Story #1: Love Client #9: Stop the Chamber of Commerce
RUSH: I just finished telling you that the Chamber of Commerce is running a $25 million to run an ad campaign to explain free market and free enterprise to the American people. From Slate.com, a piece written today by Eliot Spitzer, client No. 9: "Chamber of Horrors. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce must be stopped. Here's how to do it. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce—the self-proclaimed voice of business in Washington—has been wrong on virtually every major public-policy issue of the past decade: financial deregulation, tax and fiscal policy, global warming and environmental enforcement, consumer protection, health care reform ..." Dot, dot, dot, dot, dot. "The problem is, the chamber is doing all this with our money."
Mr. Spitzer, there is no question what the federal government is doing with our money, and that is destroying our economy. So now the US Chamber of Commerce is a demon, to go along with the insurance industry. The US Chamber of Commerce is now being demonized by Democrats. They have to have a villain to advance everything because they cannot sell their ideas. They had to demonize me with false, fake, made-up quotes to protect their precious little National Football League as an outpost of racism and liberalism, which is what it is.
Story #2: NY Times: States Lag in Recovery (What Recovery?)
RUSH: Then there's this story from the New York Times today, which is a laugher: "States Lag in Recovery, Report Finds." What recovery? "The recent signs of possible improvement in the economy have not trickled down to the states." What possible improvement? The states got the money! Do you realize that the stimulus money that's been spent was given to the states? It's called "government trickle down." It is not working. Tax collections continue to plummet because the stimulus isn't reaching the people who pay taxes. "The recent signs of possible improvement in the economy have not trickled down to the states, which continued to be pummeled this spring by the steepest drop-offs in tax collections since comparable data was first compiled nearly half a century ago." Well, duh! Have you looked at all the people unemployed out there?
Who wrote this? Michael Cooper, New York Times. "The stark numbers in the report tell the story of the recession. People were out of work or earning less, and income tax collections were down 27.5 percent in the quarter. They spent less, and sales tax collections were off by 9.5 percent. The dismal data highlighted a hard truth: there can be a long delay between the time the economy begins to improve, as some economists believe is happening now, and the time that the change is reflected in state finances." There can be a long delay or there cannot be a long delay. What kind of reporting is this? There can be a delay? There is or there isn't! I'd say there is. And there's no analysis in this story of, "By the way, the states got the money." The states got the money and they still write this story. And they blame it on tax revenue. "Ah, damn it. Whoa! I guess the next thing we gotta do is raise taxes, right?" That's the way they look at things.
Story #3: CNN: Cost to Create One stimulus Job is $71,500
RUSH: Now, this is interesting, folks. CNNmoney.com with a story on the economy and the stimulus. They've run the numbers and they have discovered that the cost to create one stimulus job is $71,500. The cost to create the job. For comparison, the real median household income, according to the census in 2008 was $50,303. So the cost to create one job in the stimulus is $21,000 higher than the mean real median income in this country.
Story #4: Gallup: Obama's Favorables Fall to New Low
RUSH: The best thing we can do right now is to continue to stay focused on the destruction of the United States of America brought about by the agenda of President Barack Obama. And looking at that, Byron York here at the Washington Examiner: "A new Gallup poll shows that the number of people who have a favorable impression of Barack Obama has fallen to its lowest point since he became president. Fifty-six percent say they have a favorable impression of Obama, versus 40 percent who say they have an unfavorable impression. (Four percent say they have no opinion.) Historically, a president's personal favorable rating has often been higher than his job approval rating; right now, Gallup has Obama's job approval at 52 percent... Gallup points out that in this latest survey, Hillary Clinton is now more popular than Obama." Now, do we look at that as good news? All depends on your perspective.
