RUSH: I don’t know if you all heard this. We got an audio sound bite. Obama’s running around on the stump talking about his favorite summer vacation. Have you heard this? Staying at Howard Johnson’s. Here, this is the latest example in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at Kirkwood Community College. Listen to this.

OBAMA: I remember my favorite vacation when I was 11 years old traveling the country with my grandmother and my mom and my sister. And once in a while we’d rent a car, but a bunch of times we’d just take Greyhound Buses. And sometimes we’d take the train and stay at Howard Johnson’s. And, you know, as long as there was a little puddle of a pool, I’d be happy. (audience laughter) And you’d go to the ice machine and the vending machine and buy a soda and get the ice, and you were really excited about it. It wasn’t anything fancy, but you understood that you could spend time with your family, they were cared for, you had a sense of security.

RUSH: Okay. Folks, where did Obama grow up? We think he grew up in Hawaii, right? No, stick with me on this. So we know that there weren’t trains and buses and so forth and Howard Johnson’s in Honolulu, didn’t do that. So this means that Obama and his mom and his sister had to somehow get to the mainland. Now, what he’s trying to do here is goose his lower middle class credentials, right? Now, you gotta have money to get from Hawaii to the mainland, and then, in other examples, he’s talked about they’ve spent a month doing this. Now, who, especially back then, took month-long vacations from Hawaii to the mainland, then got on buses and trains? I’ve yet to see a Howard Johnson’s at a train depot.

He said, “Sometimes we take the train and stay at Howard Johnson’s.” Howard Johnson’s. You all see Blazing Saddles? Howard Johnson’s, 56 flavors, Howard Johnson’s. Mad Men this season had an episode at Howard Johnson’s. Well, it doesn’t have anything to do with this. It all sounds wonderful, but don’t you have to have some money to take a month-long vacation, leave Hawaii — we think that’s where he grew up — then go to the mainland and travel around on trains and buses and so forth, and the big kick is the ice machine at Howard Johnson’s? I’m sorry, folks. I’m not buying it.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Yeah, he did write about it in his book. Month-long vacation, Yellowstone, Disneyland, flew to Seattle, buses and trains, month-long vacation. His mother was the vice president of a bank. His stepfather was an executive at an evil oil company. See, he’s trying to pass himself off as having lower middle class qualifications, all that kind of stuff. It’s just more tomfoolery.
