RUSH: Holy cow! I just was made aware of this. Do you remember the name Elizabeth O\u2019Bagy? She\u2019s the 26-year-old woman advising McCain and others, McCain and Kerry, on the Syrian “rebels.” We discussed her last week. You remember now. I couldn\u2019t believe that a 26-year-old woman, with that little experience, was a prime adviser on our decision to ally with the rebels in Syria. Well, guess what? <\/p>\n

“The Syria researcher whose Wall Street Journal op-piece was cited by Secretary of State John Kerry and Sen. John McCain during congressional hearings about the use of force has been fired from the Institute for the Study of War for lying about having a PhD, the group announced on Wednesday. ‘The Institute for the Study of War has learned and confirmed that, contrary to her representations, Ms. Elizabeth O\u2019Bagy does not in fact have a PhD degree from Georgetown University,\u2019 the institute said in a statement.<\/p>\n

“‘ISW has accordingly terminated Ms. O\u2019Bagy\u2019s employment, effective immediately.\u2019 O\u2019Bagy told Politico\u2019s Kate Brannen in an interview Monday that she had submitted and defended her dissertation and was waiting for Georgetown University to confer her degree. O\u2019Bagy\u2019s Aug. 30 op-ed piece for the Journal, ‘On the Front Lines of Syria\u2019s Civil War,\u2019 was cited by both Kerry and McCain last week. McCain read from the piece last Tuesday to Kerry, calling it ‘an important op-ed by Dr. Elizabeth O\u2019Bagy.\u2019<\/p>\n

“The next day, Kerry also brought up the piece before a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing and described it as a ‘very interesting article\u2019 and recommended that members read it. But the piece had also come under fire for misrepresenting her affiliations. Originally the op-ed only listed O\u2019Bagy, 26, as only ‘a senior analyst\u2019 at the ISW, later adding a clarification that disclosed her connection to a Syrian rebel advocacy group.” That wasn\u2019t immediately known. She had ties to the rebels in Syria. <\/p>\n

\"large\"She\u2019s writing an op-ed, at age 26, and these… She has to be attractive. That\u2019s the only explanation for this. Gotta be. These old farts. She has to be attractive. We\u2019re looking at two Jurassic Park dinosaur senators and a secretary of state taking the advice of a 26-year-old who… What is that? This is like the fake journalists that we\u2019ve had at the Washington Post. Now we\u2019ve got a fake scholar, and it turns out she has been a primary adviser to members of our government on allying with the rebels in Syria, who are at this moment threatening to kill Christians if they don\u2019t convert to Islam. <\/line><\/p>\n

Elizabeth O\u2019Bagy. We mentioned last week that this woman, O\u2019Bagy, told the New York Times a few months ago that the rebels were very sectarian, very religious — that is, extremists. She been all over the ballpark. This woman apparently… Well, I will just leave it at she\u2019s not who she represented herself as being. But how does that even explain it? What are these guys doing taking adviser advice from someone so young, who\u2019s lying about her scholarship and didn\u2019t properly represent her ties to one of the factions in the uprising in Syria? <\/p>\n

Well, actually, you know, that\u2019s true. John Kerry is the same guy who takes Albert Brooks\u2019 joke tweet last Friday and uses it and it becomes a gaffe that ends up becoming US policy. (interruption) You didn\u2019t hear this? (interruption) No, no. You didn\u2019t hear this? Kerry? The reason why we\u2019re doing what we\u2019re doing in Syria with these chemical weapons is Kerry was just speaking “rhetorically.” He said, “Syria will never do this but what they really ought to do is just give up their chemical weapons to the international community.” <\/p>\n

Vladimir Putin said, “You know what? That\u2019s a great idea,” and Assad said, “You know what? We\u2019ll do that,” and Kerry said, “No, no! I was just kidding. I was just speaking rhetoric.” The State Department said, “He didn\u2019t really mean that. He was just speaking rhetorically,” but it was too late. The Russians and Syrians said, “That\u2019s a great idea.” So then Obama and Kerry do a 180 and make it look like it was their policy all along. <\/p>\n

So a gaffe made by Kerry, stolen from a comedian who\u2019d put it on Twitter on Friday, Albert Brooks, becomes US policy. That leads to that empty speech from last night. By the way, we have clips. If you didn\u2019t see the speech, you may not even know what I\u2019m talking about. Here, folks. If you didn\u2019t hear Obama\u2019s speech last night, I don\u2019t have the whole 15 minutes. You know how you can do time lapse photography? This is time lapse of the speech. This is about 2-1\/2 minutes of what it took Obama 15 minutes to say. <\/p>\n

RUSH: So that\u2019s basically it if you missed it last night. So this is a comedy of errors. Elizabeth O\u2019Bagy is a fraud, and she has been a primary influence in our policy, at least with John Kerry and McCain and the State Department and the Senate.
