RUSH: Let\u2019s go to Obama and his really lowest of the low, the most pathetic Obama has been — and that\u2019s saying something. It was his speech to the newspaper editors yesterday about Paul Ryan and Ryan\u2019s budget and the Republican Party in general. And here, we\u2019ll start with audio sound bite number one again. We led the program with this<\/a>, but here it is again just to remind you.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: Two million mothers and young children would be cut from a program that gives them access to healthy food. There would be 4,500 fewer federal grants at the Department of Justice and the FBI to combat violent crime, financial crime, and help secure our borders. Hundreds of National Parks would be forced to close for part or all of the year. We wouldn\u2019t have the capacity to enforce the laws that protect the air we breathe, the water we drink or the food that we eat.<\/p>\n

RUSH: This is… (sigh)<\/line><\/p>\n

OBAMA: Our weather forecasts would become less accurate because we wouldn\u2019t be able to afford to launch new satellites.<\/p>\n

RUSH: This is exhausting. It was late last year, last summer. No, it was last October. Biden was running around Flint, Michigan, saying that if something didn\u2019t happen there would be more rapes there. So now Obama yesterday, Obama says that (I\u2019ll translate this for you) Republicans want mothers and young children to eat contaminated food, that Republicans want more violent crime. They want more recklessness from Wall Street. They do not want to stop illegal immigrants. The Republicans want to close National Parks to keep you out. (Which, in fact, it\u2019s the Democrats that really want to do that, thinking that you pollute parks by your presence and that leads to global warming. But that aside.) Republicans do not want to enforce the laws that keep the air clean, so the Republicans want dirty air. The Republicans want dirty water. The Republicans want contaminated food. And the Republicans don\u2019t want you to know when severe weather is coming. They want your house to be destroyed by tornado. They want you to be flooded with heavy rain, and they want hurricanes to wipe you out.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what he\u2019s saying.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the president of the United States, and that\u2019s what he\u2019s saying.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a talking point that Obama stole from the Republican establishment…<\/p>\n

OBAMA: Ronald Reagan — who, as I recall, is not, uh, accused of being a tax-and-spend socialist — understood repeatedly (sic) that when the deficits started to get out of control, that for him to make a deal, he would have to propose both spending cuts and tax increases. He did it multiple times. He could not get through a Republican primary today.<\/line><\/a><\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: That is a crock. That is something that a bunch of Republican establishment types say today after they say, “The era of Reagan is over.” Reagan did get snookered twice on tax cuts for spending cuts. They never got the spending cuts. They never happened. And he vowed to never do it again. Here\u2019s Obama. The GOP budget is “a Trojan horse for social Darwinism.”<\/p>\n

OBAMA: It is a Trojan horse disguised as deficit-reduction plans. It is really an attempt to impose a radical vision on our country. It is thinly veiled social Darwinism. It is antithetical to our entire history as a land of opportunity and upward mobility for everybody who\u2019s willing to work for it. A place where prosperity doesn\u2019t trickle down from the top but grows outward from the heart of the middle class.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I really am at a loss to deal with this, because it\u2019s so far from reality that an attempt to analyze this from a base of reality isn\u2019t possible. This is the purposeful meandering and wandering so far from the truth as to make it practically impossible to put this in any kind of context. All I can tell you is that none of this is true and I don\u2019t even know what he means by “social Darwinism.” Social Darwinism to him is, “You\u2019re on your own! That\u2019s what the Republicans believe in, and to hell with you — and it\u2019s never worked. The only thing that\u2019s worked is what we\u2019ve done in the last three-and-a-half years.”<\/p>\n

See, but the architect of the worst economy in the nation\u2019s history… Do you remember 1992? The Clinton campaign, what was its slogan?<\/p>\n

