Driving While Fat: Obese Drivers Get in More Accidents
RUSH: I want to get this in before we have to move on. There's a new study out there: "CBS Seattle -- A new study claims that obesity could not only increase a driver’s risk of being in a car accident, but also result in more severe injuries." Obese drivers. I don't know how. Obese drivers have more accidents and then more people get injured in those accidents when the driver is fat, when the driver is obese. It came down from Seattle. Well, it's "Canadian scientists at the University of Laval and published in the Journal of Transportation Safety & Security."
And I guess, what? They can't turn the steering wheel fast enough? Oh, and the fat drivers. Do you think maybe putting them in bigger cars might help? Is it that fat drivers are driving around these little golf carts now that might be the problem? They just don't fit in them? Do you think fat drivers have a problem getting into an SUV? This study, by the way... This study claims that fat people aren't just hurting themselves, they're now running over people because they can't stay awake. Fat people are driving around, fall asleep because they're fat, and they run over people.
Obama: I'm Not the President of Black America
RUSH: The Politico has the quote. Right here it is. Barack Obama, quote: "I'm not the president of black America." Black America is gonna be very shocked to hear that, because they think that he is. This was an interview, Black Enterprise magazine. You ever heard of Black Enterprise? Question: "How do you respond to criticism that your administration hasn’t done enough to support black businesses?"
Obama: "My general view has been consistent throughout, which is that I want all businesses to succeed. I want all Americans to have opportunity. I’m not the president of black America. I’m the president of the United States of America."
Now, all of that is technically true, but I guarantee you a lot of black Americans are gonna be shocked when they hear that. That's why they voted for him. By the way, this is a pack of lies, too. He doesn't want all businesses to succeed. He doesn't want all Americans to have opportunity. It's just the exact opposite.
D'Souza on Obama
RUSH: Fascinating interview yesterday with Dinesh D'Souza. He's got another book coming out, plus this movie. And he says, to understand Obama you have to look at him globally, not as an American. It's like Romney says, Obama's experience doesn't comport with the American experience. Obama's got no linkage to the founding of this country. Obama fashions himself as a global guy looking at America as no different than any other nation and judging it as no different, and he sees an America that's been very unfair. Everything I've said, it's just that the perspective is that Obama is a global guy, not an American guy, from Dinesh D'Souza.
Still Not Jazzed for NFL
RUSH: I said the other day -- Snerdley was shocked -- I wasn't all that jazzed about the football season. There was a game last Sunday night, the Hall of Fame game, the Saints and the Cardinals. I turned it on out of habit. I watched it. I got the Steelers and the Eagles tomorrow night. I don't care. It's not just that it's preseason and the preseason doesn't matter. It's just normally this time of year my attitude shifts ever so slightly. It's the arrival of football season, and with it the seasonal change, and then you get the holidays.
It's all of that stuff that I normally get a little jazzed about, some times more so than others. I'm not feeling it this year. There's a bunch of reasons why. The way football is talked about and reported now is forever different, and the genie's out of the bottle. It's not gonna ever go back to being what it was now. For example... Can I just give you an example? At Oakland Raiders practice yesterday, there was a helmet-to-helmet hit. They called an ambulance; they took a player to the hospital.
That was the big news. Helmet-to-helmet hit. "Was there a concussion? Is this guy gonna walk again?" It turned out everything was fine. But that's first time I can recall, in I don't know how many years, there being a news story about an ambulance being called to practice because of a helmet-to-helmet hit. Anyway, it's just gonna be different. The commentary during the games is gonna be different. Just like now when it's a hundred degrees in July, people think about global warming.
After every hard hit in a football game, everybody's gonna stop now and say, "Oh, gee. We shouldn't be playing this game, anymore." The genie's out of the bottle, as I say. There's another reason, though, and that is I'm consumed with other priorities.
Democrats Need More Dependency
RUSH: From the Washington Times, immigrants lag behind native born Americans on most measures of economic well-being, even those who have been in the US the longest. This according to a -- a report from the Center for Immigration Studies. And they argue that full assimilation is a more complex task than overcoming language or cultural differences. The study, which covers all immigrants, legal and illegal and their US-born children younger than 18, found that immigrants tend to make economic progress by most measures the longer they live in the US, but they lag well behind native born Americans in factors like poverty, health insurance coverage, and ho -- why -- why would you need a survey for this? All you need to know is that the Democrat Party is sponsoring this. Once you know that, you know everything. Once you know that immigrants are lagging behind everybody, that's exactly what the Democrat Party needs, a continuing -- continually replenished and growing, permanent underclass.
Papa John's CEO: Obamacare Raises Price of Pie
RUSH: John Schnatter, CEO of Papa John's Pizza, told shareholders in a recent quarterly conference call, earnings call, that Obamacare's "changes -- set to go into effect in 2014 -- will result in higher costs for the company -- which they [are going to] to pass onto consumers." In other words, Schnatter went out there and said Obamacare's gonna raise pizza prices. He's a Romney guy. He doesn't make any bones about it. He's even a donor. He's a fundraiser, too. So get everything out on the table on that.
But what a smart way to say it: Your pizza is gonna get more expensive.
Now, that might matter to people. That might actually matter. "You know, pizza is gonna get more expensive because of Obamacare." You might think, "Oh, gosh. That's awful simplistic." Folks, it might actually work. That actually might reach the people who need to be reached. It's like telling 'em, "You know what? Your Netflix bill is gonna go up 20% because of Obamacare."
Oh! You want to cause a panic? And next you tell 'em, "They're gonna start charging you to watch E! Entertainment to pay for Obamacare." And then you go out, and then you tell 'em, "Movie tickets are gonna go up by five bucks because of Obamacare." One of the ways to get the pop culture people is tell them how Obamacare is gonna make all of the things they love more expensive and place them more out of reach.
NBA Fundraiser for Obama
RUSH: David Stern, the commissioner of the NBA, is doing a fund-raiser for Obama? The only thing I saw in the story was they're selling that Michael Jordan's gonna be there. You could come in and if you donate enough money you might be able to shoot some hoops with the NBA guys. That kind of surprised me, in a way. Jordan stayed away from this stuff because, you know, Republicans buy Nikes, too, ostensibly. But I didn't know the commissioner was gonna be part of it. No, I'm not surprised. The commissioner's a big lib. I happen to know this. It doesn't surprise me at all, whatsoever, that the NBA commissioner would be part of it. But I did not see that as part of the story.
