RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, it was around dinnertime last night and I was in the early stages of show prep for today, and I decided to take a break. I went to my hobby, my tech blogs, and it was stunning. You know, the tech blogs are popularized and populated by young Millennial types, hipsters, wannabe hipsters, think they’re hipsters, and it’s really kind of sad. It’s great exercise in groupthink and propagandizing. I don’t think they’ve ever been taught critical thought. They’ve been propagandized, and there’s a story that the Antarctic ice is melting and there’s real fear among young people, real fear that they are going to die in the next hundred years.

The story says that the Antarctic ice on the western side is breaking off, and this is gonna cause a four-foot rise in the sea level in 100 years. And I’m not kidding, there is abject — my computer monitor almost got wet with tears as I’m reading about this, and yet there’s another story from another news agency that talks about how Antarctic ice is in greater and greater volume than it’s ever been. It’s a dichotomy or a dilemma.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I’m zoned in, folks, on the future of the country. The future of the country is young people, and it’s stunning how propagandized they’ve become. It’s also stunning (very troubling, too) how so many of them, it seems — at least the ones that we come in contact with here via what they write, people who express themselves publicly — lack of any ability to critically think.

They just accept whatever propaganda has been force-fed them in high school and if they went to college and so forth.

But the genuine fear of what’s happening in the Antarctic is real.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I’ll probably get in trouble for this, since I have become villainized in the Drive-By Media. But just based on what I’m seeing, hearing, reading, I actually think that the Millennial generation possibly is the most indoctrinated generation in our country’s history, the most propagandized by the left, from the time they were born, into pre-K all the way through elementary school, high school, and college.

You’re just gonna have to trust me. The abject fear and panic over a glacier split-up in Antarctica is real. Now, here are the details. The first story is from Reuters, and it’s date-lined Oslo. “Vast glaciers in West Antarctica seem to be locked in an irreversible thaw linked to global warming that may push up sea levels for centuries, scientists said on Monday.

“Six glaciers, eaten away from below by a warming of sea waters around the frozen continent, were flowing fast into the Amundsen Sea, according to the report based partly on satellite radar measurements from 1992 to 2011. Evidence shows ‘a large sector of the West Antarctic ice sheet has gone into a state of irreversible retreat’, said lead author Eric Rignot of the University of California, Irvine, and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

“The coastal ends of the glaciers rest on bedrock below sea level…” Anyway, that’s the Reuters story. From The Daily Caller: “Someone let Al Gore know the South Pole isn’t melting.” By the way, these stories are both from yesterday. Well, it says May 12, 2014, here, Michael Bastasch. “Someone let Al Gore know the South Pole isn’t melting.

“Antarctic sea ice coverage reached record levels for April, hitting 3.5 million square miles — the largest on record. It was a cold summer down in Antarctica, with sea ice coverage growing about 43,500 square miles a day, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC).” Now, what are we supposed to make of this?

The Reuters story and everywhere else in the Drive-By Media, the Antarctic is melting, and there’s nothing we can do about it. That seems to be the theme on the tech blogs that I read as a hobby, too. These young people are really scared, folks! I mean, that’s how deeply embedded this entire hoax is with this generation — and, to me, it’s a troubling thing. They’re literally scared!

It’s meaningless.

A four-foot sea level rise in 100 years, and that’s a guess. Nobody knows that that’s gonna happen. Nobody knows if this is normal or abnormal. But you put it in the context of global warming, man-made, all this, and there’s literal fear. Every story written by a young person I read about this was filled with panic, “And there’s nothing we can do about it!”

Every story (panicking), “There not a thing we can do! There’s nothing we can do! Oh, my God! Oh, my God! There’s nothing we can do!” Yeah, well, what did we do to cause it? They think we did! It’s so massive, it’s impossible that we could cause it to melt. Let’s say that Richard Nixon… He was hated. He was reviled. He’s evil.

So everybody hates Nixon. Let’s say Nixon back in 1972 got hold of H.R. Haldeman (who was also hated) and said, “H.R., you know what? I don’t like Antarctica. I don’t like the way it looks on the map. I don’t like that I can’t go there. It’s too cold. I want you to get hold of our best scientists and come up with a way to start making the ice down there melt.”

