RUSH: I want to share with you something that I saw yesterday at National Review Online. As you know, one of my favorite authors and writers is Victor Davis Hanson. The title of this piece is “A Presidency Squandered.” It doesn\u2019t require much for me to make the point here. “The Obama narrative is that he inherited the worst mess in memory and has been stymied ever since by a partisan Congress — while everything from new ATM technology to the Japanese tsunami conspired against him.<\/p>\n

“But how true are those claims? Barack Obama entered office with an approval rating of over 70%. John McCain\u00c2\u2019s campaign had been anemic and almost at times seemed as if it was designed to lose nobly to the nation\u00c2\u2019s first African-American presidential nominee.” Now, listen to this. It\u2019s a recitation of names who fell for all of this, and there\u2019s one name you will not hear on this list.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Coming up, Victor Davis Hanson mentions all of the people who fell for the Obama myth. As I go through this (it\u2019s not long, but it\u2019s significant), there\u2019s one name you will not hear. “One-percenter magnates welcomed Obama. If Steve Wynn, Donald Trump, and Mort Zuckerman now blast Obama, just four years ago they seemed to have found him a relief from George W. Bush. Christopher Buckley and the late Christopher Hitchens openly endorsed [Obama].<\/p>\n

“Republicans like Colin Powell, Scott McClellan, and Doug Kmiec all went public with their support. One got the impression from what David Frum, David Brooks, and Peggy Noonan wrote that with a wink and a nod they had welcomed his election. Never has a president entered office with so much goodwill from so many diverse quarters.” All of those names — all of those powerful, big-time Republican opinion makers — fell for it.<\/p>\n

They all wanted everybody to know that they, too, were in on the celebration of the election of the first black president, and that\u2019s all that mattered. Seventy percent approval rating. There was one person who said in the midst of all this, “I hope he fails,”<\/a> and that person was me. And the reason I said it was because I knew exactly what was going to happen, and it has. Because I know liberals. I know their ideology.<\/p>\n

I know their intentions. I know their tactics. I know predominantly that at the top of the list in defining a liberal is: They cannot tell you the truth about who they are and what they intend or they would never win an election in this country. And, of course, I was raked over the coals for being insensitive or whatever the charges were.<\/p>\n

But I stuck by it. I didn\u2019t buy into this ever, and I\u2019m not buying into any of it now. I\u2019m not buying into Hillary Clinton being responsible<\/a>. I\u2019m not buying into the claim that Obama and Biden didn\u2019t know. I\u2019m not buying into any aspect of the story. And I\u2019m telling you that you can trust me in my analysis of this administration and the people in it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
