RUSH: Let me ask you guys a question.  Are the Drive-Bys actually afraid to trust the election to the voters?  They're sure acting that way.  They're turning little Barry's summer camp trip into a virtual coronation, precisely as I predicted. Even some in the Drive-Bys are groaning about this.  McCain didn't get this kind of coverage.  In fact, I'll tell you who it is.  It's our old buddy Howard Kurtz.  Grab audio sound bite number six.  This is from Reliable Sources yesterday.  The Obama coverage for Kurtz may be the final straw.  This is what he said.

KURTZ:  When you have one candidate whose trip is covered by the three anchors and the other candidate whose foreign travels are barely covered; when you have one candidate who gets twice as much airtime on the network evening newscasts since early June; when you have one candidate, Barack Obama, getting more than twice as many covers, TIME and Newsweek, than John McCain.  Just look at something.  We pulled out some Newsweek covers here.  Look.  Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama.

WOMAN: (giggling)

KURTZ: At that point, there is clearly an imbalance.  The sheer volume becomes an imbalance.  And I think that we have inadvertently or otherwise put our thumb on the scale and there could be a big backlash against news organizations if this trend continues.

RUSH:  Howard, what do you think is going on now?  Howard, I love you man, you know that, and I'm glad that you finally noticed this, but have you seen layoffs in the newspaper business?  Have you seen Katie Couric's ratings?  Have you seen who her sponsors are?  Probably not, because nobody else is watching, either.  Have you seen the ratings for Drive-By newscasts? Have you seen the ratings for cable network news that leans left?  Have you seen what's happening to Newsweek and TIME and their circulation? Howard, people have already noticed the imbalance! (laughs)  And, yes, it's huge, Howard.  People started noticing, if I must say, 20 years ago.  The Drive-Bys are in big trouble, Howard.  They don't have their monopoly any longer. They haven't had it for a long time.

People are fed up.  In fact, Howard, I'm going to give you a little clue, a little hint. This trip that Obama is on? Nobody cares.  They care what it says at the gas pump when they pull in to fill up, Howard.  They don't care that Barry is going to be over there talking to Karzai, they don't care that Barry is going to be over there talking to al-Maliki, if they even know who the hell he is. They don't care that Barry is going to be over there talking to the troops, because the one thing they know is that Bush has that handled, and McCain.  So people are already bent out of shape about this.  You talk about a backlash? These people are becoming a joke.  I'm not yelling at Howard here.  He did a great thing here by pointing out this imbalance.  I feel like saying, "Welcome to the club."

They're turning this trip into a virtual coronation.  As I say, even some of the Drive-Bys are now starting to groan about this.  I mean Hillary never got this kind of coverage, not even the real president, George W., got this kind of coverage.  Three network media anchors, hundreds of reporters, media celebrities, still photographers, videographers, sound technicians, lighting experts, makeup people. The last count I heard was over 200 fellow travelers. (ahem) No pun intended.  Why the feeding frenzy?  Why do you think, Snerdley? Why the feeding frenzy?   Why are all three anchors trailing around like little puppy dogs with their tongues out (panting) hoping and hoping for their interview?  Why, Snerdley? Why? Tell me? Why are they doing this?  Mmm-hmm.

They want Obama to be president!  They know that Obama has speech-making gravitas.  They know he has zero foreign policy gravitas.  They think that their images, that their coverage, that their interviews will create instant gravitas, that they can instantaneously convert Obama, who knows nothing about any of this, to a statesman.  Here's what they want you to believe, ladies and gentlemen.  It took Obama three years at Harvard to learn all about law.  But it will take Obama only a few days, six days in the Middle East and Europe to learn all about foreign policy and national defense.  But there's another possibility here for the media overkill.  The Drive-Bys remember how Hillary clobbered Obama.  Hillary mauled Obama in the last wave of the primaries.