Okaaaaaaaaay. What would we do to make the ice melt there? Or the North Pole, take your pick. What would we do? There’s nothing we could do. Yet a whole generation of people think that because of the way they’re living — no! They think because of the way their parents and grandparents have lived that this is happening. This is what they’ve been taught; it’s what they believe.

And their solution, every damn one of them, is to hope somebody in government has the answer, even though they all say (sniveling), “There’s nothing we can do about it! It’s irreversible! There’s nothing — nothing — we can do about!” Still, they’re hoping that some central authority somewhere will have the compassion and the power and the ability to do something about it.

Yet, from The Daily Caller, we’re told that the continent is growing. New “ice coverage [is] growing about 43,500 square miles a day, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). April 2014 beats the previous sea-ice coverage record from April 2008 by a whopping 124,000 square miles.” So there are competing stories. There are two different versions of what’s happening down there.

The apocalyptic version is automatically believed because of the propagandizing that that’s taken place. I don’t know. I don’t know if I can convey this. Some of you might be asking, “Rush, what’s the big deal? Young people are young people.” I know, but this is serious because it’s just more pessimism. It’s more, “There’s no future.”

It’s more, “The best days of this country are behind us.” It’s more losing faith in the world and humanity and so forth. That’s not good. It’s not good for them; it’s not good for anybody. We need people with upbeat, positive attitudes about the future — and, you know, honest recognition of what you can and can’t control and then adapt to it, rather than just freak out.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Let me take one more stab at this. Even I, ladies and gentlemen, communicator par excellence, even I sometimes think that I fail to actually convey what I really think about something. Let me take another stab at this whole global warming and how the Millennial generation, not just them, but it seems like every one of them just bought it hook, line, and sinker. It’s a hoax.

Critical thinking, just the application of critical thinking would expose it as a hoax. The application of critical thinking would lead people to question the science of this and to realize that all these claims are just balderdash. But yet embracing it makes them feel good. Embracing the whole notion of climate change makes them feel good, and I can’t help but wonder if one of the reasons for the popularity of this whole climate change hoax is that in the end it justifies a smaller and more Spartan existence, ’cause, after all, since we caused it, we have to pay the price fixing it, and what caused it? Excessive progress. Excessive consumerism, lifestyles increasing, capitalism, pursuing profit, all of these horrible, rotten things are to blame for destroying the planet.

Of course, people can be absolved of this sin by agreeing to support bigger governments and higher taxes and inept concepts like income equality and so forth. In the process, you end up justifying a smaller, more Spartan existence. And thanks to Obama’s economy, that’s what Millennials are gonna be stuck with anyway, is a Spartan existence. I mean, we’ve got economic growth in the negative numbers now. We got 92.5 million Americans not in the labor force, not working. We got more people working part time than ever. We’ve got more people on unemployment for longer than ever. We have more people on food stamps than ever.

We’ve got more people living a Spartan existence in the world’s greatest and most powerful economy than outside the Great Depression and this is said to be, by some in the Regime, the new normal. This is what you’d better get used to. This French Marxist economist, Thomas Piketty, says that the 20 years of economic boom following Reagan was an aberration. That was the exception to the rule. That’s not real. We need to go back to the tax rates and the lifestyles before Reagan got to the White House and started messing everything up. He also said he’s not a Marxist. So he’s a liar, number one, or else he just doesn’t know himself.

So the real economic growth, the real growth in wealth, the absolute positive measurement of practically every economic statistic that matters is an aberration now. It was a fluke, in fact, I think is the word. It was a fluke. And that’s not really the way America is. And it’s never really been the way America was. And so we have to return to this Spartan type lifestyle, which the Obama economy is forcing on everybody. So why not be noble about it, like not having a nice car?

This is the first generation in my memory that is proudly talking about not wanting a car, not caring about cars. And there must be some sort of nobility in this, there’s some sort of, not a superiorist attitude, but a “We’re way ahead of the game in terms of maturation. We know that having a big car, that’s not the answer. That was all phony baloney stuff.” So this noble self-sacrifice for the planet dovetails nicely with not being able to get a job anyway. So turn what is a disastrous set of economic policies that lead to a disastrous economy into some noble, Spartan lifestyle by supporting some cause that that lifestyle will serve to fix. And that may be one of the attractions here. I don’t know.

