RUSH: Jerry, Wilmington, Delaware, you\u2019re next. I\u2019m glad you waited, sir. Great to have you on the EIB Network.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey, Rush, how are you?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Good.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019ve listened to you for over 20 years.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I appreciate that, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Really enjoy your show. I know you are a distinguished professor of advanced conservative studies, and I know that you can give me an intellectually honest answer to a couple questions I have. One, you know the electorate still blames Bush for the economy.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, of the people who voted, a majority blame Bush.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

CALLER: Correct. In your opinion, when did Obama\u2019s policies kick in and Bush\u2019s policies were not affecting the economy anymore? When did this exactly become Obama\u2019s economy? Because, you know, when he took office… (cell garbled)<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019d be about six weeks after he took office.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Six weeks.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah. That\u2019s when he passed the stimulus. Bush never did anything like that. The stimulus, then the various tax increases. I think Obama owned the economy within actually a month.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Within a month, all of Bush\u2019s affect should have been out the door?<\/p>\n

RUSH: In fact, there\u2019s so much… They\u2019re trying to tell us today that the Bush economy let to the recession, created the recession and all that and the economic collapse in 2008. That wasn\u2019t Bush. That was the subprime mortgage problem that came due. That\u2019s when the excrement hit the fan. Bush actually tried to prevent that from happening. No, look, the Bush people never defended themselves; I don\u2019t know why I am.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

But they never defended themselves. But that economic collapse, the seeds were sown during the Bill Clinton era. That economic collapse was a the Democrat Party recipe. Now, the Republicans helped because in the second term of Bush there was — there was incredible federal spending, but the idea that Obama\u2019s policies had no impact whatsoever on this economy for his entire first term is absurd. You don\u2019t believe that, do you?<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, I don\u2019t believe that, but I… It would be absurd also to say that eight years of Bush was out the window after four weeks. Come on! Really.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I\u2019m telling you that Obama put his signature on this economy in the first 30 days with the stimulus. A trillion dollars of brand-new spending, unfunded and unpaid for.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, Bush, uh, put in a unfunded, uh, you know, drug bill and, , uh,you know, there\u2019s… There were two unfunded wars. You cannot expect that Obama could have turned things around in five or six weeks, Rush. Come on.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I don\u2019t expect Obama to ever turn things around. He doesn\u2019t want to turn things around. Obama built on what was going wrong.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, you know, the stimulus that was passed…<\/p>\n

RUSH: Are you telling me that Obamacare <\/a>is somehow Bush\u2019s?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Uh, uh, say it one more time?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Obamacare. Did Bush do that?<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

CALLER: Absolutely not. That\u2019s, uh… That\u2019s definitely Obama\u2019s, uh, uh, doing in the long run that\u2019s going to help the economy.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, yeah. I forgot. You know, I forgot that. That\u2019s right, Obamacare\u2019s gonna reduce deficit. You\u2019re right! I forgot that. I\u2019m sorry.<\/p>\n

CALLER: In the long run. But, you know, uh, the other question I had was, you know, you kept saying —<\/p>\n

RUSH: When, by the way? What is “the long run”? When will the deficit start coming down because of Obamacare, do you think?<\/p>\n

CALLER: In my opinion, you know, the next five to ten years, you\u2019re gonna see —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, that\u2019s helpful. Deficit come down next five, ten years, that\u2019s helpful.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I mean, you talk about health care. You\u2019re talking about a huge part of the economy. It\u2019s gonna take a while for that particular, uh, you know, part to kick in and —<\/p>\n

