Open Line Friday with Mark Belling!

"Every now and then, someone comes along and tells you that no matter how bad you think things are, they're worse." -Mark Belling

Why Obama Wants to Drive Over the Fiscal Cliff

"This fiscal cliff meeting with Obama is all such total nonsense. In Barack Obama's first term, Rahm Emanuel was his chief of staff, and he said something that I think just explains everything. It explained the Chicago mentality and how Obama would govern as president. It was chilling when you heard it, but everything you've heard since then has just underlined how accurate it is. Rahm Emanuel said, 'Never let a crisis go to waste.'" -Mark Belling

"For Barack Obama, this fiscal cliff isn't a problem or a crisis. This is nothing to worry about. He sees this as an opportunity! I honestly think he's looking forward to this. This is his chance to do what he's wanted to do. I think he sees this thing as an opportunity to redistribute income, and that drives him. He's not looking for a deal. He's not looking to help the economy or avert a recession. He's got different motivations here." -Mark Belling

"While everyone else is trying to improve the American economy and avert the fiscal cliff, Obama is trying to get us to that cliff, because in his mind it's not a bad thing. The cliff is tax increases, which is what he wants. How do you make a deal with that? You can't. This is why every single proposal Obama has made to the Republicans is anathema to them. He doesn't want to give them anything that they might be able to bite on." -Mark Belling

Mallory Factor, Author of Shadowbosses

"I hope if anybody buys Shadowbosses they don't keep it. They send it to a legislator. They need to read it more than anybody else." -Mallory Factor

"The clout unions have in the Democrat part is because of their money, and that's where compulsory dues become the issue. That's the only way to turn this around." -Mark Belling

"Shadowbosses reads like an organized crime novel, but it's actually a true story of how labor unions are infiltrating our government and corrupting our political process. This compelling and insightful book exposes how unions have organized federal, state, and local government employees without their consent, and how government employee unions are now a threat to our workers' freedoms, our free and fair elections, and even our American way of life."

"The clout that government unions have in the Democrat Party is clearly because they have all the money. Therefore, it seems to me that the only way you can address that clout is to go after the money. That's where compulsory dues membership become a big thing, and this is the thing that we saw fought out in my own state of Wisconsin." -Mark Belling

"We have e-mails to union members where they say, 'We need you to volunteer -- and if you volunteer, we'll pay you $50, lunch, and a free T-shirt.' One even offered the people a free turkey." -Mallory Factor

"Unions in the '30s, we can argue, served a very important reason. And you didn't have to join a union to get a job. What happened is, union membership in the private sector has been in huge decline. Only about 6% of workers are members of unions in the private sector. But 41% of government workers today are now members of a union, a shocking number." -Mallory Factor

Rest in Peace, General Schwarzkopf

"General Schwarzkopf's passing is obviously a sad moment, but it's also an opportunity for us to reflect on what made him great. Rather than simply mourn his death, I think we need to look back on what a great contribution he really did make." -Mark Belling

"It doesn’t take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle." -Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf
