RUSH: A lot of people are upset that Obama is running around… What\u2019s the word? I\u2019m having a mental block on this. Well, not politicizing it. Oh, he\u2019s “spiking the football.” He\u2019s spiking the football over the death of Osama Bin Laden and he said he wouldn\u2019t do that. He said he wouldn\u2019t do it. He\u2019s out there doing it, and he\u2019s also saying that Romney would not have pulled the trigger. Folks, let me find something here. Here we go. Have you ever heard the name Admiral William McRaven? Does that name ring a bell? Let me read to you a story here from the Washington Post. Ahem. The Washington Post. A guy named Craig Whitlock. This is May 4th, 2011, a year ago.<\/p>\n
You know I\u2019ve always liked saying “Abbottabad.” It just rolls after the tongue. Abbottabad! It\u2019s one of those words you like saying. “But when President Obama gave the authorization to invade the site, CIA Director Leon Panetta delegated the raid to McRaven, who had been preparing for such a moment for most of his career.” Uh, I wish I could cite my source for you. I can\u2019t. I\u2019m sworn to secrecy. But I\u2019m just gonna tell you: They had to go call the president off the golf course and get him into that Situation Room an hour and a half before the attack so he was there for the photo-op. And if you\u2019ll notice, if you\u2019ve seen the picture of Obama looking with the deer-in-the-headlight eyes at the monitor supposedly of the op taking place, you see a golf shirt under that jacket that they put on him.<\/p>\n
Now, it\u2019s perfectly understandable. When this kind of stuff happens, any president would take credit for it. “I\u2019m the big guy. I pulled the trigger. I gave the order,” and probably so. But these people go further. They want you to believe that Obama planned the op, that Obama gave the shoot order, that Obama may as well have had a remote control on the trigger. No, he didn\u2019t. But that\u2019s what they want you to believe. I\u2019m positive there was no remote control on the SEAL triggers. Obama could not push a button and have the SEALs\u2019 guns fire. They want us to believe pretty much the opposite. Grab sound bites four and five. This on Meet the Press yesterday. David Gregory talking to former spokesman Robert Gibbs. He said, “You\u2019ve seen Senator McCain saying that this is over the line here, Obama spiking the football, celebrating, talking about how great he was for getting Osama.”<\/p>\n
GIBBS: Certainly it\u2019s not over the line. Barack Obama, as our commander-in-chief, asked our intelligence community to find him. He was brought actionable intelligence —<\/p>\n

GIBBS: He directed, uh, the brave men and women in our military to go in, uh, and kill Osama Bin Laden, which is exactly what they did under extraordinary circumstances. Uh, and Osama Bin Laden no longer walks on this planet today because, uh, of that brave decision and the brave actions by the men and women in our military. Uh, and quite, frankly, Mitt Romney, uh, said it was a foolish thing to do, uh, a few years ago. And, look, there\u2019s a difference in the roles they had play as commander-in-chief, and I certainly think that\u2019s fair game.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Right. And of course Romney would also tell Medvedev: “Look, dude, sit tight, wait \u2019til I\u2019m reelected, and then I\u2019ll have the flexibility to get rid of our nukes. You tell Vlad to sit tight and hang on. Go to Georgia, whatever. I\u2019ll handle this once we get into December.” Romney woulda done that, too, right? So Obama told the intel people, “You find Bin Laden!” Nobody else had told \u2019em that. It was a brave decision to finally issue the “go” order from the golf course. Right. Uh-huh.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Romney wasn\u2019t even talking about Bin Laden. In 2007, Romney was addressing Obama\u2019s claim that the war in Iraq was just a distraction. He wasn\u2019t talking about the effort to go get Bin Laden. And now Gibbs and Obama are trying to say that Romney was saying that getting Bin Laden was a distraction. He wasn\u2019t. He wasn\u2019t talking about Obama\u2019s claim that Iraq was. That\u2019s how these people are lying and running the campaign these days.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I need to clarify something here. Romney was talking about Bin Laden insofar as Obama was claiming that Iraq was a distraction and that all we really needed to do was kill Bin Laden and the war on terror would be over. The Democrats are running around saying that. When Bush did not get Bin Laden, the Democrats were defining that as the sole means of win or lose the war on terror. So they said we\u2019re losing the war on terror because Bush hasn\u2019t got Bin Laden. If we\u2019d just kill Bin Laden, the war on terror would be over. Romney was saying, sure, it would be great, but that\u2019s not the end-all and be-all just to kill Bin Laden, that we would still have to fight the war on terror.<\/p>\n
Now, what the Obama people have done is turn that around into saying that Romney would not have cared about getting Bin Laden, and that\u2019s not what Romney was saying at all. But that\u2019s not all. I hold in my formerly nicotine-stained fingers a story from TheHill.com. The headline: “One Year Later, Obama Campaign Looks for Lasting Bin Laden Bounce.” And the reporters here at The Hill, you read the story and they\u2019re just dismayed at the injustice of all this, that Obama hasn\u2019t gotten a big bounce from killing Osama. They didn\u2019t have a bounce, didn\u2019t have a lasting bounce, they don\u2019t have a bounce now, so they\u2019re trying to actually create the first bounce by celebrating the anniversary. That\u2019s why I asked if today or tomorrow would be a national holiday last week that nobody had told me about.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m not gonna bother reading the whole story to you, but it\u2019s funny. It\u2019s typical of a State-Controlled Media outlet who is dismayed they had not been able to create the bounce for Obama. Here we are just a year after the killing of Osama Bin Laden, which The Hill here describes, quote, “undoubtedly a crowning achievement in President Obama\u2019s tenure at the White House.” Man, if that\u2019s all they got to crow about, then I\u2019m telling you they\u2019ve got nothing. And that\u2019s all they\u2019ve got to crow about and they\u2019re trying to dredge that up. And they\u2019re dismayed here because Obama\u2019s not getting any bounce in the polls. Because the American public doesn\u2019t realize what a brave and courageous thing it was that Obama did. And the American people are too darned fickle, and they just don\u2019t have the level of appreciation that TheHill.com thinks they should have.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Stop the tape. It has never been policy. Bush hadn\u2019t done that. See, it was Obama who told the intel people, (imitating Obama) “Uh, I want you, uh, I want you to go find Osama.” In fact, if I have this right — I know I had this right — they had Osama ready to go for like two-and-a-half or three weeks. They couldn\u2019t convince Obama to go and somebody had to tell him they were gonna lose their window if they didn\u2019t move now. It was Obama who was reluctant to go. They had to push him to this. They knew what block he was in in Abbottabad. Abbottabad. Not Obbottabad. It was Abbottabad. Any number of ways you can say it, but it\u2019s not Obbottabad. It\u2019s Abbottabad or Abbottabad or Abbottababbitabod. Or one of those. Look, folks, I\u2019m telling you, they had to drag him to this. They had this operation to go for two or three weeks and maybe a couple of months. So they\u2019re terribly upset.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
