The Left Never Sleeps: Greedy Corporate World Hurts Girls
RUSH: From the UK Telegraph: "Girls Need More Protection from 'Greedy Corporate World' -- Rising numbers of girls are suffering mental health problems after coming under 'sustained assault' from diet advertisements, alcohol marketing, fashion pressures and access to pornography," according to a leading psychologist. So what do we have here? A rising number of girls suffering mental health problems because of a sustained assault from diet advertisements, alcohol marketing, fashion pressures, and access to pornography.
If this stuff affects girls so much, then wouldn't similar things, like playing violent video games, watching violent TV and movies, wouldn't they affect boys negatively? I mean, I'm just asking. If this stuff can affect little girls, then doesn't similar stuff affect little boys? "A 'greedy corporate world' increasingly sees girls -- particularly those in the pre-teen group -- as soft targets to be exploited, it is claimed. Steve Biddulph said girls were being forced to grow up too quickly and warned that parents had failed to protect them from external pressures."
So here's just another assault on corporate America, another assault on capitalism. Why, look what's happening. All of these evil corporate people are polluting and perverting our young girls. The left never sleeps.
And now we've got a bunch of people on the left upset at corporate America focusing on and targeting young girls for exploitation, making them nervous, sustained assault, diet advertisements, alcohol marketing, fashion pressures, access to pornography, makes them feel inadequate, makes them feel they've gotta engage in all these cool, hip things to be cool and hip. It's creating mental health problems with girls.
Now, there's nothing said about the effect on boys but I would think that it has to be there. The article here is said to include a call for restricting access to television, banning gadgets from little girls bedrooms. And the government in charge of organizing more family time with grandparents and other relatives. That's the fix, and the government must do these things. Just like there must be a commission, federal commission, guidelines for when an NFL player must be taken out of the game. It has to happen. Because left to the people that play, coach and manage the game, they don't care about the players. They'll exploit 'em and use 'em up, ruin their lives, and just put the next one in. Congress, federal government needs to be involved. If the Republicans raid taxes a year earlier, why, we'd be even further down the road to economic health. So there's a lot happening.
Downton Abbey Surprises
RUSH: How many of you all watch Downton Abbey on PBS? Do you watch it, Dawn? HR, do you watch Downton Abbey? You don't watch? I do. I have seen every episode of season three, which just premiered last night. And I'm just gonna tell you -- no, no, no. No spoilers. I'm just gonna tell you, there are two surprises. The last episode of the season, it goes along, and it's fine and dandy, and the last 90 seconds, I guarantee you, it comes outta left field and wipes you out. If you're heavily invested in the characters on the show, the last 90% seconds of the last episode, it's an hour-and-a-half. Two hours if they run commercials, which PBS I don't think does.
On the Dole and Watching the Pole
RUSH: I've got this piece that ran exclusively in the New York Post yesterday. "Welfare Recipients Take Out Cash at Strip Clubs, Liquor Stores, and X-rated Shops." A story that appeals right to low-information voters, low-political-information voters. Great story for TMZ. "Welfare recipients took out cash at bars, liquor stores, X-rated video shops, hookah parlors and even strip clubs --where they presumably spent their taxpayer money on lap dances rather than diapers, a [New York] Post investigation found.
"A database of 200 million Electronic Benefit Transfer [debit card] records from January 2011 to July 2012, obtained by The Post through a Freedom of Information request, showed welfare recipients using their EBT cards to make dozens of cash withdrawals at ATMs inside Hank's Saloon in Brooklyn; the Blue Door Video porn shop in the East Village; The Anchor, a sleek SoHo lounge; the Patriot Saloon in TriBeCa; and Drinks Galore, a liquor distributor in The Bronx. ...
"One EBT machine is stationed inside Club Eleven, an infamous Hunts Point jiggle joint known as much for its violent history as its girls in pink thongs." They got a welfare machine inside Club Eleven. Santa Claus. "'This is morally scandalous,' said Michael Tanner, a senior fellow at the Cato Institute. 'I have nothing against strip clubs, but that’s not what benefits are for. I don’t blame [recipients]. If you are poor, it’s a crummy life and you want to have a drink or see a naked woman. I blame the people who are in charge of this.'"
So it's not the welfare recipients' fault. Hell, no! If I was a welfare recipient, and I had a card, I'd go to a strip club, too.
That's what the Cato guy said.
Al-Jazeera Bought Algore
RUSH: Al Jazeera bought Algore. They didn't buy the network. Nobody can convince me that that network is worth $500 million. What Al Jazeera bought is Al Gore. He's now Al Jazeera Gore, and I want to expand on this tomorrow when I have a little bit more time.
Low-Information Teaser Story
RUSH: We didn't get to our low-information voter segment today, and it was loaded. So I'm gonna do that tomorrow, but here's just one item from our low-information voter pile. "Kyle XY..." This is breaking news from TMZ right now! Kyle XY star Matt Dallas has come out. "Kyle XY's Matt Dallas Announces He's Gay and Engaged to Musician Blue Hamilton on Twitter." "The 30-year-old actor -- who is most famous for his role in the hit ABC Family series Kyle XY --kicked off 2013 by officially coming out as a gay man and announcing that he is engaged to musician Blue Hamilton. "Starting off the year with a new fiancé, @bluehamilton. A great way to kick off 2013!" he says, and we want to wish the new couple all of the best.
