RUSH: Donna’s back from Beaufort, South Carolina. You were just on the verge of telling us what it was you watched on the Oprah show. We lost your call.
CALLER: Shoot, I don’t watch Oprah, it wasn’t me, that was a girl from North Carolina. (laughing)
RUSH: My goodness.
CALLER: Okay, I want to go back to the comment you made about family doctors getting money for college —
RUSH: Yeah?
CALLER: — from the government —
RUSH: Yeah.
CALLER: — government had to send them where they needed them.
RUSH: That was in the Hillary health care plan.
CALLER: Well, I wanted to go back to 20 years ago when I was a young married woman and —
RUSH: Whoa, whoa, whoa, what are you now?
CALLER: I’m a middle-aged married woman.
RUSH: Okay.
CALLER: Okay. All right, so I’m 45. When I was in my early twenties I got married young and I decided I want to go back to college and neither of our parents had the money, which we were married, so, you know, we were on our own, and we didn’t have the money, but I wanted to go back to college and South Carolina has a program called the South Carolina Teachers Loan Program. At that time it was enough money to pay for a four-year college degree. And I live in a small town of 5,000 people, but there is a major state-run university, Clemson University, 30 miles away from me. So I commuted every day. And the South Carolina Teachers Loan Program, if you made good grades and you taught in a critical geographic area, poor area, or you taught in a critical subject area, mathematics, which I did, secondary mathematics, high school math teacher, then they would pay the loan off, and if you do one or the other it was five years, and they still have this loan program but it’s not enough to pay for the outrageous costs that college is today.
RUSH: By the way, I have to interrupt you here because you just reminded me of something, a story that I had yesterday, didn’t get to, university tuitions all over the place are skyrocketing, and it’s the one thing nobody in government’s doing anything about, complaining about, trying to reverse —
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: — ’cause we have the student loan program, we have this loan program, we have that and so forth — so what eventually happened with you?
CALLER: Well, with me, I was very fortunate to get a job only 20 miles away from my hometown, and they paid for my loan in three years. But because I taught in a critical geographic area and a critical subject area, they paid my loan in three years, so I got a $25,000 education for free. But I taught where they wanted me to, but I was doing what I wanted to do. Now, talking about doctors taking that government money, also with that Teachers Loan Program in South Carolina, I didn’t have to do that. If I had decided when I finished my four-year degree, you know, I don’t want to go into education, I would just have paid it back like a loan. And I’m sure —
RUSH: What is your point here? You took the loan and they told you where you had to teach?
CALLER: Yeah. Well, my point is you make it sound like it’s a problem for someone to take government money, like a doctor who did not have the money to go to college, and then, you know, the government tells you where you got to go to practice your medicine —
RUSH: I have a huge problem with that.
CALLER: No.
RUSH: I have a huge problem with that.
CALLER: No. Rush, if you don’t have the money and that’s the only way you’re going to get your education, and it’s probably only for four or five years that I would imagine that they want you to teach in a certain area — I mean practice medicine in a certain area. Okay, let’s go back to the CEO’s high pay —
RUSH: No, let’s not.
CALLER: Yeah, we are.
RUSH: No, we’re not.
CALLER: Well, the problem there is, my husband had to take a 13% pay cut this year.
RUSH: I’m sure you’re all for that.
CALLER: Oh we’re loving it.
RUSH: You are loving that your husband had a 13% pay cut?
CALLER: No, I’m being facetious and sarcastic.
RUSH: Well, you’re being inconsistent because if you think the government should be able to — (crosstalk) she cannot hear me. If you think the government should tell you where you can work because you get a loan from them then you ought to be happy when they cut your husband’s pay or whoever cuts his pay.
CALLER: Well, the government doesn’t pay my husband’s pay. That’s where you’re wrong. That’s where you’re wrong, Rush.
RUSH: I’m not wrong.
CALLER: The government —
RUSH: I am —
CALLER: What is natural market —
RUSH: I am not wrong. That’s what’s so frustrating about this, I am not wrong. These people, they just won’t listen to me. Snerdley, they just will not listen to me, on top of everything else.