But it bothers me because, like I say, the eight years of Reagan, the 12 years that followed, they were not an aberration. They were not a fluke. They were an example of what can be. They were real. Flukes don’t last 20 years. Accidents like that don’t happen and last for 20 years. We want the best for everybody on this program. We want everybody to do well, to maximize their potential, to use their God-given freedom to be whatever they can be, the best they can be, and that doesn’t seem to be part of their thinking. All that seems to be impossible. It really breaks my heart, folks, when I come across attitudes like this. So unnecessary.

And that’s why I started asking, “How did it happen?” And I have to look at education. Where did this inculcation of propaganda start? This is the first generation I’ve known that has lost faith in the country. They’re openly saying that not only have they lost faith in the country, they’ve lost faith in themselves because they haven’t succeeded like their parents did or grandparents or what have you. It’s problem. And it’s being exploited for political power by the Democrat Party. Anyway, it just troubles me and I don’t quite know how else to say it.

It’s rooted in my desire that this country be great; that requires individual greatness; it requires the pursuit of excellence. It requires a whole bunch of things that have seemingly been weeded out of people by the education system in this country. It’s a troubling thing. I mean, you’ve all got kids and grandkids that are gonna grow up. What kind of country do you want them to have and be part of? What kind of opportunity do you want them to have? What kind of freedom do you want them to have?

All that matters to me. We all want to have a legacy. We all want our lives to be meaningful. We all want to leave some vestige of our time on earth that’s positive as an example for others. And knowing how easy it is to get caught up in pessimism, that’s easy. It’s easy to get caught up in negativism. It’s easy to get caught up in “can’t.” Everybody can do it. You don’t need to read a book to learn how to fail; we all know how. But the lack of positive, inspiring, uplifting things, I mean, a story about the Antarctic and a piece of ice breaking off can scare people to death and think that the world is over? Man, that, to me, is a testament to how effective all of this propaganda has been.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: No, no, no. This Antarctic melting ice story is everywhere, and in every story it’s past the point of return. “‘Past The Point Of No Return:’ An Antarctic Ice Sheet’s Slow Collapse.” It’s nothing we can do anything about! “Collapse of Antarctic Ice Sheet Underway, and Unstoppable, But Will Take Centuries.” That is the Washington Post.

Here’s the story that isn’t everywhere in The Daily Caller: “Global Cooling: Antarctic Sea Ice Coverage Continues To Break Records.” So you have one group that’s come out and said Antarctic ice is breaking up and it’s melting and it’s gonna be four degrees hotter in a hundred years and there’s nothing we can do to stop it, and that is automatically believed and received with panic.

We forget the group just last winter. Remember the fun we had with this? There was a group of people on a boat, a ship, and they went down there. They were on their way down to Antarctica to “prove” that it was melting, and they got trapped in the ice that they didn’t know was there. There was so much more ice than they thought was there, that they got trapped.

So did two icebreakers, including a ChiCom icebreaker!

They got trapped down there trying to rescue these people. That was just last year. It took three icebreakers to get down there and rescue these global warming people who went down there to prove that the place was melting, just last year. So it doesn’t take much to cause this panic and move the needle on this.

The pessimistic story automatically — and I know that’s not new. Don’t misunderstand. That isn’t new. Pessimism’s automatically believed. But there are two stories today, and there’s only one of them that’s everywhere, and the reason is because this is a political issue and it fits right in with the Democrat Party’s political agenda, and that’s why it is everywhere.

RUSH: Here is Lee, in south New Jersey as we head to the phones. I’m glad you waited. Welcome to the program. Hi.

CALLER: Hello, Rush. I’ve been with you since 1990.

RUSH: Well, I have to take that up with Snerdley. I didn’t know we had anybody on hold for that long.

CALLER: Well, yes, I have been… I…

RUSH: (chuckling

CALLER: You know, my subject is we were talking a minute ago — what, an hour ago — about these people were raising all this heck about global warming and the pollution that we are creating to create it. It seems like no one wants to bridge (sic) the subject on their cities that they look up to or their systems they look up to, the socialist cities of Mexico City and all the cities in China that have pollution clouds hanging over them and you can’t see two city blocks.

