RUSH: This is Orville in Columbus, Ohio. Great to have you on the program, sir. Hello.

CALLER: Hey, there, Rush. Great to talk to you.

RUSH: Thank you very much, sir.

CALLER: I didn’t think this would ever happen, but everything’s possible. I just called to really encourage you, to let you know how you influence people. I’m almost 76 — I’ll be 76 at the end of the month — and I suppose I was probably 60 years old the first time I heard you. Some of the fellows where I worked were telling me about a guy on the radio that had “a very large mouth and a very large ego.”

RUSH: Oh, yeah! Can’t have one without the other.

CALLER: That’s exactly right. Basically I had to force myself a couple times to hear you and I thought, “Well, I want to hear a little more,” and after I listened for about… Well, it didn’t take me real long, probably a couple months. And I think I was, you might say, a “Senior Rush Baby.” I had been registered with our opposition party all my life, and since then I’ve changed my politics. I’ve become somewhat of an armchair activist whenever I can.

RUSH: Well, welcome home.

CALLER: (chuckles) That’s exactly right. I like to send out my e-mails to my senators and bug ’em to death, and I’ve got a bunch of grandkids and kids that are on our side, too. I have one grandson in particular that just told me yesterday, he says, “That guy’s my favorite,” talkin’ about you. I’m proud of him, and I’m just proud to be able to say that I am for our Constitution. I signed up for the Constitution class.

RUSH: At Hillsdale?

CALLER: Yep.

RUSH: Well. Good for you.

CALLER: I like my Imprimis. I’m just a full-fledged conservative now.

RUSH: Well, don’t you enjoy life a little bit more?

CALLER: Oh, I enjoy life to the max!

RUSH: You’re not angry all the time. You’re not looking to be offended all the time. You’re not outraged all the time. You have to be enjoying yourself a little bit more.

CALLER: That’s exactly it. I got a good outlook. You know, things do look pretty dismal, but I think there’s brighter days ahead, and we just have to hang in there. I hope that a lot of the people wise up — even those on the other side, you know — and realize the damage that’s been done in the last three-and-a-half years.

RUSH: No, let me tell you something. This is a hard, cold reality that you’re gonna have to face. There may be some of those, but not very many. The hardcore people that you’re talking about who represent our opposition believe fully, 100% what Obama’s doing. There has been a seismic shift on that side of the aisle of the people of this country. It’s taken a while, but it’s the result of decades of public education being corrupted and higher education curricula. This is how these people have been educated. It is how they have been informed. They are all-in for this. They are totally wrong about the loveliness that awaits them — the peace, the happiness, the utopia that awaits them — because there isn’t one. But that’s what they’re in it for.

They’re all signed up.

Some of them are gonna see the light. The real challenge here is to stop the growth on that side of the aisle in terms of political belief. Because they’re rooted. That’s why they have to be defeated. Not accommodated. Not appeased. Not compromised with. There’s nothing there to compromise with. They have to be defeated. This is why so many people on our side are doubtful that the people in our upper echelon (the upper echelon of the Republican Party) really understand the threat the country faces. They wonder if they signed up for that. That’s one of the big problems. The lack of confidence on our side is purely based on no evidence that the leaders on our side of anything see it that way. Time will tell. But we’re glad to have you, and it’s great to hear from you. I’m glad you took the time, Orville.
