Story #1: Rasmussen: Just 21% Favor GM Bailout Plan

RUSH: Twenty-one percent favor the General Motors bailout plan, 67% oppose it.  So what?  It's a Rasmussen poll.  National telephone survey: 67% opposed to a plan that would provide General Motors with $50 billion in funding and give the government a 70% ownership interest in the company.  Twenty-one percent favor it.  But it doesn't matter.  He can't be stopped.

Story #2: Late Friday: Obama Drops Ban on Lobbyists in Gov't

RUSH: Did you hear that Obama just threw away his ban on lobbyists in his administration?  That happened in a document dump opposite Friday afternoon after the news (the state-run media) had shut down for the weekend.  Oh, yeah.  You can bring lobbyists back now to the Obama administration.

Story #3: Justice Dept. Rejects Georgia's Illegal Voter Purge

RUSH: Do you remember last week when the Obama Justice Department dropped all charges against the New Black Panther Party in Philadelphia for voter intimidation?  Ah, they just dropped the charges.  The career lawyers in the Justice Department brought the charges. The political appointees, Eric Holder, dropped the charges.  In the Atlanta Journal and Constipation today -- there is a trend emerging here, folks.  There is a trend emerging.  "The US Justice Department has rejected a program put together by Secretary of State Karen Handel..."  She is a Republican secretary of state in Georgia.  Her proposal, her program, was "to comb through state databases to detect ineligible voters who may not be U.S. citizens."  The US Justice Department has rejected that program.  So they dropped charges against a New Black Panther Party -- and video shows that the New Black Panthers were clearly intimidating voters at that Philadelphia polling place.

I mean, they had weapons, and they had uniforms.  And they were truly threatening.  So the Secretary of State in Georgia, Susan Handel, says, "You know, we gotta purge the voting rolls here. We gotta find people on here who are illegal, who are dead, who don't exist anymore," and US Justice Department said, "No! You can't do that. It's inaccurate and discriminatory. You can't discriminate against illegals and you can't discriminate against the dead." Now, there's a trend emerging.  Nobody can stop this.  The State of Georgia, the State of Georgia has been told by the US Justice Department that it cannot purge its voting rolls of illegals and people who are dead.  Say good-bye to federalism.

Story #4: Coming Soon: State Takeover of the News Business

RUSH: Obama does not have to take over the television and print news business 'cause they've already given themselves to him. What used to be the mainstream media is now the state-run or the state-controlled media of the United States.  But take a look at newspapers, for example.  It got even worse today with the advertising revenue that's down, the losses, the circulation drops. I don't have the numbers in front of me. I'll get 'em in a moment. But the news in the newspaper business, the financial news, just got worse.  And what are we beginning to hear?  We're beginning to hear notions -- and even like John Kerry has proposed that the government bail some of these people out and turn the news business into nonprofits.  If the government ends up buying news media, who runs it?  The state.  Now, a lot of you are concerned, and I get e-mails from you frequently, about the Fairness Doctrine and how the Obama administration might choose to shut down talk radio.

It ain't going to happen that way.  A lot of people are talking that it might happen with new localism rules and ownership rules.  It could happen it way.  Even though this program -- and I say this proudly. Even though this program has yet to have an off financial year, and we are financially up this year over last year and every other year, the same cannot be said about broadcasting.  Just like the newspaper business, the broadcast business is having challenges with advertisers. We aren't because we're a results-oriented advertising option for people, meaning you advertise here to get immediate results and the people who advertise here do.  There's another form of advertising cause cost-per-thousand, CPM, and to brief explain that, advertisers are just buying in order to make impressions.

Not really sell anything per se, but just get the brand impression made in the listener or the viewer's mind.  But we here are a results-oriented buy and so we get results, so we're up.  But radio and television are also suffering from similar losses because advertising revenue is down.  Now, it is already the fact that the government regulates radio and TV by granting owners of stations the license to operate.  There are several radio companies that are in debt. Big time.  Some are in such debt that they may not be able to make their debt payments this year.  The banks are reluctant to lend.  You know, the TARP money? It hasn't been used to extend credit.  Here's how the banks are being used.  Obama is using the banks to advance all of his causes.  TARP money was supposed to be used to buy so-called toxic mortgage loans and to get credit going.  It's completely unconstitutional.  But now they're taking this money and using it for ways that were never intended, to turn banks into instrumentalities of the executive branch.

So let's say radio company A, deeply in debt with a big loan payment due at the end of the year, can't make it.  They have to go to the banks.  The banks say, "Ah, we're not loaning money." Oh. Okay, we want to restructure." "Ahhh, we can't restructure."  The government owns the banks, or a lot of them.  So what happens if the government then tells the bank, "Okay, go ahead and make a loan to that company, radio A?"  It's just like General Motors. The government then owns that radio company, and when the government owns the radio company -- just like they can tell General Motors what kind of cars they're going to build -- they will be able to tell radio stations and TV stations what their programming must be.  This is a possibility.  What is possible is the federal government actually owning a state-run media. Newspapers, too. Auto companies and banks. All the while the leader of our country saying that's the last thing he's interested in.

Story #5: Obama's NYC Trip is Chump Change, Republicans!

