tanks would not pass federal inspection, the Herald reported. But the EPA does not regulate septic tank products, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Three of the suspects, Christopher Lincoln, Mary Moore and Joseph Nouerand, this week pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiring to commit wire fraud."
Now, think about this. You and two of your buddies want to get rich quick and you devise a scheme to defraud seasoned citizens. Okay, how many of you would think, "I'll tell you what, let's convince 'em they have to buy 70 years' worth of toilet paper." Of all things that you think you could panic senior citizens on, you decide on toilet paper. (laughing) (interruption) Well, wait a second. You say it worked, but the story here is these people got caught. The point is how did it work? They told these seasoned citizens that what they were doing wouldn't pass federal regulation, that they would be in trouble with the federal government. You know how they interpreted that. Their Social Security might be cut off; their Medicare might be cut off. That's how I'm sure they interpreted this.
You tell people that what they're doing is a violation of federal regulations or law and that the feds are gonna come down on 'em, and I guarantee you, these people are not gonna take the chance that this is a hoax. The fear of the federal government is so powerful that these three people convinced a bunch of unsuspecting seasoned citizens to buy 70 years' worth of toilet paper. Stop and think of this. Seventy years of a special toilet paper good enough for certain septic tanks. (interruption) Well, I know, I mean you got seasoned citizens. There's no reason somebody 70 years old should buy 70 years' worth of toilet paper so that will end up in the will. "I want to leave little Johnny 20 years of the toilet paper that I bought." (laughing) I'm telling people about it, "Where in the hell does this happen?" Where else but where the butterfly ballot succeeded, Palm Beach County. Port St. Lucie's not in Palm Beach County, but is dangerously close. There could be some runoff.
RUSH: By the way, for you Occupy people, this news ought to make you happy. It's from Reuters: "Annual compensation for employees at big Wall Street firms could fall 27-30 percent from a year earlier to the lowest level since the 2008 financial crisis, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a compensation study conducted by the Options Group. Bonuses, which constitute a substantial part of many finance workers' pay, are on track to decline 35-40 percent, on average."
So annual compensation could fall 30% at Wall Street firms. Hey, let's throw a party. Isn't that what makes you leftists happy? It's gonna be tough on the New York City restaurant scene, by the way. New York City restaurants, any time there is bad news on Wall Street, Wall Street employees, New York City restaurants take it on the chin, too. Well, it's the old travel entertainment budgets, the first things to go and those expenditures.
RUSH: There was news over the holiday weekend, ladies and gentlemen, in the UK press. "Climategate scientists DID collude with government officials to hide research that didn’t fit their apocalyptic global warming." This is the second time now that e-mails have been released from the Hadley Climate Center, University of East Anglia, where we know that the information was doctored, altered, and made up to fit an agenda.
"Five thousand leaked e-mails reveal that scientists deleted evidence that cast doubt on their claims that climate change was manmade." They had evidence they were wrong; they through it away. They were colluding with government. This is nothing more than a hoax. It is a fraud. It is indoctrination of children. It is liberalism. What is there to compromise with?
Investors.com picks up on the story. "The left's proposed solutions for the world's ills are based on the idea that carbon dioxide is a climate-heating poison that must be scrubbed from the global economy at all cost. Yet another study shows this is foolish. The study in the journal Science found that global temperatures appear to be far less sensitive to the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere than originally estimated." Do you realize the fundamental claim has now been debunked? The fundamental claim that CO2 in the atmosphere is causing warming has been cast aside. There's nothing left to the global warming argument but the continued fraud, lying, and hoax that it is.
As Investors.com says, "This a bombshell -- another in a long line of revelations showing the scientific fraud at the heart of the anti-global warming movement. The study's findings are simple and devastating. 'This implies that the effect of CO2 on climate is less than previously thought,' said Oregon State University's Andreas Schmittner, the study's main author." Doesn't it really stand to reason, it's what we exhale, for crying out loud. We ought to be extinct. The whole thing has been nothing but a giant lie from the get-go and I have known it from the get-go because I know liberals. You know, it's frustrating. It really is frustrating. If everybody could just come to grips with who liberals are, what they do, how they operate, it would be over. But somehow they've cornered the market on the fact they are compassionate. They've cornered the market on appealing to people with emotion, which is a much easier link to establish than thought, and it's really no more complicated than that.
