CALLER: Hi. Oh, my gosh. I can\u2019t believe I\u2019m talking to you. I love it! I love your book so bad. My mom got it for me, and I listened to it straight. I just really wanted to know if you\u2019re making another one.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes. At some point I hope to be able to tell you that we\u2019re going to do another one. But I can\u2019t do that yet. I don\u2019t want to give anybody a false impression. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: But we hope so, Kevin because so many people like you are really enjoying this. We\u2019re getting mail from people just like you, e-mails for the horse, Liberty, and some of the other characters. It is just great. I can\u2019t tell you. I mean, Kevin I am so happy that your mom got this for you and that she got you the audio version. That\u2019s what you\u2019ve been listening to?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. Yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s incredible, \u2019cause that\u2019s 4-1\/2 hours. See, and he already wants more. Already wants more. Kevin, I\u2019ll tell you what. “Dear Rush: My seven-year-old son asked me to read your book to him for the third night in a row. Reading has always been a battle before now. Several times I stopped because I thought he\u2019d fallen asleep and he pulled his head back up and said, ‘Why did you stop?'” <\/line><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/map>\n<\/line>\n

And we got another cute one. An 11-year-old wrote in to Mr. Revere, an 11-year-old named Aiden, and asked if Rush Revere could have me give a shout-out to his father, Mark G. He said it would just make his dad\u2019s world if I could give a shout out to Mark G. And so, Aiden, I wanted you to know that Revere got a hold of me, and I\u2019m shouting out now to Mark G. <\/p>\n

I\u2019ll tell you, folks, everything about this that I hoped would happen is happening. Taking the values that we believe in on this program, the love of country, the patriotism, to a whole new age group. The mission — and that\u2019s what there is attached to this — this is not just do a book to do a book because I\u2019ve done that. It actually has a mission and a purpose: to expand, as they say inside baseball, the demo. But it really is to take the truth to young people who may be hearing things that aren\u2019t true about American history and the founding of the country. <\/p>\n

To find out so many of these kids like this book and their parents do is just… I can\u2019t tell you what a great feeling it is. And I want to remind you of this. You know, we\u2019re coming up on the birthday of the Marine Corps. I just love the Marine Corps and the entire US military, but we do want to say happy birthday to the Marine Corps. We are sponsors of the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, which is a tremendous organization, and one of our objectives is to raise awareness of what they do, and we have a section of every bottle of Two If By Tea dedicated to MC-LEF, the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation.<\/a> Your purchases of Two If By Tea over the years have been extremely helpful and are sincerely appreciated. <\/line><\/a><\/line><\/p>\n

Now, the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation raises money to provide college scholarships to the children of Marines killed in action. And in big events like 9\/11 or the Oklahoma City bombing, they try to expand to other branches of the service, not just Marine Corps. And it\u2019s almost a direct pass-through. I mean, almost every dime donated gets distributed. It\u2019s not like some charities where there\u2019s a 20 or 30% overhead. Nobody\u2019s making a living off of MC-LEF. It is really a pass-through. It\u2019s run by former Marines who have all been touched in one way or another by their military service. So we\u2019re happy to be associated with that. This has just been a wonderful thing. <\/p>\n

And, finally, we learned yesterday — you know, we\u2019re number one on the New York Times list, the children\u2019s list, for November the 17th. But we also learned Amazon has this list of the top selling books of the year. And after essentially a week and a half, we are at number 14. A children\u2019s book, which it\u2019s actually not just a children\u2019s book. As the fan mail we\u2019re getting suggests, the parents are reading it. It\u2019s exactly what was intended. Parents would read the book to their kids. Share the experience. Grandparents would do the same thing with their grandkids. In just a week and a half this book is already the 14th best-selling book for the year on Amazon. <\/line><\/a><\/line><\/p>\n

It\u2019s just mind-boggling for us. We are so appreciative. We\u2019re so grateful and thankful for you making that happen. I can\u2019t describe how it feels. And this last caller, Kevin, who liked the audio version, we\u2019re working on doing something. I can\u2019t announce this yet, but somebody here had a great idea, to air a little bit of it on a particular broadcast. Not all of it, of course. But it is a body of work I am really proud of. The audio version of Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims is about a four and a half hour listen, if you take it from start to finish. I did it over I think four or five days and then a couple days after that for pickups and little pronunciation fixes and that kind of thing. <\/p>\n