RUSH: From US News and World Report: "Republicans Grumble as Obamas Jet to New York and Taxpayers Pick Up Tab."  It supposedly cost 24 grand, he took a couple of Gulfstream Vs and helicopters and all that for a date night in New York.  Yip yip yip yip yahoo.  Republicans are going to criticize this, and that's fine.  This is easy.  I mean it's easy.  Anybody can understand this, but it isn't gonna matter because Obama got a standing ovation from people whose lives he disrupted on Saturday night, from traffic, to restaurants, to the theater.  Everybody whose life was inconvenienced gave a standing ovation to the guy in New York.  So here's the thing about this.  Go ahead and grumble over the fact the Obamas are living it up during a recession and so forth but don't use that as an excuse not to tackle the big stuff 'cause this is chump change, bickering over the Obama Saturday night date is chump change compared to bickering over some of the serious stuff going on out there.  Yeah, we all have to sacrifice.  Obama and Michelle don't, but their supporters don't expect them to sacrifice.  Their supporters applaud the way the Obamas live.  The ones who are inconvenienced at a restaurant, on the highway, at the theater, applaud the Obamas.  So you Republicans, you go ahead and try to make something outta this but it's going to fail.  There's bigger stuff to grumble about than that.  The easy way out is to grumble about this Saturday night date trip.  Anybody can do that, it isn't going to accomplish anything.

Story #6: Ford Has an Opportunity to Make the Cars You Want

RUSH: An interesting side note today from the Wall Street Journal:  "Ford Motor Co. is preparing an effort to gain market share. … Ford, the only one of Detroit's Big Three that didn't need a bailout from the federal government, plans to increase production of cars and trucks in the third quarter by about 10% from the level of a year ago, a company official said. … Chief Executive Alan Mulally of Ford, which plans for the third quarter its first significant production increase in almost two years. 'This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to separate us from our other domestic competitors,' said a person familiar with the matter at Ford. 'No one is going to gift-wrap it for us. You have to deliver the product people want to buy. That said, you have to take this historic opportunity to grab market share.'"

What Ford can do is start making cars you want.  While GM has to make Obama mobiles and Chrysler has to make Obama mobiles, Ford can get a head start because these new CAFE standards are going to make them sell Obama mobiles, don't kick in for another seven years, and Ford knows it.  So here you go, a private sector company that did not take a dime of bailout money is increasing production.  The two that did are bankrupt.  Obama cares.

Story #7:
Obama Puts 31-Year-Old in Charge of Dismantling GM

RUSH: I also had not intended to talk about Barack Obama and GM for two hours today.  But I can't get away from it.  This is just outrageous what is happening today and what it means.  This is from the New York Times today: "It is not every 31-year-old who, in a first government job, finds himself dismantling General Motors and rewriting the rules of American capitalism.  But that, in short, is the job description for Brian Deese, a not-quite graduate of Yale Law School who had never set foot in an automotive assembly plant until he took on his nearly unseen role in remaking the American automotive industry." Obama has appointed a 31-year-old young man who has never been in the automobile business and he's responsible for dismantling it and putting it back together as a functioning enterprise under Obama's tutelage.  While all the while Obama says he's not running the company, that the board of directors is.  But here's a 31-year-old almost Yale Law graduate, even if he had been a full-fledged Yale Law graduate, how does that qualify him to dismantle and put back together General freaking Motors?

Story #8: Obama Urged Automaker Loans He Says He Inherited

RUSH: Let us not forget this, ladies and gentlemen.  I found this at Sweetness-Light.com.  It is from the Washington Post.  It's November 11th, 2008.  "In his remarks today about the General Motors bankruptcy, Mr. Obama gave the clear impression that the federal government, specifically the Bush administration, had long ago begun the pernicious practice of loaning the automaker money. And that he, Mr. Obama has always been reluctant to go this route."  But if you go back to the Washington Post Tuesday, November 11th, 2008, this is one week after the election: "President-elect Barack Obama yesterday urged President Bush to support immediate aid for struggling automakers and back a new stimulus package, even as congressional Democrats began drafting legislation to give the Detroit automakers quick access to $25 billion by adding them to the Treasury Department’s $700 billion economic rescue program. Bush, speaking privately to Obama during their first Oval Office meeting, repeated his administration’s stand that he might support quick action on those bills if Democratic leaders drop their opposition to a Colombia trade agreement that Bush supports."

So the bottom line is Obama urged this.  One week after the election Obama urged, essentially, the General Motors bailout.  And today he's up there saying he never wanted any part of it, he inherited this, it's a mess, he didn't intend this, it's another one of these challenges he inherited, never thought he would be faced with, he wanted it.  He wants all of this.  You just have to figure out why this is so successful for him and not for anybody else.

Story #9:
Pravda: American Capitalism Gone with a Whimper

RUSH: How may of you saw the story in the English-language version of Pravda over the weekend? "American Capitalism Gone with a Whimper." Listen to the lede, here: "It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breathtaking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.  True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was.

But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists.  "Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.  First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then (sic) the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their 'right' to choke down a McDonalds (sic) burger or a BurgerKing (sic) burger than for their constitutional rights."

Nobody ever called 911 when they lost a constitutional right, but they call 911 when they didn't get their McNuggets. "Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our 'democracy'" in Russia. "Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different 'branches and denominations' were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the 'winning' side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the 'winning' side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power.

Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America," meaning Russian Orthodox churches. "The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. "His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic (sic) and at worst Zimbabwe.

"These past two weeks have been the most breathtaking of all. First came the announcement of a planned redesign of the American Byzantine tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, loses and swindles of hundreds of billions of dollars. These make our Russian oligarchs look little more then ordinary street thugs, in comparison. Yes, the Americans have beat our own thieves in the shear volumes. Should we congratulate them?"  English-language version of Pravda, the state-run media in the old Soviet Union -- and the key words here, in the lede: "the American decent into Marxism." Pravda, calling Marxism something you fall into.