“The worst economy in the last 50 years.”<\/p>\n

Which, of course, it wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

This may well be. Obama\u2019s economy is the worst economy in the last 50 years. See, the problem is, this is what he wants. He\u2019s the architect of this. He gave us this economy. He gave us this recovery. He wants more “Marcias,” <\/a>but he doesn\u2019t want them escaping. He wants them in welfare. He wants them in a state of perpetual dependence, because that means they need him. And that means they\u2019ll vote for him. It\u2019s a cynical plan and it\u2019s no more complicated than that. It\u2019s dehumanizing. There is nothing uplifting. There\u2019s no social justice here. There\u2019s no economic growth whatsoever. There\u2019s no opportunity, no prosperity with the Obama budget, with the Obama way of life. They don\u2019t believe it\u2019s possible anyway unless they are in total charge of the command-and-control and assigning it to people.<\/p>\n

So let\u2019s move forward to Paul Ryan. He was the focus of this. Last night, he was on Larry Kudlow\u2019s report on CNBC. Kudlow said, “I\u2019m not sure I even understand what he means by ‘social Darwinism,\u2019 Congressman Ryan. I remember the Trojan horse from my Greek mythology, but somehow he was pretty nasty to you. What is your first reaction to Obama\u2019s attack on you?”<\/p>\n

RYAN: Virtually none of the claims he makes about our budget are actually true. We\u2019ve kind of come to expect this from the president. This is fairly common for him these days. He\u2019s distorting the truth, he\u2019s dividing the country, and he\u2019s becoming more bitter and partisan by the day. Frankly, it\u2019s kind of sad to see. I think his office is bigger than this. I think if you look at the tone of his speech, the substance of his budget, it\u2019s beneath the office that he occupies. And so what we\u2019re getting here is not solutions. We\u2019re just getting demagoguery. We\u2019re getting desperation. We\u2019re getting partisan attacks from a campaigner-in-chief. Not solutions from a leader who sees a debt crisis coming. Because we\u2019re the ones who are actually proposing a fix to prevent this debt crisis. He\u2019s not, and therefore he\u2019s attacking us. And I just don\u2019t think that\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, it isn\u2019t leadership. But, see, even Ryan is struggling with a way to characterize this. It is so beneath the dignity of the office of the presidency that coming up with ways to characterize this are really difficult, other than to say what Ryan said. I don\u2019t know that saying — this not a criticism of Ryan. I hope it does, but I just don\u2019t know that that kind of critique penetrates with people who think Obama\u2019s wonderful. It\u2019s a real challenge, folks. I\u2019m telling you, it\u2019s a real challenge, because this is not the only time we\u2019re going to have to do this. This is one election of many that we are going to have to win. And then after the elections are won, we\u2019re gonna have to have the right policies implemented and passed and signed into law, and then supported. <\/p>\n

Here\u2019s more Ryan. Kudlow said, “He got pretty specific in this speech, saying that your budget is gonna end research and development; is gonna end infrastructure; gonna end prescription drugs. That you don\u2019t want to forecast the weather anymore, won\u2019t be able to know about hurricanes. You\u2019re against education and training. You\u2019re basically gonna get rid of everything but the Washington Monument. What is your response to that?”<\/p>\n

RYAN: This is surreal, really bizarre. He has to put this assumption to make all those claims that\u2019s not an assumption we have in our budget. So they\u2019re literally just making this stuff up. What he\u2019s trying to do is, he\u2019s not offering solutions, so he\u2019s gotta distract the country, divide the country, and attack those of us who are offering solutions. And I think it\u2019s his only chance left to try and win reelection. And so he\u2019s resorting to these very sophomoric tactics. And it\u2019s just very unbecoming of the presidency of the United States, if you ask me.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It is. It is unbecoming, but how many people that vote for Obama think that it\u2019s unbecoming? How many of \u2019em think that he\u2019s actually defending them, supporting them, protecting them against dirty water? I mean what we\u2019re up against, I don\u2019t know anybody who actually thinks — no, I take that back — I am pretty safe in assuming there are people who think Republicans want dirty water and that doesn\u2019t compute with me. I don\u2019t know how anybody can believe it. I know that they do, but I can\u2019t make an intellectual trail that someone could follow to get there. Where there isn\u2019t any intellect in this. This is simply blind obedience. But Republicans want dirty water, to poison the air, and people believe it. Take away your health care.<\/p>\n

