RUSH: Thank you. Thanks, Chris, very much.<\/p>\n

CALLER: You\u2019re welcome. Hey, I just wondering if you would consider calling the winners of your Two If By Tea <\/a>contest live during your show, and that way the rest of your audience, your listeners, could share in the excitement and joy of —<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

RUSH: Now, that\u2019s intriguing. Here\u2019s what we would have to do. There is a regulation from the FCC which says you cannot put somebody on the air without their permission. So, as contest rules, we would have to change them and we would have to say, “Everybody entering understand that if you win, you might be called live on the air.” And even then it\u2019s kind of dicey. Then the second thing is, we call with a blocked number because we don\u2019t want our number getting out there, and a lot of people don\u2019t pick up blocked numbers, Chris, they let \u2019em ring to voice mail. <\/p>\n

So I don\u2019t know how exciting it would be just to hear us leave the message on somebody\u2019s voice mail that they\u2019ve won. Now, if we could guarantee that every winner would give us permission to put \u2019em on the air, and if we could guarantee that every winner would pick up the phone, but we can\u2019t, they\u2019re not gonna know it\u2019s us calling. And if we call them in advance and say, “You\u2019ve won, you\u2019re gonna get called sometime later today or tomorrow, be ready for it,” then they\u2019re not gonna be spontaneously excited and the full effect of it you wouldn\u2019t hear. <\/p>\n

But it\u2019s a great idea. It\u2019s a great thought. Back in the old days when there weren\u2019t these kind of regulations, this is how radio contest winners were identified all the time. They were called live, on the air so the audience could share in the excitement and hear it.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m flattered that it\u2019s something that you would find interesting, \u2019cause I would venture to say half the people do not believe that it is me and Kathryn calling.
