History Is Made! Rush's First TV Show

any of the EIB Network's 22-plus million listeners joined us after Rush achieved his perch as the most-successful broadcaster in the history of Guglielmo Marconi's little invention. But the way things started out, that was anything but a given. The self-appointed gurus of conventional wisdom told Rush that a national radio show wouldn't work, then that it wouldn't work if he didn't start having on guests, and then that it wouldn't grow.
When Bill Clinton won in 1992, the gurus said EIB would fail with a Democrat in the White House. Then, when Bill Clinton left office this year, these same gurus said that EIB would fail without a Democrat in the White House! As Rush has always said, his success is not based on who wins elections, but rather on his views, humor and masterful presentation of views so-often maligned by the mainstream press.
Well, back on September 14, 1992, Rush began another enterprise the "experts" said would fail: Rush Limbaugh the Television Show. The show kicked off with Rush's face obscured by a blue dot, because, he said, "I stand accused of being the most heinous American alive today. Why? Because I...am a conservative." From that day on, the TV show fought everything from unfounded criticism to program directors who banished it to 3 AM timeslots, and still shattered ratings records and spanked the likes of Leno and Letterman.

In articles since then, many a liberal author has tried to paint the show as having been "canceled" or having "failed," but that's simply a lie. The very same feeling you'll get watching these first moments of broadcast history will tell you why that show was such a huge success - and why TV shows - and entire networks still clamor to get Rush on TV. The man makes great television, and compels people to smash the remote rather than risk accidentally changing the channel.
