RUSH: I told you yesterday<\/a> that tomorrow we\u2019ve got the 50th anniversary of the Martin Luther King March on Washington. You know, a bunch of people asked, “What do you think Obama\u2019s gonna say?” They said, “He\u2019s not down for the struggle.”<\/p>\n

I told you yesterday, a bunch of Democrats have been telling me privately a lot of things. I shared a lot of it with you yesterday. I\u2019ve had some Democrat African-American leaders tell me they\u2019re really not all that comfortable with Obama as the lead at the MLK festivities \u2019cause he\u2019s not down for the struggle. He does not have that in his roots. They think he\u2019s gonna do what he always does, and that\u2019s turn the occasion into something about him, and his presidency. <\/p>\n

And I agree. <\/p>\n

So here we have the Los Angeles Times today, “King Anniversary Puts Spotlight on Obama.” That\u2019s the headline. Right here it is. You don\u2019t even need to read the newspapers anymore, folks, because I will tell you what\u2019s going to be in them the day before they are published. It\u2019s by Christi Parsons and Kathleen Hennessey: “King Anniversary Puts Spotlight on Obama.” And the subhead is, “And Civil Rights.” Hee-hee-hee-hee. Right there it is. <\/p>\n

The second page of the story says he will be joined by Clinton, Carter, and… No, it doesn\u2019t say this! It doesn\u2019t point that out. No, it doesn\u2019t say that Clinton and Carter and The Oprah are gonna speak. Here\u2019s The Politico<\/a>: “Obama, Race and Class.” That\u2019s their headline the day before Obama headlines the Martin Luther King 50th anniversary shindig at the Lincoln Memorial. They say in their story, Obama\u2019s speech is about “refocusing the political conversation ahead of this fall\u00c2\u2019s budget battles.” <\/p>\n

What did I tell you? It\u2019s incredible. It\u2019s the 50th anniversary of “I hope my kids are not judged by the color of their skin but rather by the content of their character.” And Obama, the headliner, is gonna turn the event into a conversation on the budget battle, a la 2012. He\u2019s also, according to The Politico, going to tell the assembled teeming throng that he\u2019s got their back and he\u2019s going to attack the wealthy. Okay, now, wait a minute. <\/p>\n

The Politico then says that “economics is a safe way to talk about race.” So the president\u2019s got clear sailing. He can use the Martin Luther King 50th anniversary event to refocus the conversation on the budget battle that\u2019s coming up at the end of September. He\u2019s gonna tell the crowd that he\u2019s got their back and he\u2019s gonna attack the wealthy, and then they say at The Politico that the economics, that\u2019s “a safe way to talk race,” meaning you can engage in racism if you do it in the context of class envy and class warfare. <\/p>\n

Economic justice. Social justice. He\u2019s gonna attack the wealthy. Well, he better attack the attendees because I have a list of people here in my formerly nicotine-stained fingers. You want to hear who\u2019s gonna be there? The Oprah: Multimillionaire back woman (billionaire, we should say). Jamie Foxx: Millionaire, black male actor. Forest Whitaker. I\u2019d have to assume this guy\u2019s made a million. Yeah, Forest Whitaker, Soledad O\u2019Brien, Hill Harper, Bill Clinton (millionaire, he tells us every week) Jimmy Carter, millionaire. <\/p>\n

John Lewis? He\u2019s still poor. He only makes 174 grand. (interruption) We don\u2019t know. John Lewis\u2019 job has been representing Georgia. I think it\u2019s safe to say John Lewis not a millionaire. LeAnn Rimes, BeBe Winans. I mean, it looks to me like everybody that\u2019s gonna be up there is a millionaire, an African-American millionaire, and that crowd is going to claim that they have everything in common with the audience that will be there. <\/p>\n

This is why I have been told private privately that people are not happy with what this thing is going to be tomorrow — on the Democrat side and the African-American side. Really. You know, Martin Luther King, for those of you that weren\u2019t around 50 years ago, you talk about somebody that was transformational? To take the 50th anniversary of that event and to convert it, hijack it into something to advance your political agenda?<\/p>\n

That\u2019s as bad as wedding crashing, funeral crashing that the Clintons are famous for. This is really unseemly, if you ask me. I mean, this is close to these guys doing their Miley Cyrus impersonation. This is not cool. “King Anniversary Puts a spotlight on Obama”? “Economics is a safe way to talk about race,” meaning economics, grants one permission via class warfare and class envy to spout racism, which is what we\u2019re gonna hear. <\/p>\n

So there\u2019s that. I had a friend of mine send me some excerpts of Martin Luther King\u2019s speech 50 years ago. There are four of them. He said, “You know, Rush, when I read what King said, I am reminded more of things you say than things Obama says,” which I took as a great compliment. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