RUSH: The government\u2019s running health care now. That is automatically gonna fix it, right?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I — I equate it to everybody getting Medicare. And, you know, if you like Medicare and you want to give it to everybody, uhh, and everybody contributes, I really think that\u2019s going to help in the long run.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s not what\u2019s happening. Medicare is staying as is. It has its own taxes. It has its own tax table. It is not part of Obamacare. Now, you might think that Obamacare is structured like Medicare for everybody, but it would have been much cheaper just to do Medicare for everybody than this. It would have been much cheaper just to insure the 30 million that didn\u2019t have it! We coulda done that for one one-hundredth of what Obamacare is costing. See, Obamacare is not about health care. I can\u2019t believe we\u2019re still litigating this. I cannot believe… What is this, 2010?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Isn\u2019t that what Romney did in Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Sorry, what was that?<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

CALLER: Wasn\u2019t that what Romney did in Massachusetts, uh, in terms of trying to insure everyone?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Trying to insure…? But it didn\u2019t work, did it?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I believe it is working out there.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh! Okay. Okay. I missed that. Well, you\u2019re more informed than I.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing) Well, I mean —<\/p>\n

RUSH: We need to hire you as a professor here at the distinguished institute.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I don\u2019t know if I would be conservative studies, but, you know, I am a Democrat.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right. Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I still think that the discussion —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Can you tell me, when did Bush\u2019s influence end? You\u2019re asking me when Obama\u2019s kicked in. When did Bush\u2019s influence end?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, on the day that the… uh, the day that the stimulus was passed — I would say from probably six months after that date — you could probably attribute 50% of what was going on to what Obama was doing.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Is that right? Six months after the stimulus, 50% of what was going on was Obama\u2019s?<\/p>\n

CALLER: And as I understand, most of the stimulus hasn\u2019t even been spent.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, no, it has. It was spent in the campaign. But you\u2019re right, a lot of it was not. Not all of it, but a significant amount of it was not. It was the same with TARP. It was the same with TARP — which, of course, that was a crisis. We had to spend that in 24 hours or the economy was gonna end, the world was gonna end! Do you remember that?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, I remember everything Obama inherited.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah. That\u2019s right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And that was part of my the second question.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Exactly right. Obama inherited it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Bush did it. Part of my second question is, when did another president inherit such a worse set of circumstances? Who?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Obama. Next year, Obama\u2019s gonna inherit a bigger mess than he inherited in 2008.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Really?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh, yeah!<\/p>\n

CALLER: Explain that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: There\u2019s no question. I think poor old Obama, he\u2019s gonna inherit two disasters.<\/p>\n

CALLER: We gonna have less… We gonna have one less war, the — the — the, uh, unemployment is falling. You know, is going down.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, it isn\u2019t. We are gonna be $22 trillion in debt by the time Obama finishes his second term. Obama is inheriting a bigger mess next month than he inherited in 2008. And that, Jerry, is because he caused a bigger mess than existed in 2008. He has given himself his own problem. Except to him it isn\u2019t a problem. It\u2019s the direction he wants to go. Reagan inherited a much worse economy than Obama did.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Explain that. I don\u2019t see. He didn\u2019t have a financial banking collapse. He didn\u2019t have a mortgage home, uh, uh, situation collapse, two wars going on, falling unemployment, budget deficit and debt crisis.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It was much worse. Reagan had two recessions in his first four years. In addition to the disaster that Jimmy Carter left him. You can look it up.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I still don\u2019t think it equals what Obama inherited.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh. Well, we\u2019ll just have to disagree agree to disagree. But regardless, the mess that Obama\u2019s gonna inherit next year or next month when he\u2019s inaugurated? Whew! That\u2019s the biggest mess that any president\u2019s ever inherited. You can go to bank on that one, Jer\u2019, old buddy.<\/p>\n

RUSH: By the way, I would submit, ladies and gentlemen, that the economy really started plunging before Obama was even inaugurated. November and December of 2008 is when unemployment started skyrocketing. That\u2019s when people started being laid off, because small businesses knew what was ahead of \u2019em. They knew. ‘Cause Obama talked about all he was gonna do, health care, nationalized health care, all the stimulus, they knew what was gonna happen, and they started laying people off in preparation for it. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