But we\u2019ve found that in the actual brick-and-mortar bookstores, whereas the display for Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims, the book, in many places it\u2019s great, it\u2019s right inside the front door. The audio section of the store is way off in one of the farthest corners you can get. You have to ask, unless you\u2019re a veteran of these bookstores and know where to go. But that is something, too, that we\u2019re just ecstatically proud of as well, and it\u2019s doing remarkably well, too, on the sales side. So we\u2019re just really gratified, folks. We cannot express our gratitude and thanks enough. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi. This is Jenner. Oh, wait, I just noticed here that you\u2019re 14. I just saw that. I didn\u2019t have any glasses on and now I see it. You\u2019re 14 and you want to talk about the book. Oh, cool.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yep. Yeah, your new book. Yeah, I love it. I love the detail you put into it. I just got to the part where Liberty runs to the telephone to get to the New World, and everything just keeps getting better and better.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, I am so happy that you like it. All of you that have said that, you\u2019re making my day.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, it\u2019s one of my favorite books I\u2019ve ever read, and to know that you wrote it, it\u2019s just awesome. My mom… I\u2019m like a Rush Baby. I listened to you my whole life. My mom is always listening to you on the radio, and I just love you.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wow! Wow. Forteen-year-olds. Do you attend public school?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m in the new Corner Canyon High School. They just built it here in Draper. It\u2019s a beautiful high school, really big.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, where did you attend elementary school, first, second, third grade? Where did you go?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Summit Academy. It was a private school.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay. Where, let me ask you, when you learned about the Pilgrims —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah?<\/p>\n

RUSH: — were you told the truth about it when you were in school?<\/line><\/a><\/line><\/p>\n

CALLER: You know, there are a lot of teachers out there that are just trying to feed you a bunch of crap. I tried to listening to it, but my history teacher last year really was talking to me about the right things. He would always just say the right stuff and I think he was just taking a good side in it and everything.<\/p>\n

RUSH: So what you\u2019re reading in the book, is it new to you? Have you not heard this story of the Pilgrims before, or have you heard it before and you just like the way it\u2019s presented?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, I\u2019ve known about William Bradford and all those other men, and like you said, I just really like how you wrote it, just how it\u2019s pretty easy to understand. It\u2019s not complicated.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, that\u2019s great. You\u2019re validating something that we all thought, and that is the history. I\u2019ll tell you something, Jenner, the older you get — and you got a long way to go, but the older you get — the more meaningful good, old-fashioned, dryball history is gonna be to you. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Yep. Yep.<\/p>\n

RUSH: When you\u2019re young, history? Ah, it\u2019s just not that important. So if somebody can convey the importance of history to you in a story, in a format that you find interesting, then it\u2019s something that you can actually learn and enjoy learning and not feel like it\u2019s being forced down your throat because it\u2019s just something you have to do.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, exactly.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And that\u2019s what we tried to do here. I just — I really — I think storytelling is one of the best ways of communicating and persuading at the same time.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: The fact that you like it is just great. You\u2019re making my day here.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. My mom pre-ordered it and she sent you an e-mail about how she just got a new copy and how she\u2019s always listening to you and loves you, and I can\u2019t get over how much I like it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, you made my day, as I say. I can\u2019t thank you enough. I want to send you a signed copy, too. I mean, I\u2019ve sent everybody else that\u2019s called one today, so I may as well spread it around and be a good socialist about it. So I\u2019ll send you a copy.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I can\u2019t tell you, folks, how gratifying it is when I hear from young people about how they like the book, \u2019cause that\u2019s the point, because no matter what they think, history is important. It is crucial. And particularly for Americans, it is crucially important that all Americans understand the founding of this country and how it happened, and why, and what the term “American exceptionalism” means. What does it really mean? Why, how did this country become what it is? Why is it unique from other places in the world? Why should people be proud of it, actively, daily proud to be Americans. And that\u2019s why this book was written, to reach people at a young age and get them interested and thinking along these lines, take the values of the program here that we all believe.