Don't think the Democrats have forgotten this.  Don't think there's not some concern over just who doesn't like Obama and who is never going to vote for Obama.  And when Obama's off script and tells us who he really is -- such as at San Francisco and his bitter clinger comments -- they know they've got a problem.  By the way, Operation Chaos was a central factor in maintaining Hillary's viability.  Ohio: Hillary beat Obama by ten.  Pennsylvania: Hillary by ten.  South Dakota, ditto.  Kentucky: Hillary plus 35.  Puerto Rico: Hillary plus 36. Even though it didn't count, it counted to Hillary's supporters.  The media worries he won't finish off McCain any more than he could finish off Hillary.  By the way, he never finished Hillary off.  It was the superdelegates that bailed him out.  The Democrats know this.  Obama doesn't close well.  Obama doesn't finish.  But maybe, my friends, maybe I, El Rushbo (the all-knowing, all-caring, all-sensing, all-feeling, all-important, all-everything Maha Rushie) am being unkind.

As the first black candidate, Obama is news, to the Drive-Bys. He's a big deal, historic for the Drive-Bys, big deal to Condi Rice.  Do you realize how many people in his own party are sabotaging McCain? After he sabotaged them, I guess  it's tit-for-tat.  He's a rock star, Obama is.  He's bigger news.  And as a possible Messiah, why he's still even bigger news, bigger than Princess Di, bigger than Mother Teresa, bigger than Gorbachev! Obama is bigger than Nelson Mandela.  Obama is bigger than the finals of American Idol.  Obama is bigger than Princess Di, Mother Teresa, Gorbachev, Nelson Mandela, the finals of American Idol combined, to the Drive-By Media.  That is why they're there.  They also think he's going to translate to ratings.  Why in the world, after you've seen Obama on Slay the Nation on Sunday and Good Morning America and then Nightline, would you wait 'til Thursday to see Katie and Wednesday to see Brian Williams?  That's what they're doing.  I don't know if they drew lots, or if the Obama people decided who's more important.  'Cause whatever Katie's going last.  But Lara Logan, the Preggers International correspondent, went first on Slay the Nation.

RUSH: On Good Morning America today, McCain starting to get a little hot under the collar here at Obama.  The question from Diane Sawyer, "You've criticized Obama in the past for not going to Iraq and getting a fresh statement and assessment.  He's in Iraq as we speak this morning.  Does this take care of it?"

MCCAIN:  I know that he'll be able to have the opportunity to see the success of the surge.  It has succeeded.  This is the same strategy that he voted against, railed against, campaigned for his nomination and obtained his nomination in opposition.  He was wrong about the surge.  It is succeeding and we are winning, and I hope he will agree that he had a fundamental misjudgment of the need for this change in strategy, which has succeeded, which is allowing us to win this war.  He should admit that he was wrong.

RUSH:  Right, like that's going to happen.  Senator, he's got four positions on this.  He can go back and site any of those four positions and say he was right all along.  Do we really expect Obama to call a press conference and respond, "I want to say, misjudgment, huge misjudgment, I was wrong about Iraq"?  It's like asking somebody to renounce you.  Here's Obama, by the way, Sunday morning, Face the Nation, the preggers correspondent Lara Logan.  This is early on in Obama's pimp ride of Bush's policy.  Lara Logan says, "Is this trip partly aimed at overcoming a perception that there's doubt among some Americans that you could lead a country in war as commander-in-chief from day one," that basically you don't know diddly-squat.  Well, she didn't say that, but that's what the question is.  Are you really doing this because you're trying to make people think you know what's going on when you don't?

OBAMA:  The troops that I've been meeting with over the last several days, they don't seem to have those doubts.  So the objective of this trip was to have substantive discussions with people like President Karzai or Prime Minister Maliki or President Sarkozy or others who I expect to be dealing with over the next eight to ten years.

RUSH:  There it is, the eight to ten-year comment.  It's the arrogance of arrogance here.  It's not the ten years. I know that ten years is part of it, like the 57 states.  What gets me is, who is the last candidate that said she wasn't going to lose?  It was Mrs. Clinton.  She was asked by Katie Couric on the same network, "I'm sure you made plans for losing." "No, I haven't."  "Well, you gotta be prepared."  "I'm not going to lose."  Obama's already elected.  The Drive-Bys are treating him as though he's presidential already on this trip.  Next question from the preggers correspondent of CBS, Lara Logan, "Well, does the US have to start planning to put more troops in Afghanistan now?"

