There\u2019s a big gala birthday party, a 50th birthday party for Moochelle Obama tomorrow night in the White House, and guests have been told “to eat before you come.” The etiquette experts contacted by the Washington Post think that this is cheap, it\u2019s rude, and…<\/p>\n

<\/a>Well, they don\u2019t think it\u2019s rude, but it\u2019s really curious. “‘I don\u2019t think it\u2019s rude, but I do think it\u2019s a little … different than what people are used to. How\u2019s that for putting it delicately?\u2019 joked Lizzie Post, great-great-granddaughter of Emily Post and co-author of Great Get-Togethers: Casual Gatherings and Elegant Parties at Home.” They\u2019re being nice. This is rude.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a big gala, 50th birthday party.<\/a> This is not like somebody\u2019s 32nd birthday. It\u2019s her 50th birthday at the White House. “Eat before you come!” I\u2019ll tell you why. It\u2019s because the Obamas are tightwads. They are. They can\u2019t use taxpayer money. They can\u2019t use taxpayer money for this. That\u2019s why they\u2019re doing this. During the break, CNN… These media people are such — I don\u2019t know — suck-ups. <\/p>\n

I mean, I don\u2019t know how these people have self-respect. So they\u2019re doing this Michelle Obama “redefining what it means to be 50.” What do you mean, redefining what it is to be 50? And then they had pictures of her in some ball gowns and, you know, dressed to the nines and whatever, holding up her AARP card. Now, what in the hell is she redefining? This is just pure suck-up, and these are journalists doing this. <\/p>\n

I don\u2019t have any problem with her turning 50, but what trend is she setting here? Except throwing a party with an invitation saying: Oh, by the way, eat before you come because we\u2019re not serving you anything. Michelle Obama, redefining…? Folks, don\u2019t misunderstand here. I\u2019m commenting on the sycophantic, the pure suck-up of the media here. It\u2019s just so blatant, it\u2019s so unprofessional, and it is sickening. These people are not kings and Queens, for crying out loud — and they\u2019re certainly not redefining anything, at least it not for me, not in a positive sense.<\/line><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
