Glenn Reynolds Makes Great Point on Contraception Mandate
RUSH: I got a note here from Glenn Reynolds. This is a good point, this contraception business, about how the contraception rule is like making mosques sell bacon. Follow this. "Note how the narrative in the press has shifted. The Obama regime says that churches who oppose contraception still have to pay for it. Then when people object, the talk shifts from who pays for contraception to whether somebody wants to ban it." Which is exactly what's happened. Obama proposes that the Catholic Church and its organizations pay for contraception, abortion services. Then they object, "Oh, okay, we'll make the insurance companies pay for it," and then from there they start talking about somebody suggesting it be banned, which nobody did.
Nobody is talking about banning contraception. It's been totally made up, by design. It would be the same thing as passing a law requiring mosques to sell bacon. And then when they objected, responding by saying, "What's wrong with bacon? You're trying to ban bacon." No. No. It's a good sleight of hand. It's an interesting sleight of hand that is happening. So Obama wrote that back in 2006, and it doesn't mean he's not going to monitor what we eat. It just means he knows we're not gonna like it. Plain as day. "Not many Americans would feel comfortable with the government monitoring what we eat, no matter how many deaths and how much of our medical spending may be due to rising rates of obesity." But because of the rising rates of obesity and because of how much of our medical spending is being spent on that stuff, we're gonna have to monitor what people eat. He doesn't say it, but the implication is clear.
Desperate Youth Flee Bamster
RUSH: This from Paul Bedard. This is in the Washington Examiner. "America's youth vote, which turned out in record numbers in 2008 and gave a historically high percentage of their support to President Obama, has soured on him because they are having a hard time finding work and, as a result, are putting off major decisions like getting married and starting a family. Obama, who won 66 percent of the 24 million voters age 18-29 in 2008, has seen that support slashed. And in a new poll from Generation Opportunity, a nonprofit that seeks to engage younger voters, only 31 percent approve of Obama’s handling" of the economy.
The youth. And that's who the Democrats claim they own. Folks, they were down with female numbers. This contraception business, make no mistake what's going on. This guy is in the tank. They are having to go back to old pages in the playbook from years ago to try to revive this presidency, and don't doubt me on that.
$75K Grants to Recruit Food Stamp Recipients
RUSH: This is from Big Government, Andrew Breitbart's series of websites, headline: "Obama Administration Offers $75,000 Grants to Sign Up More Food Stamp Recipients -- Over the last three years, the number of Americans on food stamps has skyrocketed by two-thirds and stands at a record-high 46 million citizens, or one out of every seven people in the United States. Despite the historic rise in food stamp use, however, the Obama Administration believes not enough people are receiving food stamps who should be and is offering $75,000 grants to groups who devise 'effective strategies' to 'increase program participation' among those who have yet to sign up.
"The US Department of Agriculture’s website singles out Hispanics and elderly Americans as groups who often fail to enroll in the food stamp program (officially known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP) and says that one of the contributing factors that must be overcome to get more people to sign up for SNAP benefits is individual 'pride.'" Must find a way past the stigma. So with debt piling up, with the financial collapse of the United States clearly visible on the road ahead, massive deficit spending, no end in sight to it, a couple of days after submitting a campaign document called a budget, we now learn -- the USDA, look, they're not hiding this once again. This is right there at the USDA website. They're offering people like you $75,000 if you can give them a good idea on how to recruit even more people to the food stamp program.
Now, how many of you believe that in years past the objective of a responsible government would be to eliminate as many people as possible, to get 'em off the program because that would mean an improvement in their lives? Now we have an administration, and this is not new, by the way, the food stamp program always tries to recruit more members to make sure its budget doesn't get cut, but now what is new, here we have the regime openly paying money to average citizens to come up with strategies, effective strategies that will increase the number of people. And one of the biggest obstacles is the stigma. We must find a way to get people to not feel guilty about taking these benefits. If you can come up with that they'll give you $75,000. We've gone from welfare queens to food stamp dudes. I mean this is outrageous. We've got Barack Obama in office just over three years, his budgets are fiscal disasters year after year after year, you doubt that it's on purpose? Seventy-five thousand dollar grants to sign up more food stamp recipients?
