RUSH: Let me give you the quote here. This is from the book Dreams… What’s the title? Is it Dreams of, Dreams for, Dreams by, Dreams did? What is it. It’s Dreams from My Father or whatever. Obama wrote, “[T]hat’s what my last two years in high school had been about, after Ray went off to junior college somewhere and I had set the books aside; after I had stopped writing to my father and he’d stopped writing back. I had grown tired of trying to untangle a mess that wasn’t of my making. I had learned not to care. I blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years. [Marijuana] had helped and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though…”

“Smack” was heroin.

He didn’t do any of that.

But he’s admitted the rest in his book here. He talks about getting into Columbia and the Harvard Law Review and so forth. He didn’t ever have to write anything. The standards for everybody else never applied to him. The requirements for him never applied to anybody else. And he didn’t have to do a whole lot of hard work to get where he wanted to go. So if I’m Romney, I can simply say, “Look, you’re out there blowing some weed, you’re out there snorting a little coke and whatever you did with there.

“And, hey, Obama, how could you afford cocaine when you were in high school?

“And while you’re out doing all of that, basically checking out of life, I’m in the process of creating jobs, saving the Olympics, and all this other stuff.” But I know they’re not going to do it. I’m not under any illusion, folks, that they’re gonna go after Obama that way. They are convinced that it wouldn’t work. They’re probably afraid of what the media would do if such an attack on Obama were made. But it doesn’t have to be an attack. It doesn’t have to be an attack!

All it’s gotta be is a quote from his book.

You know, Obama was so middle class, taking month-long vacations on Greyhound Buses and staying at HoJo’s, and he’s doing a little cocaine and smoking a little marijuana. So where did he get all the money for this?

Here’s Greg in Lebanon, Ohio. You’re next on the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Hey, Rush, how are you doing? I just wanted to call and tell you that I think Obama might be on to something here about how somebody has helped in their successful business. Because I’ve been listening to you for about 20 years now, going back to about 1990. And in that time I opened a business. We ended up having to close that down. But we got ourselves back on our feet and we reopened the business about a year and a half ago. And I’d like to thank you for all the times that you’ve pumped me up when various entities just want to kick the crap out of me. (chuckles) I have listened to you for a lot of years and I think he might be right. You’ve helped me a lot.

RUSH: Well, I really appreciate that. Thanks. Thanks very much. But, you know, don’t forget you’re part of the equation here, too, and you got yourself back on your feet. See, if I were Obama, I would take total credit for everything that you say you did. I’d happily take total credit. If you were calling Barack Obama, it would be (impression), “Thank you. Thank you for recognizing that you couldn’ta done it without me and all the other people that came to help you,” and so forth and so on. But people like you… I consider people like you to be the people who make the country work. So I’m gratified when you call and tell me these things. I really am. I thank you very much. I appreciate it.

RUSH: Bob in Boca Raton, Florida, you’re next on the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Hi, Rush. For President Obama to say no individual started a company by himself is so absurd. A guy named Bill Gates, one of the richest men in the world, and Steve Ballmer, formed Microsoft in a poker room at Harvard University. So it amazes me that he can make such a ridiculous statement about American business. He either doesn’t understand how the free enterprise system works, or refuses to admit it or something.

RUSH: No, I think he understands how it works and he hates it. I think he resents it. I’m gonna say this again. In fact, grab sound bite number one. Elizabeth Warren said this back in September of 2011, not quite a year ago, when she was running for the Senate up in Massachusetts. It’s one thing for some dummkopf senator who thinks that she’s Native American to run around and talk this way, a Harvard professor, but here is the president of the United States who is essentially — this is Friday night Roanoke, Virginia — who is essentially telling successful achieved people, which is a lot of people in this country, it’s not a small club.

For this country to have become the world’s superpower, a lot of people had to do great things, a lot. Millions upon millions upon millions of people have done great things for themselves and for other people. And Obama comes along and denigrates that. For a president of the United States to come along and denigrate the entire concept of success and achievement has to mean something. I think it can be said now without equivocation that he hates this country. He literally does. I’m not using that as a throwaway term like you would talk, “Gosh, I hate when that happens.” I think he literally hates this country and is trying to dismantle the American dream. His policies are doing a damn good job of it. He’s turning more and more people out of work. He’s ensuring that the whole notion of creating wealth is becoming more and more difficult because of things he is putting in people’s way. Here, listen to the sound bite again.

OBAMA: Look, i-i-if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own.

FOLLOWERS: That’s right!

OBAMA: You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, “Well, it must be because I was just so smart!”

FOLLOWERS: (laughing)

OBAMA: There are a lot of smart people out there. “It must be because I worked harder than everybody else.” Let me tell you something. There are a whole bunch of hardworkin’ people out there!

FOLLOWERS: (cheers and applause)

OBAMA: If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help!

FOLLOWERS: Yeaaaaaah!

OBAMA: There was a great teacher somewhere in your life.

FOLLOWERS: Yeaaaaaah!

OBAMA: Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges! If you’ve got a business, you — you didn’t build that!

FOLLOWERS: Yeaaaaaah!

OBAMA: Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

RUSH: Stop and think of this for a minute here, folks. “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” Well, that presumably is somebody that wasn’t there. Somebody who wasn’t there obviously, by definition, made your business succeed, made it possible for your business to succeed. You didn’t build that. Of all the things in this he said, and I could go line by line and analyze each one, “Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive.” Yeah, well, who? Who helped to create this unbelievable America? Was it the Founding Fathers? Okay, that allowed you to thrive.

Somebody besides you made it possible for you to have good luck. Somebody invested in roads and bridges, the infrastructure. You couldn’t have done it without people doing that first. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build it. This is not an accidental statement from someone who doesn’t understand how things work. This is not the statement of an ignoramus. This is not the statement of somebody ill-educated. This is a purposeful statement of criticism and attack of successful people who have achieved something. Do you understand now why he’s not coming up with policies to help you grow your business? That Obamacare and all these other policies that he has in mind are there to punish you because you don’t deserve your success, because you have done it on the backs of other people. You have stolen somebody else’s property or you have stolen their labor, or you have used their work and not compensated them, and you’re not properly appreciative.

If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. Folks, I think it has to be said without equivocation, this is a man who hates this country. He’s trying to dismantle the American dream. I don’t know how else to put it. It’s not that he’s an ignoramus. It’s not that he’s stupid. It’s not that he’s mistaken. It’s not that he’s got good intentions but just doesn’t understand. He was indoctrinated as a child. His father was a communist. It matters. His mother was a leftist. That matters. He was sent to prep and Ivy League schools where his contempt for the country was reinforced.

That all matters. That’s real world stuff. His surrogate father for all intents and purposes, Frank Marshall Davis, was a communist deeply resentful of this country. And then he ends up in Chicago with Reverend Wright. That matters. Bill Ayers. That matters. These are all people that reinforced, or if didn’t reinforce, they instructed. But we’ve got a radical ideologue here who does not like this country the way it was founded, the way it was structured. He’s not mistaken in his view of what makes the country great.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I just got a note from a legal eagle buddy of mine who says, “You know, Rush, it just occurred to me listening to you, if Obama even handed one of his friends a joint, or gave them some blow, he’s a felon. The law doesn’t require money to be exchanged. All you need to do is distribute drugs and you have committed a felony.” Now, do we really think Obama never gave weed to one of his buddies or any coke? We know, he admits he passes it around. What are they doing, chonging, whatever it is in the car, they were passing the joint around. Anyway, folks, this guy is out of control. No other way to describe this.
