RUSH: Brit Hume last night on Special Report with Bret Baier discussed the polls.<\/p>\n

HUME: We are looking at a set of state polls in the battleground states that suggest that President Obama is leading, he\u2019s leading in most of these polls, and most reporters would look at that and say, “Well, if that\u2019s the case, it looks like President Obama\u2019s gonna win,” and that\u2019s what a lot of people think. That\u2019s kind of the conventional wisdom. However, in a number of those polls there is a remarkably large number of Democrats in the sample. More Democrats in some cases than turned out by a percentage on Election Day four years ago, which was a very big year for the Democrats. They don\u2019t expect to have as big a year, so those polls are troubling. Now, it would be unprecedented for this many polls reflecting the similar outcome to be wrong, which is why I think people are reluctant to draw that conclusion. But there\u2019s something wrong here.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, welcome to the club. He\u2019s now seeing that the large Democrat sample in a lot of these polls is larger than the Democrat turnout in 2008. And nobody, even the pollsters, nobody thinks that the Democrats are gonna turn — it was plus seven in 2008.<\/a> The Republicans were all depressed, they weren\u2019t excited about McCain, it was fait accompli. I mean, we went into Election Day four years ago knowing it was over. And a lot of voters did, too. It\u2019s entirely different this time around. But, again, I just want to call everybody\u2019s attention to the fact that whatever the Democrat sample is, the assumption in all of these polls is that every Democrat\u2019s voting Obama. And even without this CNN poll<\/a>, I know that that\u2019s not true. I know that Obama, it stands to reason is gonna get fewer Democrat votes this year than he got in 2008. <\/p>\n

(interruption)<\/p>\n

You disagree with that, Snerdley? I want to take you back, grab sound bite number two. I want to take you back to October 30th of 2008.<\/a> This is one of my all-time favorite audio sound bites from our Grooveyard of Forgotten Sound Bites. This is Charlie Rose and Tom Brokaw, and this is just three or four days before the election. And to put this in perspective, we\u2019ve had a year to a year and a half of a campaign where the media has been ostensibly telling us everything there is about Obama. Of course we know that they didn\u2019t vet him. But despite whether they did or didn\u2019t, they have all been urging everybody to vote for Obama. They were in the tank big time. You know it, I know it, you all remember it. And yet just three or four days before the election, this conversation took place.<\/p>\n

ROSE: I don\u2019t know what Barack Obama\u2019s worldview is.<\/line><\/p>\n

BROKAW: No, I don\u2019t either.<\/p>\n

ROSE: I don\u2019t know how he really sees where China is.<\/p>\n

BROKAW: We don\u2019t know a lot about Barack Obama and the universe of his thinking about foreign policy.<\/p>\n

ROSE: I don\u2019t really know. And do we know anything about the people who are advising him?<\/p>\n

BROKAW: You know, it\u2019s an interesting question.<\/p>\n

ROSE: He\u2019s principally known through his autobiography and through very aspirational [sic] speeches.<\/p>\n

BROKAW: Two of them. Now, I don\u2019t know what books he\u2019s read.<\/p>\n

ROSE: What do we know about the heroes of Barack Obama?<\/p>\n

BROKAW: There\u2019s a lot about him we don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It didn\u2019t matter. Didn\u2019t matter. We were all supposed to vote for the guy. These guys are in the business of finding out who everybody is. These guys are in the business of speaking truth to power, right? These guys are in the business of exposing fraud, deceit, whatever it is in people of power. That\u2019s what they claim their job is. Here it is right before their eyes, (imitating Rose and Brokaw) “I don\u2019t know. I have no idea who he is. I can\u2019t wait to vote for him, but I don\u2019t know who he is. I think you ought to vote for him.”<\/p>\n

So let\u2019s go back. Charlie Rose last night. Here are the guests: Al Hunt; Matthew Dowd; John Harris, The Politico; Cokie Roberts; Mark Halperin, TIME Magazine; and John Heilemann of New York Magazine. We have a montage of their discussion about the presidential race.<\/p>\n

ROSE: Albert Hunt. (dramatic pause) Where are we?<\/p>\n

HUNT: Charlie, I think that the, uh — the fat lady is starting to sing. It looks like things are — are moving in a very, very slow but steady direction in Barack Obama\u2019s favor.<\/p>\n

ROSE: Breaking in the president\u2019s favor?<\/p>\n

HUNT: Yeah, this is not a dead-even race. It\u2019s ultimately gonna be a convincing victory by President Obama. It will be close, but it will be convincing.<\/p>\n

ROSE: John Harris?<\/p>\n

HARRIS: I agree with that.<\/p>\n

ROSE: Cokie Roberts?<\/p>\n

ROBERTS: I agree that it\u2019s breaking in the president\u2019s favor.<\/p>\n

ROSE: Mark Halperin, do you concur?<\/p>\n

HALPERIN: I think the winner of Ohio will win, and I think there\u2019s more reasons to think the president will win Ohio.<\/p>\n

ROSE: Let me get John in. Do you agree with everything people have said?<\/p>\n

HEILEMANN: I do, Charlie! I agree with everything that everybody said.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, that\u2019s a great guest list, isn\u2019t it? Six people, and they all think identically the same thing! What a great guest roster, Charlie. Not one person on Charlie\u2019s show that doesn\u2019t think Obama wins. Let\u2019s remember this: Not one person on Charlie\u2019s show last night who disagreed. Gloria Borger last night, CNN, The Situation Room, discussing the presidential race…<\/p>\n

BORGER: I think that voters don\u2019t really know who either of these guys are (snickering) in the end. What would a second Obama term look like? And what would a first Romney term look like, given the turning around we\u2019ve seen of Mitt Romney on the campaign? I don\u2019t think we know who either of them are.<\/p>\n

RUSH: What an indictment of yourself. So this is another journalist: “We don\u2019t know who these guys are.” Such diversity. I\u2019ll bet these guys don\u2019t even know anybody who voted for Romney. I\u2019ll bet none of these people know anybody. Add Gloria Borger to the Tom Brokaw-Charlie Rose list. They don\u2019t know who these guys are. It\u2019s your job! (laughing) It\u2019s no more complicated than that. It\u2019s your job to find out who these people are.<\/p>\n

But notice, “given the turning around we\u2019ve seen of Mitt Romney on the campaign,” meaning: Romney\u2019s flip-flopped, he\u2019s lied, he\u2019s distorted who he really is. What an indictment of themselves this is. Gloria Borger, you work at CNN! You\u2019ve got a national cable network to tell everybody what you found out about these guys. You don\u2019t know what a second term of Obama\u2019s gonna look like?<\/p>\n

What\u2019s America look like now?<\/p>\n

Now make it worse!<\/p>\n

I can tell you what a second term of Obama\u2019s gonna look like, and I can damn well tell you what Romney\u2019s gonna try to stop, and that\u2019s what\u2019s happening now. Gloria, do you realize that average Americans know more than you claim to know? Everybody voting against Barack Obama today knows damn well what the future holds, and that\u2019s why they\u2019re voting against him, Gloria! And everybody voting for Romney also knows what the next four years hold if Obama wins.<\/p>\n

Not only are they voting against that, they\u2019re voting for very specific things Romney has said he wants to accomplish. It isn\u2019t hard. It really isn\u2019t hard to understand who these two people are. One\u2019s a liberal. That\u2019s all you need to know about Barack Obama.
