Story #1: Hope & Change: Worker Morale Gets Beat Down
RUSH: "The majority of those still employed now put in longer hours for less pay, quelling motivation in the workplace." Now, the headline is depressing enough, the whole story is a downer, especially when you realize that Obama wants to add more pain on top of this with taxes on health care and cap and trade. What is it, $1700, the administration itself is saying $1700 additional per family in cap-and-trade taxes to an average family. The incentive to grow, the incentive to prosper is being snuffed out and snuffed out fast.
"You don't have to get laid off to feel the pain of this recession. Many workers lucky enough to have survived the ax are still feeling unhappy and unmotivated at work. Raises, bonuses and other incentive programs have been slashed since the downturn began, and employees saddled with additional workloads for less pay are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with their current position -- or just plain burnt out. 'You can't help but just do the bare essentials to keep you from being fired,' said Domnick Eger, an information technology specialist in Phoenix, Ariz. … Eger isn't alone. It is clear that the recent economic downturn has had an adverse impact on productivity and morale." Well, wait a minute. Seriously, now, the New York Times said just the opposite yesterday, that if you are still working and you haven't been laid off you're getting raises. Wages are booming out there, we had the story. I know it was just a transparent cover-up of Obama and his dismal economy, but they still said it. But now all of a sudden CNN is throwing cold water on the whole thing: worker morale getting beat down.
Story #2: Obama's Cap & Trade Tax: $1,700 for Every Family
RUSH: By the way, I need to make a small correction. I said that the administration announced a $1700-a-year tax increase with Obama's cap-and-trade program, and I was wrong about that. That was buried in an internal report that was found, it was discovered by the conservative Free Enterprise Institute think tank with a Freedom of Information Act request, exactly right. It was not dug out by our watchdog media. The reason I got fooled on this is because I only saw the headline of this story, and the headline: "Administration announces or admits $1700." I thought they announced it. I should not have been so foolish. It took some digging.
Story #3: Fascinating Update on the Dumpster Sex Story
RUSH: We have an update on the story out of Wichita yesterday where the couple that was having a private intimate moment in a Dumpster were robbed by two seasoned citizens who happened to get them in there. Got a note here. "Rush: I'm from Wichita. The area around Waco where that Dumpster is, is notorious for its 'women of entrepreneurial spirit,' so to speak. It's reasonable to assume that the Dumpster in question is really the lady's low-rent, tax-free office." What self-respecting guy would hire a prostitute and go to a Dumpster?
Story #4: BS Alert: Obama's Website Drops Public Option
RUSH: The whole objective here in the health care debate is to get everybody on the public option. However, there has been a development on this. Warner Todd Huston, who writes for a number of websites, NewsBusters, has a piece posted at PubliusForum.com, and he's been monitoring Obama's website, the Organizing for America website that, you know, tells ACORN people what to do out of the White House and all these other community organizations. Organizing for America is where they sent out instructions to the union thugs to show up and beat up people at the town hall meetings, yeah. Warner Todd Huston says: "It looks like President Obama’s campaign site cum community organizing website, Organizing for America (OFA), has quietly dropped its claim that the 'public option' is a 'must' in its healthcare policies open letter to Congress. Originally the open letter told Congress that it 'must' vote for the public option. The second bullet point in the OFA’s letter originally read as follows: Guarantee choice - Every American must have the freedom to choose their plan and doctor - including the choice of a public insurance option," and he's got a screen shot here showing it.
That was when Obama was raising money from his lefty followers. Now it's a different story. "Apparently that whole must urgency is no longer as important on Obama's campaign website. Now the original, more insistent bullet points are gone and a generic message only mentioning that the Obama plan has a public option in it now appears. So, what gives? Has Team Obama decided to thumb its nose at its far left followers and shy from the so-called public option? … Or is it just realism hitting team Obama between the eyes?" Or is it a feint? I would vote for the latter. But regardless, there are a bunch of lefty websites that are up in arms about this public option being taken off of Obama's Campaign for America website. You leftists, you're demanding purity out here and you're going to get purity. I don't care what they come up with. This to me is just straight old common sense. We have a health care system in America, and outside of Medicare and Medicaid it's in the private sector, right? And after we get a health care bill from where? I don't care whether it's the House, the Senate, compromise bill, Obama's going to sign what? A government piece of legislation. And what's it going to control? Health care. Ergo, the whole damn thing is government-run health care! And part and parcel of government-run health care is going to be a public option.