You can hear Ryan, too. He\u2019s nonplussed by this. Not nonplussed. He\u2019s bewildered. Paul Ryan doesn\u2019t want to take away anybody\u2019s clean air and clean water. The idea is, frankly, absurd. To even have to say that is insulting. Kudlow: “On top of all that, he said you want to destroy Medicare with what he calls vouchers. You call it premium supports. That you will destroy Medicaid. That you\u2019re going to prevent people from getting emergency room care. That you want people to die. That you don\u2019t want college students to go to school. In other words, at what point does this stuff become so ridiculous, or do you think some of the public buys this, Congressman Ryan, and his label of you is as an extremist will stick?”<\/p>\n

RYAN: It\u2019s beyond the pale of ridiculousness. We\u2019re keeping program levels where they are. We\u2019re just not having this massive increase and then a funding cliff like he does. We actually save Medicare. We don\u2019t have a board of 15 bureaucrats that are unelected, unaccountable, that he puts in charge of rationing the program. What I think we\u2019re getting from here is sort of a desperate political attack so beyond the pale. What I get out of this is it\u2019s sort of a desperate move, which is, if you go with these Republicans, they\u2019re gonna feed you to the wolves, it\u2019s gonna be a dog-eat-dog society. It\u2019s a false choice, and it\u2019s for a lack of leadership that it\u2019s taking place. And I just don\u2019t think people are gonna buy it. I don\u2019t even really know how to describe all of this stuff, but I think he\u2019s just getting sort of desperate and demagogic. And it\u2019s just part and parcel of the kind of campaign I think we\u2019re gonna expect this fall.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, that\u2019s true, that\u2019s true. But how many of his voters, if you go out and say, “The man\u2019s just a demagogue.” “What?” And then you define it for \u2019em, and they still don\u2019t know what it is, then what do you do?<\/p>\n

<\/a>RUSH: So Snerdley just said to me, “Oh, the way Ryan reacted. It\u2019s not gonna work. He just can\u2019t sit there and say ‘demagogic.'” And I said, “What would you say?” “I\u2019d just go tell these people, ‘We don\u2019t want to kill you.'” I said, “You can\u2019t do that. Then you\u2019ve accepted the premise.” Now you\u2019re arguing the absurdity. That\u2019s the old adage: You never get into an argument with a fool \u2019cause after a while people won\u2019t be able to tell the difference. <\/p>\n

So if you\u2019re gonna try to convince somebody who has been led to believe that you, your politics, you exist, your political ideas are to kill them, and you accept that premise, you\u2019ve lost it. You\u2019ve lost it by virtue of accepting the premise to argue it. “No, Mr. Democrat, I as a Republican don\u2019t want to kill you.” “Well, the president says you do, and he says you want my water to be dirtier and I\u2019ll bet my water isn\u2019t as clean as yours. And I\u2019ll bet you don\u2019t live near a bunch of buses and stuff. I\u2019ll bet your air is not as dirty as mine. And you don\u2019t care.” Then you go, “Oh, God. How do I deal with this?” “And you don\u2019t care if I die.” To which I would say, “You know, 1.3 million babies die in this country every year, and it\u2019s your party supporting that. It\u2019s not me.” “Well, that\u2019s different. That\u2019s a woman\u2019s right to choose.” They know all the catchphrases. <\/p>\n

“Social Darwinism.” What is it? Even Larry Kudlow didn\u2019t know what it was. We here at the EIB Network have been struggling with this. Would aborting Down Syndrome babies be considered social Darwinism? And who\u2019s in favor of that? Who? Margaret Sanger was in favor of that, yes, Planned Parenthood babe. Yeah, exactly right.
