RUSH: This is from NBC News: “A confidential Justice Department memo concludes that the US government can order the killing of American citizens if they are believed to be ‘senior operational leaders\u2019 of al-Qaida or ‘an associated force\u2019 — even if there is no intelligence indicating they are engaged in an active plot to attack the US.”<\/p>\n

It is kind of open-ended. So American citizens can be killed simply based upon suspicions, a belief not even based on intelligence. That\u2019s what I just read here. I\u2019ll read it again. “A confidential Justice Department memo concludes that the US government,” i.e., Obama, “can order the killing of American citizens if they are believed to be ‘senior operational leaders\u2019 of al-Qaida or ‘an associated force\u2019 — even if there is no intelligence indicating they are engaged in an active plot to attack the US.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Well, that\u2019s not just open-ended. That\u2019s a pretty big net. That is casting a really wide net because it almost sounds like you don\u2019t even have to be a senior operational leader of Al-Qaeda or an associated force. Well, actually, an associated force is interesting. If this provision had been in place back in the seventies, does this mean that Nixon could have assassinated the Weathermen? Does this mean that Nixon coulda taken out Bill Ayers? Does this mean that Richard Nixon could have taken out the New Black Panther Party? It doesn\u2019t mean that? Well, “…\u2019senior operational leaders\u2019 of al-Qaida or ‘an associated force\u2019 — even if there is no intelligence indicating they are engaged in an active plot to attack the US.<\/p>\n

“The 16-page memo, a copy of which was obtained by NBC News,” which means the administration gave it to \u2019em, “provides new details about the legal reasoning behind one of the Obama administration\u00c2\u2019s most secretive and controversial polices: its dramatically increased use of drone strikes against al-Qaida suspects abroad, including those aimed at American citizens.”<\/p>\n

Remember all the grief that George Bush got for warrantless wiretaps on phone calls? Do you remember that? I remember when Bush was president, the American left was literally having conniption fits.<\/p>\n

Does that mean Nixon coulda killed Bill Ayers? It does mean that. Bill Ayers or the Weathermen. He had an active plot against the US, bombed the Pentagon. If Nixon had assumed the kind of power that Obama\u2019s assuming, he could have sent a commando team out to wipe out Bill Ayers. You can\u2019t kill rogue leaders. No, you cannot. By law, we cannot assassinate foreign leaders. We can now kill Americans, as long as we say they are related to Al-Qaeda somehow. And that link isn\u2019t too tough. Al-Qaeda hates America. All you have to do is hate America and it could be said that you are an associated force. <\/p>\n

Remember all of the anger that the left had over waterboarding. And look at this now. I think I have this right. Constitutional scholar Barack Obama is demanding the right to kill American citizens without making his case to a judge, as long as he thinks the American in question is in an upper tier of operations of Al-Qaeda or a related group. But he can\u2019t waterboard the guy. You can kill him, but we can\u2019t waterboard him. We can kill the son of a…, but we can\u2019t torture him. Have I got this right? I think I do. I thought you should know. <\/p>\n

CALLER: I want to talk to you about something, but you just mentioned something. Can I bring up something about — pronounce her name right — Rachel Maddow, the lady that\u2019s on TV, she\u2019s kind of on the left side?<\/p>\n

RUSH: You know, we don\u2019t talk about MSNBC on this program much. And it\u2019s not Friday. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay. I apologize.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I tell you what, I\u2019m gonna go ahead and give you an exemption in honor of the seminar caller today, \u2019cause we\u2019re interested in balance. So I\u2019ll go ahead and let you. What is it you want to say about Rachel Maddow?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I was listening \u2019cause I joined this TeaParty.org, and a little thing was on there, and she was playing what Obama said from his own mouth, and she said, he\u2019s gonna create a panel, and this panel will have the authority to, let\u2019s say me, they didn\u2019t like what I\u2019m saying and I pose a danger to the government, even if that danger is ten years from now, if they think ten years from now I pose a danger, they can come and get me for an indefinite period of time. And she was going out of her head, and she\u2019s on the left. She couldn\u2019t believe what he was saying, and if you ever get an opportunity you ought to check that out \u2019cause that\u2019s some curious things he\u2019s saying.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I haven\u2019t heard this. You mean if you just say something that Obama doesn\u2019t like, he can come get you?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Basically he was saying, if that panel, he said no one man should have the right, but we know if he created the panel —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wait a minute. Hold it, hold it. What panel?<\/p>\n

CALLER: He wants to create a panel of people, and this panel will have the right to say this individual could be a danger or threat to the government in ten years, so they can go pick him up and keep him for an indefinite period of time. That\u2019s out of his own mouth. And she was just like in shock. She said (paraphrasing), “It\u2019s the worst thing I\u2019ve heard in the history of doing this for a living.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: Honestly, Steve, I don\u2019t have any idea about this. I\u2019ve never heard of this. I don\u2019t know what it is you\u2019re talking about.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, if you get an opportunity, but I apologize for switching gears here, but when you were talking about that, it made me think about that, but the main thing is —<\/p>\n

RUSH: The only thing I know, Steve, is if you produce a video that causes riots, say in Libya, they can put you in jail.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes. That\u2019s for sure.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Aside from that, I don\u2019t know of a panel that will put you in jail or get rid of you for what you\u2019re thinking.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, you check it out when you can, and you\u2019ll find out he\u2019s opened his own mouth and said that\u2019s what he\u2019s planning on doing. As scary and as shocking as that is, it\u2019s real.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, I don\u2019t know. We\u2019ll check. What is it you really called about?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay, what I really called about is, you know, I just started a Tea Party group called the Desert Rats. It\u2019s just me. I just started it, but one of the things I want to tell everybody is, quit trying to create a third party. Just get a bunch of Tea Party people together, get \u2019em elected, and just take over the Republican Party and make it like it should be, not the mess it is today. Get rid of the Boehners, the McCains, the Lindsey Grahams, et cetera, and replace them with good people.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You know, I just want to give you a little helpful hint, a little warning. You better be very careful who you say that kind of stuff to, or McCain might come and put you in jail.<\/p>\n
