RUSH: Any looting in Napa? Has anybody seen any looting in Napa? (interruption) Well, there was a big earthquake there. You got storefronts that are blown wide open. I mean, it's just made to order. Has there been any? I haven't seen any reports of looting in Napa. I mean, the lights were out. The electricity was off. Is there no social injustice there that would make people think that what's in those stores is theirs just for the taking? I mean, you could just walk in there. (interruption) What, the looters are still in Ferguson? No, no, no, that's not true because that's starting to straighten out.
RUSH: You know, more money has been raised for the cop. You know, there are legal defense funds for both the gentle giant's family -- the funeral, by the way, underway as we speak, in St. Louis, Ferguson -- and the police officer. And the police officer's legal defense fund is outpacing the gentle giant's. Not sitting well with those who are politically attached to this.
RUSH: In other earth-shattering news, it turns out that they have identified Jihadi John. Do you know who this guy is? His father, Jihadi John, the guy that beheaded James Foley, his father is a terrorist from Egypt. Who would have thought? Who would have ever guessed that Jihadi John's dad might be a terrorist as well? And here we were thinking he was just one of these straight, sophisticated, stiff upper lip British guys. Turns out terrorism runs in the family.
In fact, Jihadi John's father is being held in prison in Manhattan for embassy bombings in West Africa. Apparently the son, Jihadi John, joined up with ISIS to protest the unfairness of it all, the fact that his father's being held prisoner. Apparently rapping about it was not enough. Do you know that? Jihadi John was a rapper. (interruption) He was. He was a rapper. And rapping wasn't enough, didn't get the job done. So he had to join ISIS, make it official.
RUSH: You may have seen reports that some forensic investigators -- oh. Speaking of which, of forensic investigators, would you be surprised to learn, would it mean anything, would it have any relevance, would it bother you or is it no big deal, the New York Times was allowed to be present during the family autopsy of the gentle giant? I saw that on a -- I forget the name, I don't have it in front of me right now, a conservative website. It was a very, very long treatment of this one fact, photographer got in.
It was all about how Baden really didn't do much but show up and sign a form and that his assistant from Kansas is not even licensed. I mean, the point of the story was that this autopsy was kind of strange. The New York Times and a photographer were allowed in there. Well, I don't know if the photographer was, but a reporter was in when the autopsy was taking place.
In the diagram that was made of the body and the shots, there were no shots identified as having coming from the rear in the official sketch or diagram. But the one the family attorneys brought out and showed on television had a red dot to indicate a shot from behind in the right arm. It's a long treatment of the whole notion that even the autopsy was politicized by allowing the New York Times in and that it was conducted by somebody not even licensed. And that Baden just showed up, was paid some money to put his signature on it and to okay it, to give it credibility and so forth.
Does that, I mean, blurring of the lines? I think it kind of illustrates, doesn't it, that the news is not about the news anymore. The New York Times clearly isn't about the news. It's about advancing the agenda, spreading the word, helping to write the daily script of the soap opera.
RUSH: "Cornel West has some harsh words for President Barack Obama in a recent interview with Salon.com. The first question West answers is, 'how do you feel things have worked out since then, both with the economy and with this president?'"
Cornel West launches. He calls Obama a counterfeit.
"[T]he thing is he posed as a progressive and turned out to be counterfeit. We ended up with a Wall Street presidency, a drone presidency, a national security presidency. The torturers go free. The Wall Street executives go free. The war crimes in the Middle East, especially now in Gaza, the war criminals go free. And yet, you know, he acted as if he was both a progressive and as if he was concerned about the issues of serious injustice and inequality and it turned out that he’s just another neoliberal centrist with a smile and with a nice rhetorical flair. And that’s a very sad moment in the history of the nation because we are -- we’re an empire in decline.
"Our culture is in increasing decay. Our school systems are in deep trouble. Our political system is dysfunctional. Our leaders are more and more bought off with legalized bribery and normalized corruption in Congress and too much of our civil life. You would think that we needed somebody -- a Lincoln-like figure who could revive some democratic spirit and democratic possibility.
"That’s true. It was like, 'We finally got somebody who can help us turn the corner.' And he posed as if he was a kind of Lincoln." And then he said he's just nothing more than a "brown-faced Clinton. Another opportunist." Cornel West totally blindsided and let down.
(interruption) (laughing) Snerdley is still asking me what the one story -- (laughing). This Cornel West stuff doesn't interest you at all? (interruption) This is huge. I do, too. I've always had a soft sport for Cornel. He is what he is. But, you know, he's doing something. He's got this anti-poverty thing he's doing with Tavis Smiley. You know, at least some of these things these guys are trying to do is good. I mean, you gotta give him credit. That's a worthwhile thing that he and Smiley are doing. I don't know how effective they're being at it. But anyway, he's fit to be tied. See, while Obama is taking this country further left than it's ever been, Cornel thinks we're not going that way at all. And not only is Obama not a Lincoln, he's not even a Ford. Barely a Chrysler.
RUSH: Hey, folks, if you think your family is a disaster, if your family embarrasses you to death, if you think your family is a joke, if you think your family is an absolute mess, what you need to do to change your mind about that, you need to get last night's episode of Ray Donovan and watch it, and I guarantee you whatever your family is like, it will seem like heaven compared to the family portrayal. This is a depraved show anyway that you can't turn off. It's a dilemma. It may even be a dichotomy, because it's well written. It's got great performances, but man is it depraved. It is just sick.
Have you seen it, Snerdley? (interruption) I'm just telling you. If you think that your family, you wouldn't want anybody to ever come to a family birthday party or a family holiday, if you don't want to go to your own family's stuff, the best way to feel better about your family is to watch this. I don't remember the name of the episode, but it's Ray Donovan on Showtime nine o'clock Eastern every Sunday night. Get the episode from last night.
RUSH: There are no more betas. Snerdley asks, "Is Apple coming out with new beta?" They're gonna continue releasing betas of the Mac Yosemite, but there aren't anymore iPhone or iPad betas. They said Beta 5 and that's it. Beta 5. There was a sixth beta, but they sent that one to their partners, which is the AT&T and Sprint, and they're testing that one to make sure it works.
If no problems are found then they'll do a gold master around September the 9th. So, no, Beta 5 is it. Why are you asking that? You don't have the betas on your machines. (interruption) Well, you want to know when the news phones are gonna drop? Well, it's all rumor. The rumor is that Apple's got its announcement on Tuesday, September 9th, the day I get back from a little vacation.
I'm coming back for that, in fact. But Apple hasn't confirmed that. If that's true, if September 9th is indeed the day Apple announces them, then the date you can buy it will be Friday, September 19th. If they do it as they've always done it -- announce it on a Tuesday of a week and then the following Friday it's for sale -- those dates are the 9th and the 19th, 10 days after announcement.
So book it if you want, based on experience and rumor.