RUSH: Okay, so your question is why aren’t these people who are scared to death of what’s happening in Antarctica going to the ChiComs and demanding they stop polluting, or why arenÂ’t they going down to Mexico and demanding they stop polluting? That’s your point, your question?

CALLER: Yes.

RUSH: All right, what do you think the answer is?

CALLER: Well, when the [Berlin] Wall went down they found lakes of chemical waste that would eat your hand off if you stuck into it. Nobody’s saying anything about that, either.

RUSH: Well, why?

CALLER: That’s the reason I’m calling. I got yelling at the radio, “Why isn’t something be done here or said here?” Of course, I can think of all kinds of socialist/leftist excuses.

RUSH: Because —

CALLER: I was just wondering if they got anything to say about it.

RUSH: You’ve gotta look at the way they’ve been taught, the way they’ve been educated, and they have been taught that capitalism is the great polluter. They’ve been taught that capitalism is the great destroyer. They’ve been taught that capitalism is the great fraud. Capitalism is the source of the greatest inequality and inequity. Socialism and communism.

Why, those are laudable efforts to get it right. Why, those are really cool efforts and ideas to try to make everybody equal and everybody experience fairness with no discrimination and so forth. It’s what they’ve been taught. They’ve been taught that the only reason socialism has failed is ’cause the wrong people have been trying it, since the beginning of time.

They’ve also been told that it’s failed ’cause there hasn’t been enough money thrown at it. So China is not the problem. The ChiComs, actually, on occasion get some credit. The United States is considered to be the focus of evil in the modern world. It’s frustrating. This is the fruits of our education system. Not just the United States, but capitalism.

Capitalism’s comprised of what?

“These evil corporations, evil CEOs!”

What are they doing?

“Why, they’re polluting! They’re drilling for oil. They’re fracking! They’re making killer drugs. Why, these CEOs are killing their customers! CEOs in the pursuit of profit are killing people and maiming people and injuring people and mistreating people!”

This is what they’ve been taught.

Therefore, Mexico City, ChiComs, Havana, all these other polluting agents?

Nah.

They don’t hold a candle to the evil of the United States.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Remember, now, if socialist countries pollute, it’s only for our own good. It all falls back to intentions, folks. It all falls back to motive. Well, socialism is trying to help people. It’s trying to make everybody equal. It’s trying to make sure that there’s equality. And if there’s pollution, it’s okay ’cause they’re trying. That’s the absolution. That’s how you escape being blamed. That’s why Obama’s never gonna be held accountable for anything. He didn’t want health care to fall apart. He wanted everybody to have free health care. It just didn’t work out.

To us, they attach ill motive, rotten intent. Well, look at David Koch. David Koch donates a hundred million dollars to a hospital in New York, and the beneficiaries show up and protest it. You know what they say? “He doesn’t really mean it. He doesn’t really mean it. He’s really just a hate-filled bigot, and he knows it, and he’s trying to make sure nobody else sees who he really is, so he gives a hundred million dollars. He doesn’t really mean it.” And so it doesn’t count.

Obama or Gore can give $235 a year on their tax return to charity and they got the biggest hearts and they got the biggest intentions.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Today we talked about the young Millennials and their abject, I mean, fear and panic over the report that there’s nothing we can do about Antarctica breaking up. And I know even now after 25 years, some of you think that I overdo this, maybe exaggerate it a little bit. And I caution you. Don’t think that. I am Mr. Mainstream. The rest of everybody else has gone kooky extreme, either on the left or right. I am Mr. Mainstream. And here’s evidence. At a White House press briefing this afternoon a reporter asked Jay Carney this question: “The French foreign minister dramatically said the world has 500 days to avoid climate chaos. I’m wondering, what does your countdown clock say?”

