RUSH: Here’s Sue in Modesto as we head back to the phones. Great to have you on the program. Hello.

CALLER: Hi. Can you hear me okay?

RUSH: Yeah. I hear you fine.

CALLER: Listen, I used to hate you and my late husband used to say, “You gotta listen to this. This guy is really great. He’s smart, he’s funny, he’s blah, blah, blah.” I said, “I hate him.” “Why do you hate him?” “Everybody’s a Dittohead that listens, okay?” So my uncle, who lived near Sacramento, listened to you every day, and he loved it when you said, “Are you listening in Rio Linda?” That was because my uncle lived in Rio Linda and had a little store in Rio Linda.

Every time you did it, he was just thrilled. So, anyway, one day I’m driving towards Stockton, and I thought, “Eh, I’ll turn the radio on,” and I got you by accident. Now, I was a liberal Democrat all my life and a tree hugger and animal rights activist. I’m still the two latter ones. Well, you said something about animal rights people, and it was just so funny. I laughed so hard I almost drove off the freeway. And from that day on, I have listened virtually every single day, and I don’t know what I would do without you now.

RUSH: That is simply incredible.

CALLER: Well, I’m a conservative.

RUSH: But you weren’t. You were a fire-breathing liberal.

CALLER: I hated you.

RUSH: You hated me. You’re despised me. You hated the fact that people mentioned my name. You hated it.

CALLER: Yep, and my late husband said, “Well, you gotta listen to him.” I said, “No, I don’t need to listen to him. I don’t like him.” (laughing) I had no idea!

RUSH: But you had not listened at that point?

CALLER: No.

RUSH: You just hated me because you thought you should, right?

CALLER: I hated you. And I found out you are smart. You’re quick.

RUSH: Yeah?

CALLER: You’re funny.

RUSH: Right.

CALLER: I could go on and on with that thought.

RUSH: You know what’s amazing? You still admit to being an animal rights supporter.

CALLER: Yes… (garbled cell)

RUSH: And yet I said something funny about animal rights wackos, you thought was funny. I guess you weren’t insulted by it, otherwise you wouldn’t have undergone your conversion.

CALLER: Well, listen, I know you know this ’cause I’ve worked in radio a long time ago. You worked at KFBK in Sacramento when my uncle listened. That’s how far back he went. If you aren’t entertaining, it doesn’t matter what your politics are. You’ll be gone.

RUSH: That’s true.

CALLER: Yup.

RUSH: Well, I appreciate that. Sue, you’re very perceptive and very kind. And I appreciate that. So you say you’re still an animal rights wacko and a tree hugger. So you’re an environmentalist wacko and you’re still into animal rights, but, nevertheless, you still found your way here to see the light and enjoy the program. I appreciate that. Thank you. See? This happens.

I contend to you that this is happening all over the country. Especially now, but it’s gone on for the whole 25 years, and the left knows it. The Democrat Party at the upper echelon knows it, and callers like this — do not doubt me — bother them to no end. The only thing they’ve got is character assassination. They cannot enter the arena of ideas with us and hope to triumph.

They have to lie about everything they believe. They don’t dare enter into a debate, and if they do start one, in 30 seconds it quickly descends into personal attacks and insults. The only hope they have is discrediting people who can tell the truth about them. And if that fails, such as it has here with Sue, then they get worried and they ramp it up. The things that they are doing to decent people…

Both in politics and out, the things that they are doing to people all over this country in order to keep people from learning the truth about them is really hurtful. The left is really, really damaging and harming this country in all kinds of ways. They are doing it with deceit and lies and character assassination, the absolute worst traits and characteristics of personal conduct and behavior. They are defining it.

So any time somebody like Sue comes along who’s nevertheless able to wade through all of that and see the light, that just scares them, and they double down on all the hate. They double down on all the character assassination. They double down on all the efforts to actually silence people, to shut people up.

They do whatever it takes to do so, because these people cannot tolerate dissent. They’re not interested in it. They’re not interested in debates. They’re not interested in the alternative point of view. They’re not interested. They don’t think there should be any opposition. So, Sue, I appreciate the call, and the quirk of fate that resulted in your seeing the light.
