RUSH: More polling data. I referred to this earlier. This is the Washington Post/ABC poll, and this is... Again, they write this stuff and they're just grim as they can be. They wish they didn't have to write it, you can tell. Here's the headline: "Poll Shows Bush with Solid Lead." Now, listen to the first sentence.

"President Bush heads into the first presidential debate with a solid lead over John F. Kerry, boosted by the perception that he is a stronger leader with a clearer vision, despite deep concerns about Iraq and the pace of the economic recovery, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News Poll and interviews with voters in battleground states." It's interesting to point out that in this story, the Washington Post did not talk to one Republican voter in battleground states.

All of the quotes are with unlikely or Democrat voters. Not one of them, not one of the people they spoke to here, that they attribute a quotation to, is a Republican. "Bush's relentless attacks on Kerry..." Relentless? "...have badly damaged the Democrat nominee the survey and interviews showed," damn it! "Voters routinely describe Kerry as wishy-washy, as a flip-flopper and as a candidate they are not sure they can trust, almost as if they are reading from Bush campaign ad scripts." You can understand the mainstream press' frustration. They've been trying to cancel that out. The mainstream press has been trying to say just the opposite -- just another sign that they don't carry and wield the influence that they used to, and it is bothering them. Next paragraph: "Bush remains a polarizing figure, strongly admired by his supporters and despised by partisans on the left. Some swing voters who disagree with his policies nonetheless see him as a confident leader and express reluctance to vote him out of office in the middle of the struggle against terrorism--" Even if their horse is headed to the waterfall! "--unless Kerry convinces them that he can do a better job."
Kerry can't convince them he can do a better job because he's trying to say the job doesn't need to be done! He's trying to say the job is a mistake. Kerry is trying to say, "The job is no more than Vietnaaaaaaaaaaam and we've got to get the hell out of there."

This whole campaign is not a campaign designed to win, folks, and I'm going to say that right off the top. It doesn't looking it's a campaign designed to win, not in any America I know. If this were the middle of the Vietnam War, and it was after ten years of relentless pounding on the war in Iraq and there was sufficient public opinion against it and if there were 55,000 U.S. deaths, and if the unemployment rate was 14% and interest rates were 21%, I could understand this campaign, but this campaign makes no sense. It makes no sense whatsoever unless you understand the paradigm, unless you understand the context, unless you understand the karma, and the karma is that the left is losing collectively its mind -- and they are lashing out like cornered rats.

Rather than realize that they've got some problems, admit to them, identify them, and try to fix them, they live in their delusional world that everything about them is still right, and everybody else is a bunch of idiots for not getting it; and since everybody is a bunch of idiots for not getting it the left thinks, they've got to yell and shout and scream even more to get through to you thick-heads out there. What they don't realize is the more they do that the more hysterical they appear and that does not inspire confidence in anyone, particularly undecided or unlikely voters.