CARNEY: The view of the science that climate change is upon us and the effects and impacts of climate change are being felt today. WeÂ’ve laid out a comprehensive strategy aimed at helping communities around the country prepare for the effects of climate change and address climate change in the future to try to mitigate future impacts. The National Climate Assessment that was released last week I think paints a pretty stark picture about the fact that these impacts are already here, in some cases theyÂ’ve arrived sooner than expected, sooner than scientists expected and that only reinforces the need to approach this in the kind of comprehensive way that the president has laid out.

RUSH: You wonder why they’re panicked? You wonder why the kids are scared? This is what they think is the final authority. This is the source authority, the White House, the president’s press secretary. There is no foremost authority than this guy, in their view. Their parents don’t count for anything. Their parents don’t know anything. This, the president, the UN, the government. That’s what bugs me. To these people, the government’s got all the answers, the government never lies, and the government’s out for everybody being protected and treated fairly and equally and all this. The government’s an abject failure at everything it does.

So you have this French oddball who shows up and says, “Yeah, we got a guy in our country that says 500 days, 500 days and that’s it! We’ve only got 500 days! What is your countdown?” And Carney says pretty much the same. It’s deteriorating faster than anybody knows. You wonder why they’re scared. ‘Cause they believe this claptrap. This, to me, is the height of irresponsibility.

Folks, there hasn’t been any global warming for 17 years. Zilch, zero, nada. This is why it’s not called global warming anymore. This is why they call it climate change. And now they’ve even got a new term, I’ve forgotten what they call it, climate deterioration or climate whatever, but there isn’t any warming from the official temperature recorder places.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: One more sound bite, 15, Friday — we have substitute broadcast engineer today whose name is Friday, in case you’re trying to follow what I’m talking about. Brian Williams intro’ing the NBC Nightly News last night.

WILLIAMS: Two groups of scientists reported today, based on close and constant examination, large parts of the western Antarctica ice sheet appears to have collapsed. The area shown here in red, scientists say further degradation is almost certainly unstoppable. They say global warming is accelerating the pace of disintegration. NASA’s lead polar ice researcher said, quote, “This is really happening. There’s nothing to stop it now.” These scientists say the ice sheet can add 13 feet to global sea levels, slowly at first and over the next 100 years or so.

RUSH: Thirteen. Gosh. It was originally four feet yesterday afternoon. Now it’s 13 feet. And you note, there’s nothing we can do to stop it. Okay, so we can keep driving our SUVs then, huh? And we can drop all these policies, because we can’t stop it. It’s gotten beyond the point of no return now. We can’t do anything. And yet at the White House this French reporter, “I got a guy, 500 days, that’s all we’ve got.” I was thinking the other day, we had the story I was able to find in the New York Times a hundred years ago. Well, almost, early 1900s, same, exact story. Global warming, climate change, destroying the planet, had to act now. It’s just an old part of the Democrat Party playbook and it comes to life every now and then.

Just remember, a year ago all of these great scientists traveling to the Antarctic to prove global warming getting stuck in ice that their maps didn’t say was there. They ran into ice way before they thought there was any. It took three ice breakers to rescue ’em and get ’em out, helicopters. A ChiCom ice breaker and another one got caught up in it, too. Just a year ago. But in that year, man, it’s really gotten hot down there ’cause now it’s collapsing and there’s nothing we can do. There’s no stopping it now, and all of this is the height of irresponsibility. It’s not journalism. It’s simply liberal Democrat Party activism disguised as news.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: This is Andrew in Birmingham, Alabama. I’m glad you waited. I appreciate your patience. Hello, sir.

CALLER: Hey, Rush. Millennial dittos from Birmingham.

RUSH: Thank you very much, sir.

CALLER: It’s an honor to speak with you. Hey, I’ve been a private math teacher for 14 years now. One of my favorite algebra questions to give kids is, “Let’s say we made a global effort to melt the polar ice caps,” and I ask them to calculate the amount of heat required.

RUSH: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait just a minute. I love this. This is my point. I made this point. If Richard Nixon was sick and tired of looking at how big Antarctica is on the map and told his secretary of defense melt it, go down there and melt it…? That’s what you’ve done.

CALLER: Yes. You first calculate the volume of it to find the weight, and it turns out that there’s 26.5-thousand-billion cubic meters of ice down there, and the specific heat required to raise the temperature of all that ice one degree would take 51 trillion-trillion joules of energy just to raise the temperature of all of it one degree Celsius. Not even to melt it, just to raise the temperature one degree.