OBAMA:  I believe US troop levels need to increase.

RUSH:  Oh, spare me.

OBAMA:  We understand that the situation is precarious and urgent here in Afghanistan and I believe this has to be --

RUSH:  Stop the tape.  I can't handle this.  He's not done one thing to help the situation.  He chairs a subcommittee in the Senate on Afghanistan and Eastern European affairs. He hasn't done diddly-squat, hasn't held a hearing.  Everybody says we need to increase troop presence in Afghanistan, but not American troop presence, we need more NATO troops there.  The NATO people are backsliding and not coming forward.  He's the last in line to say we need more troops in Afghanistan, but he's made this pronouncement from on high.  The Lord Merciful Barack Obama says we need more troops, and so thou shalt put more troops in Afghanistan.  And of course the Drive-Bys who don't want more troops anywhere, all of a sudden, "Yes, we have assessed what the Lord Obama has said, and we concur, more troops necessary in Afghanistan."  Another question from Face the Nation, the preggers CBS correspondent Lara Logan, "You do have a situation seven years on into this war where Bin Laden and all his lieutenants, all the leaders of the Taliban, they're still there, and they're inside Pakistan."

OBAMA:  If we hadn't taken our eye off the ball we might have caught them before they got into Pakistan and we're able to reconstitute --

RUSH:  Stop the tape.  This is just irresponsible.  You talk to the troops that were -- take our eye off the ball?  We didn't pull troops out of Afghanistan to go into Iraq.  This guy is a jerk, an arrogant jerk.  A Jerk Messiah.

OBAMA:  So we made a strategic error, and it's one that we're going to pay for, and unfortunately the people of Afghanistan will pay for as well.

RUSH:  Stupid idiot.

OBAMA:  But we now have an opportunity to correct that problem.

RUSH:  Yeah?

OBAMA:  If you look at what's happening right now, in Iraq --

RUSH:  Yeah?  Yeah?

OBAMA:  Prime Minister Maliki has indicated he wants a timetable for withdrawal.

RUSH:  Oh, yeah, harping on this, so now we can withdraw troops from Iraq and send them to Afghanistan when your voters think they are coming home.  Took our eye off the ball, maybe we would have caught Bin Laden.  Hey, Obama, he's in Pakistan.  How come you haven't caught him yet, pal?  You're right over there.  How come we don't have world peace?  How come you're not in Iran, Obama, settling the nuclear problem there?  You're The Messiah!

RUSH: This is Heather in Morristown, Tennessee.  Hi, Heather.  Nice to have on you on the EIB Network.

CALLER:  Hi, Rush.  How are you?

RUSH:  Very well.  Thank you.

CALLER:  Well, I just love talking with you.  You are just a wonderful man and I appreciate your radio and your words.

RUSH:  Thank you.  Thank you very much.

CALLER:  You're welcome.  My question is this.  How in the world did Barack Obama get as far as he's gotten?  He's come from nowhere.  Nobody knew who he was.  It's sickening.

RUSH:  Actually, it's a good question.  It all started in 2004 when Obama delivered a bang-up speech at the Democrat convention, reminiscent of Mario Cuomo's Democrat convention speech in San Francisco in 1984.  In fact, if you look at those two speeches, they mirror each other.   Obama took a lot contextually and premise-wise from Cuomo's speech.  That's what got it all started, and then somebody in the Democrat Party decided that they didn't want the Clintons. They decided this in backrooms so nobody was privy to it, but the Clintons, they had vise grips on this party and its money for a long time, and they're fed up with it and some people said, "We gotta come up with somebody that could beat Hillary," and they figured they needed to find an articulate black guy because an articulate black candidate is immune to criticism. Nobody is going to criticize the black guy because any criticism is going to be accused of being racist and racist-oriented.  It was important to get somebody who could speak well to be able to speak the speeches that the handlers were going to write for the guy, which is exactly what has happened.

And then they went out and got all these puff piece profiles (this is about anywhere from a year to 14 months ago) in the New York Times, in the Washington Post, and in the news magazines that just heralded this guy as a never-before-seen-in-America kind of politician.  They went to work sanitizing everything about the lack of experience, portraying him as something super special, and at the time nobody took it seriously and nobody was really criticizing it because the handlers, whoever they are, were right.  We have the first black candidate for president that has a serious chance, and nobody was saying a word, not even the Clintons.