All they're admitting now is that they can't get this if they're open about wanting it in there. So they take it off the website, their left-wing buddies go ape. Some people get fooled into thinking Obama is backing off, he sees the handwriting on the wall, he understands that this can't possibly happen. BS! Obama's got the same dialectic that the old Soviets have. If it takes 15 years to get it, it's what it's going to take. And they'll lay the groundwork for it now. So don't buy the notion that the public option's not there. If these people are not stopped, if they get this done, at some point it's going to be like the amnesty bill, they're going to get it, and they're going to get a public option and they're going to destroy private insurance. They hate the private sector! They do not want to compete with it; they want to wipe it out. It's time to learn who Obama is, and all of this snake oil and all this talk of Baucus bill, just distraction. Nothing's changed, folks.
Story #5: AP Bulletin: Nuke Agency Says Iran Can Make Bomb
RUSH: Breaking news from the AP, bulletin, bulletin, bulletin. "Experts at the world's top atomic watchdog are in agreement that Tehran has the ability to make a nuclear bomb and is on the way to developing a missile system to deliver it." And we are taking down our missile shields in Europe. Way to go, Barack!
Story #6: Federal Government to Take Over All Student Loans
RUSH: I want to go back a week. I want to tell you something the Washington Post published a week ago. But before I do ('cause it's part and parcel the same thing) I'm watching C-SPAN at the top of the hour. Now here we are, we're all caught up in this phony race battle, phony race business. We're all caught up in the public option of health care. "Is this going to happen?" Cap-and-trade and so forth. You know what the House of Representatives are voting on right now? Which means it's going to pass. Eliminating all private loans by 2010 in the student loan program. The federal government will take over the entire student loan program next year. That means that all higher-education loans will be controlled by Obama and his minions. ACORN will be your children's route to "higher education." If you can't afford it yourself and you can't get a scholarship for some reason, you're going to have to go to ACORN -- or some government office. You're going to have to some government bureaucrat. Van Jones will be the loan committee head, and, you know, whether you're Republican or Democrat will matter; who you've donated to will matter.
Story #7: WaPo: The Mortgage Industry Has Been Nationalized
RUSH: Let me go back to the Washington Post, because on Monday the 7th, the Washington Post published an article that very few people talked about and was little noticed, about changes in the mortgage market since Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were taken over a year ago. According to the Washington Post -- this is a quote -- "Only one lender of consequence remains [in the mortgage market]: the federal government..." The mortgage industry has been nationalized. "[N]early 90 percent of all new home loans are funded or guaranteed by [YOU!] taxpayers... The government has the power to decide who is qualified for a loan and who is not.
"As a result," writes the Washington Post, "many borrowers among both poor and rich are frozen out of the market," because it's now up to your government and some bureaucrat behind the counter or at a desk to determine whether or not you're gonna get a loan to buy a house. In addition to freezing people out of the market, including those who can afford a mortgage, the government has put "taxpayers... on the hook for most of the loans that are still being made if they go bad." Think subprime all over again. So the government has got 90% of the mortgage market cornered. If they make bad loans to "risky" people and the loans are defaulted on, you, me, we cover it. What, Snerdley? I know they are already did that. It's like called the subprime crisis. Now it's being formalized! We think we're getting reform of all of that that went wrong. We are getting affirmation and growth of what is wrong!
"There is growing evidence that many loans being guaranteed by the government have a significant risk of defaulting. Delinquencies are spiking." Quote, Washington Post! In addition, "the Federal Housing Administration ... is quickly eating through its [supposed] financial cushion" to cover bad loans. Thus far, in under a year, the federal government spent over a trillion dollars taking over the mortgage sector. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are $5 trillion in hock. So we've got universal mortgage care now with single-payer public option mortgages run by the government. Single-payer, public option government. You want a mortgage? You're either going to get it from the federal government or it's going to be guaranteed by the federal government.
In less than a year, the federal government has squeezed out all competition in the mortgage business, they have rationed services, and they're running in the red at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Now, the House of Representatives is voting on taking over the student loan program. All of it. In six months. There will no longer be private loans for the student loan program. Which means whatever interest rate they say is what you pay. There's nowhere else for you to go. No competition in the private loan market for student loans. Zip, zero, nada. This is all happening pretty much under the radar while we're focused on all these distracting things, like race -- half the country being racist -- and all this other stuff. So the Obama agenda is marching on. They have the automobile companies. They've got banking. They got a lot of Wall Street. Some of those Wall Street banks want out. Obama says, "Nope. Not yet." They are going to nationalize energy with cap, trade, and tax. What else? I mean, the list is endless. They are attacking prosperity and the private sector. People are angry, and they would be even angrier if they were really aware what all is happening.