So I tell ’em, “Let’s go big or go home. Let’s nuke it. What’s the largest nuclear weapon that man has ever created? The Tsar Bomb that Russia created throws out 50 megatons of energy.” Basically, in short, it would take detonating 243,000 of those simultaneously to raise the temperature of all the ice on Antarctica one degree Celsius. It cannot be done. It’s impossible to melt the polar ice caps.

RUSH: I want to go back through this. You’d need 243,000 50-megaton nukes at the same time to raise the temperature of the ice in Antarctica one degree Celsius?

CALLER: Exactly.

RUSH: Well, who says we couldn’t do it? We coulda done it if Reagan was president.

CALLER: (laughing)

RUSH: He had his finger on the button. Everybody knows that.

CALLER: Okay, well, here. So say you did. Say you did manage to melt it. Guess what? Next winter, it’s gonna be minus-70 degrees Fahrenheit for six months straight. It’s gonna refreeze again. You would have to do that every year to melt it all.

RUSH: Why? Why is it gonna freeze again?

CALLER: Because it’s minus-70 degrees.

RUSH: You mean down there?

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: But wouldn’t 236,000 nukes kind of warm it up down there?

CALLER: I mean, I guess it could, but… (chuckles) Is there enough uranium and plutonium to make that many bombs? I don’t know. (laughing) Where would you put ’em all?

RUSH: It depends how far along the Iranians are.

CALLER: Right. Well, I just praise the Lord that He Himself (laughing) made us —

RUSH: Well, you know, this —

CALLER: — powerful that we can’t even melt it ourselves even if we tried. I mean, he saved us from ourselves.

RUSH: That has been my thinking. You know, during the days of the ozone hole it was said that spray aerosol cans were causing it. During the old days of the Rush to Excellence Tour, I used to make the point that if Ronald Reagan wanted every Democrat to get skin cancer and ordered Cap Weinberger to put a giant ozone hole over every city with a Democrat, what would he have to do?

You couldn’t. All of these things that they claim in the climate and the atmosphere that they think our improved lifestyles are causing, it’s impossible to do. The vanity on the one hand of humanity amazes me, and then the insecurity and paranoia on the other hand at the same time amazes me.

On the one hand, they think we are so awesomely powerful that we could destroy the Antarctic in 500 days — or save it. On the other hand, they think we’re no different than a rat or a mouse or a pig if you talk to the animal rights people. But it’s amazingly easy, apparently, to make people believe that we can do all of this, and it’s the absence of critical thinking that makes it possible.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I’d have to ask our official climatologist, Dr. Roy Spencer, about this, but it’s all over the place that the Antarctic is melting today, and it’s nothing we can stop. There is nothing we can do. Now, when, in the last year, has it been above freezing down there? I suppose what they’re gonna tell us is, “No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! That’s not the reason.

“It’s the air temperature, Mr. Limbaugh. This shows how stupid you are. It’s the seawater temperatures in the little inlets and caves beneath the ice. That’s what’s warming, and that’s what’s melting the ice. We can’t see it. It’s in these little coves and things.” Okay. So the water in the South Pole is warm enough — it’s over 32 — to melt enough ice to cause Antarctica, the western part of it, to start splitting in half.

Now (sigh), I don’t see how it’s possible, but it doesn’t matter. Those questions are never even brought up. They’re not even raised, they’re not even asked, they’re not even considered. All you need is somebody with the word “scientist” attached to them — and a white coat, maybe — or somebody that looks through telescopes or a microscope to say something, and it’s automatically believed.

It’s something you can’t take the politics out of. There’s a political agenda attached to all of this, and the political agenda is grow government, make government more powerful, and give government control over the way people live, because only government can stop this destruction. If you leave people alone, they are naturally reprobates and they’re naturally gonna destroy their environment.

They’re naturally gonna beat up their kids. They’re naturally going to steal from each other, naturally gonna kill people. We need government policing everything everybody does and thinks, and what scares me is not that Antarctica may be splitting and melting. It’s that so many people have become sheep and bought into this. But apparently there are enough of them who have.