CALLER: Humph.

RUSH: Hillary figured it was all a coronation, she just had to get through the Super Tuesday primaries on February 5th, then it would be hers.  Then Obama started clicking with people because of the Drive-By Media coverage, started going out there and making the speeches that people had written for him, and he delivered it pretty well and all this fainting started and the hope and the change and so forth.  The dirty little secret is that Obama lost all of the important primaries in the last two months of the race.

CALLER:  Right.

RUSH:  He had built up a delegate lead that Mrs. Clinton could not overcome, and that delegate system was created by the Clintons and Terry McAuliffe to keep people like Obama out.  But they just goofed it up.  They were too confident, they didn't plan for anything beyond February 5th and Super Tuesday.  Obama was a great illustration of what happens when you get fawning, never-ending puff piece coverage from the Drive-By Media, and it also unveiled something else that we did not take into account, and that is just how much anger, dissatisfaction, sort of, "Get outta here, will you!" the Democrat Party held for the Clintons.

CALLER:  Hmm.

RUSH:  If that weren't present, this would not have happened.

CALLER:  So my other question would be, is if he gets into office, are the handlers going to be running the country and not him?

RUSH:  Yes, because I don't know what he's doing.

CALLER:  Exactly.

RUSH:  I am not making a joke about this.

CALLER:  No, he doesn't.  I agree.

RUSH:  He's been in the Senate 143 days.  He was a "community organizer," think Al Sharpton.  He says things that indicate he does not know what he's doing. He's dangerous.  He does not have an ideological understanding of the tyrants of the world and what drives them.  He knows what he has been taught.  He's not even a thinker.  He has learned what he was taught in the Ivy League classrooms, and what he's been taught is that America is a country is in a constant state of decline. We're to blame for most of the world's evils.  He believes this.  He's not a thinker.

CALLER:  Well, it's pretty scary.  My vote's for McCain, but I sure hope everybody else jumps on board with that.

RUSH:  I'll tell you what else is going to happen out there, Heather.

CALLER:  What?

RUSH:  If he does manage to get elected, you're going to see something fascinating.  Yeah, whoever's running Obama will be right there in the Oval Office doing it. Somewhere, somehow.  But old Pelosi and Harry Reid, they're going to be sitting there, and they're going to properly understand this guy is just waiting to be picked apart.  They like power, too.  Congress instinctively is always in combat with the executive branch.  I guarantee you they're going to do everything they can to make sure they get their agenda, if Obama's doesn't dovetail with theirs.  Now, if we have all these increased Democrat seats in the House and the Senate, we've had experience with this. Yeah, they ran the country, but they just do a rotten job of it.

CALLER:  Exactly.  How much more in the ground are they going to run it?

RUSH:  In this guy's case, it won't be just enough to say he did a rotten job. This guy is dangerous, with his lack of experience lack of understanding of just who our enemies are.

CALLER:  Sure, because our defense, our national defense is at stake.

RUSH:  Well, no, see, that's where you're wrong.  The only reason we even are at risk is because of the way we have been and because who we are and the way we have treated people.  Obama actually said after 9/11, our buddies at World Net Daily recycled this today, that the only reason they hit us is because they're in poverty, they're mad that we have all the world's riches. This is what happens when the United States denies the people of the world economic progress.  This is so ignorant.

CALLER:  The world is not our problem, their economics.

RUSH:  Wait a second.  But that's not who the terrorists are. Bin Laden's a billionaire.  Al-Zawahiri and these people have money!

CALLER:  That is true.

RUSH:  They're not recruiting people from poor economic circumstances. They're recruiting zealots who are being trained in these mosques and madrasahs to hate America.  It has nothing to do with economics.  It has to do with religious ideology, pure and simple.  He doesn't even get this!  So he's been taught, he has learned: We're the focus of evil; we're the problem.  And he thinks that with him in charge, people will see that we're a different country now. We will regain our world respect. People will love us, and they will have no more use for us as enemies.
