Lady from Michigan Just Wants to Say Thanks

RUSH: Back to the phones, El Rushbo, serving humanity.  This is Marcy in Chesterfield, Michigan.  Welcome.  Great to have you here.

CALLER:  Hi.  Thank you very much.  So great to talk to you.  I've been trying to call you for years.

RUSH:  Thank you.  I'm glad you made it.

CALLER:  Thank you.  The reason I called, as I told your screener, is that I just wanted to thank you for your show. I know you hear from a lot of people, but I'm so sincere. I just love your show. You get me through the day.  I'm a mail carrier, and I've been listening to you since 1986.

RUSH:  Whoa, '86?  So you had to be... Were you living in California at one time?

CALLER:  Pardon me?

RUSH:  Did you, at one time, live in California?

CALLER:  No, Michigan.

RUSH:  Michigan?

CALLER:  Yeah.

RUSH:  Okay. It was '88 if you lived in Michigan.  Who's counting?

CALLER:  Pardon me?

RUSH:  It was '88 if you lived in Michigan.

CALLER:  Okay.

RUSH:  But who's counting?  It's still a lot of years. It's coming up on 25 years next month.

CALLER:  Yeah, and that's mainly why I wanted to call you.  I'm very nervous.  I've been on hold for a while.

RUSH:  Well, you don't sound nervous at all.  You just sound in awe.

CALLER:  I am.  This is so great because this is the last day I have off. I'm going back to work tomorrow, I've been on vacation, and I've been feeling kind of down having to go back to work, I said, "I'm gonna try giving Rush a call," and I got through.

RUSH:  Really?

CALLER:  Yeah.

RUSH:  I know how you feel.  We just had a four-day weekend here. Of course I was charged -- I was ready -- to come back today because of the stuff that I knew I had to talk about.  But I can imagine how you feel, to go back to work, as opposed to me.

CALLER:  Well, you enjoy your job a little more than I enjoy mine, but it's a job and I'm happy to have it.

RUSH:  Well, I know, in this day and age.

CALLER:  Yeah, especially since I was listening to the numbers on the employment -- or unemployment, I should say.

RUSH:  Yeah, the bad thing about this is, people are gonna give thanks just for having a part-time job.

CALLER:  Yeah.

RUSH:  I mean, everybody's expectations are gonna be so lowered.

CALLER:  Yeah.

RUSH:  So you've been listening 25 years for all intents and purposes, and you're not bored yet with the show?

CALLER: No. It's just, I look forward to it.

RUSH:  That is so cool.

CALLER:  In fact I was listening to you for a few years, and I was talking about your show all the time with my husband, and now he's listening to it.  His name is Al.  I told him that I called you.

RUSH:  Well.

CALLER:  I hope he's listening now.

RUSH:  I bet he is.  I bet he is.  I know how it makes the day better and it makes the day faster, and I'm so thankful that you're out there, and I'm so thankful you still find it interesting.  I can't tell you.  I really am.  You have a good rest of the day.
