RUSH: West Palm Beach, this is Kerry, and welcome. It’s nice to have you on the program. Hello.

CALLER: Thanks, Rush. Nice to talk to you.

RUSH: You bet.

CALLER: I just wanted to share with you some good news I had on Saturday. I just took up golf a couple of weeks ago, and I played my second ever nine holes this Saturday afternoon, and I hit a hole-in-one.

RUSH: Oh, come on! That’s not fair.

CALLER: (giggles) I know.

RUSH: That isn’t fair. Do you mind telling me where you played?

CALLER: I played at the Village of Royal Palm Beach. They have a golf course there, and my husband and I went out for nine holes, and on the second hole, I used my 5-iron, and it was 142 yards. It was 142 yards and it hit the hole on the fly and it stayed in. It didn’t roll it.

RUSH: You have got to be kidding!

CALLER: (giggling)

RUSH: In your second…? Did you say second week?

CALLER: Yeah, my second time on a golf course. This is the 13th hole I’ve ever played.

RUSH: The 13th hole, second time on a golf course —

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: — and you hit a 5-iron 142 yards in the air?

CALLER: I did.

RUSH: Wow. My friend in Hawaii can’t do that.

CALLER: (giggling) It was fun.

RUSH: I’m kidding. I’m gonna have hell to pay for that.

CALLER: (giggling)

RUSH: No kidding! That has got to be… Were you able to tell it went in or did you not know ’til you went up there and looked in the hole.

CALLER: We thought it went in ’cause the noise was ungodly. It hit the pin and just went right in, and nobody could believe it. There were two guys teeing up on the next hole and they came around and said, “It went in! It’s not on the green!” We knew. There was a couple of seconds of stunned silence, though.

RUSH: Yeah, I bet they couldn’t believe it.

CALLER: (giggling)

RUSH: So. (laughs) Does this make you eager to continue playing the game?

CALLER: Absolutely! I’ve got another lesson tonight, so I can’t wait.

RUSH: Oh, wow. Well, that’s cool.

CALLER: Yeah!

RUSH: Well, I gotta tell you something. The longer you play, there are stages. If you really get into it, and you’ve time to really get into it, there are stages that you are gonna go through. There’s the addict phase or stage where you will play as often as you can, and you will take lessons and you will buy clubs and you will do all this stuff. And you will get frustrated and you will get mad and you will wonder why you’re doing it and you’ll think, “They ought to punish prisoners by making ’em play this game!”

CALLER: (giggling)

RUSH: It’s so frustrating. But you’ll end up loving it, and you’ll be watching it on TV closer than you ever have. A lot of people who have been playing their whole lives never have a hole-in-one.

CALLER: That’s what I hear. (giggles)

RUSH: Never have. Well, congratulations.

CALLER: Thank you.

RUSH: That’s absolutely great. I’m thrilled for you. That’s something. Second time on a golf course, 13th hole ever. Let me tell you something. Just for a beginner, 5-iron, 142 yards? For a beginner (and I could say woman, but that would make me sexist and I don’t want to go there because of the Republican War on Women), that’s impressive.