Story #5: Democrats in Trouble in Races Across the Country
RUSH: Try this. See if you think this is good news. You know full well that the Democrats are very scared. They are worried about the 2010 midterm elections. They're worried about the governors race in Virginia next month. From the Wall Street Journal: "Republicans won a pair of special elections for state legislative seats in Tennessee and Oklahoma on Tuesday of this week in seats that have been held by Democrats for decades. Combined with this month's capture of the Albuquerque mayor's office by a Republican for the first time in 28 years, the upcoming November 3rd off-year elections may feature a Democrat turnout problem that will boost Republican performance. In Tennessee, Republican businessman Pat Marsh won 56% of the vote to defeat the Democrat Ty Cobb. It wasn't as if Mr. Cobb had a name unknown to voters, his brother Curt had held the seat before resigning to take another government office. Turnout in some counties dipped as low as 13%." Now, Mr. Cobb attributed his defeat to the fact that a lot of people base their opinions on national issues. The health care issue was the main one. And in the governor's race, Creigh Deeds, he does not want Obama anywhere near his campaign, and all these Democrats understand that it's the health care debate that puts them at greatest risk, although there are other things that are endangering their reelection.
And this is from the Pittsburgh Tribune Review: "Only 31 percent of Pennsylvania voters believe Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter should be re-elected, and 59 percent believe it's time to give someone else a chance, a state poll released today shows. Specter's numbers are 'staggering,' said pollster Jim Lee, president of Susquehanna Polling and Research. An incumbent typically is vulnerable if fewer than 40 percent approve of his or her re-election, Lee said. The poll of 700 registered voters, conducted Oct. 7-12, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points. 'When I see a re-elect in the low 30s, that's ... near fatal,' Lee said." Arlen Specter polling at 31%. "Among Republicans, 16 percent said Specter deserves re-election, while 75 percent want a new person. In the Democratic Party, about 44 percent of voters would re-elect Specter; 45 percent want someone else." Now, remember, he changed parties specifically to save the seat. He became a Democrat strictly to enhance his reelection in Pennsylvania, and a poll right now has him at 31%.
Story #6: Obama: I'll Get Jobs for Everyone Who Wants One
RUSH: I have to laugh. "Standing at the site of a highway project funded by his economic stimulus plan, President Barack Obama said Wednesday he is committed to exploring all avenues to create jobs." Well, hey, what timing. After he's gone about and destroyed how many millions of jobs and supposedly come up with a program that's going to get us back to work and unemployment was never going to be higher than 8%, now all of a sudden he's looking at any way to create jobs. I'll tell you what. Don't be fooled. He'll look at any way but the right way. "Obama said his administration is going to keep going until 'every single American in this country who's looking for work is going to be able to get the kind of well-paying job that supports their families.'" That means he's never going to leave because this is never going to happen under him. Let me read this again. "Obama said his administration is going to keep going until 'every single American in this country who's looking for work --" and underline "who's looking for work" "-- is going to be able to get the kind of well-paying job that supports their families.'"
The dirty little secret is it isn't going to be very long before there aren't very many people looking for work. In 2012, the experts are telling us, 2012 before positive growth in the job sector happens. That's three years, my friends, two-and-a-half years. "The administration has stopped short of calling for a second economic stimulus package. But with the job picture slow to improve, Obama said his administration is moving forward on different fronts to boost the economy. … Obama said the current phase of the Fairfax parkway project will create new private sector jobs. His goal, he said, is an economy 'where our stock market isn't only rising again but our businesses are hiring again.' Critics question whether jobs created by the stimulus are worth the price tag and the debt the government has taken on to pay for it." Way to end the story, AP-Obama. Way to end. Remember, $71,500 to create a single job with stimulus money and the real median household income for 2008, $50,303.
Story #7: Nobel Members Objected to Obama Peace Prize
RUSH: Looky here, folks, we're learning some interesting things today in the Stack of Stuff. "Three of the five members of the Norwegian Nobel committee had objections to the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to Obama," according to a Norwegian newspaper. The paper has spoken to a number of sources who confirmed the impression that a majority of the Nobel committee at first had not decided to give the peace prize to Obama but the head honcho, Thorbjoern Jagland, or however you pronounce it in Norwegian, muscled the vote through. Big whoop. Big whoop. What good is this if three people could be rolled?
