RUSH: James in Louisville, great to have you on the program.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hello, Rush?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: All right, let\u2019s get down to it. This thing about Mitt Romney<\/a> running for the president.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah?<\/p>\n

CALLER: We all gotta vote for him so he can be the Republican candidate. Now, here\u2019s the deal. Everybody thinks he\u2019s a flip-flopper.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: What we do is we all get together, we elect his butt, when he gets into office then we gonna stay on him like white on rice. We gonna make him every day, 24 hours a day, make sure he stays on focus. And if we do that —<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: So you want to elect his butt, then bulldoze his butt, make sure he stays conservative?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Absolutely. There\u2019s no other way. I\u2019ve thought about this thing six ways from Sunday. We have nobody else running that\u2019s a conservative or a Republican.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, I have cited a column by Daniel Henninger in the Wall Street Journal that came out last winter sometime —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — that basically said the same thing. It said that Romney is going to always have to be pushed to the right, that his natural inclination is to move to the center or the left, is gonna have to constantly pushed there, and that\u2019s what Henninger was hoping would happen during the primary, that the pressure from the other conservative candidates would move Romney to the right. And I think that this is true, it\u2019s gonna have to happen, and the media is going to be obviously trying to push him to the left if he happens to get elected or even after he is nominated. But I think you\u2019re exactly right, I think it\u2019s gonna require pretty consistent pressure.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, yeah, we got bulldoze him. He\u2019s gotta know there is no safe haven. If he\u2019s gonna represent the Republican ticket then he\u2019s gonna have to —<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: Let me tell you something I heard him say —<\/p>\n

CALLER: All right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — that I don\u2019t know that he\u2019s said publicly. He said, if he wins, he thinks he\u2019ll only last one term.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Now, are you talking about Obama or are you talking about Romney?<\/p>\n

RUSH: He says that he is going to roll back all the stuff the left has done. He\u2019s gonna ban Obamacare. He\u2019s gonna fix Medicaid. He\u2019s gonna take on Social Security. He says, (paraphrasing) “I\u2019ve got four years to save this country, and if I succeed I\u2019m gonna be so hated, I may not get reelected.”<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I\u2019ll tell you what —<\/p>\n

RUSH: And what he means by that is the media and the left is gonna come after him like crazy, because he is going to be taking on every one of their sacred cows.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, if he knows that we\u2019re all behind him, then he\u2019s not gonna lose, he\u2019s gonna win. This is really an important election year.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, that\u2019s the thing. If he does that, he wins in a landslide, his reelection effort, if he really pulls that off.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Absolutely.<\/p>\n

RUSH: The problem is always gonna be the media for our people and wanting to please them. James, if we could get somebody to not care about the media, or to actually have fun in tweaking them, that\u2019s very difficult. The president could do it, he has a bully pulpit. Most people don\u2019t have a microphone every day to counter it, as I do. But the media is gonna be a huge pressure point, and a lot of Republicans want to please the media; they still do. That\u2019s one of our big problems.<\/p>\n

CALLER: There\u2019s more of us than there are of them. And I\u2019m telling you what, this is too big, and I know —<\/p>\n

RUSH: And it\u2019s too crucial out there.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I\u2019m gonna tell you something. I know that actually the Democrats are hoping that Romney\u2019s gonna be elected to represent us. What we\u2019re gonna do is we gonna put the pressure on Mitt that he\u2019s got no choice. He\u2019s gonna have to do it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Do you think Obama wants Romney?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Absolutely. They think they gonna eat his lunch. But I\u2019m telling you, if we all get together right now, and it\u2019s gotta be now, \u2019cause this thing is getting down to the line here, I already know that the other guys that are running don\u2019t have a chance of ever being elected to anything.<\/p>\n

RUSH: What guys?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Excuse me?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Newt <\/a>and Santorum and —<\/line><\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. Yeah, I mean they\u2019ve got some good ideas but they don\u2019t have the fire in the belly, and they ain\u2019t got the balls for it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You think there is nobody that can beat Romney in the nomination process?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Absolutely not.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, James, I\u2019ll tell you, it\u2019s an interesting point of view. I think a lot of people are going, “Could we just end this now?” \u2019cause they\u2019re gonna look at this as destructive. But, look, 1,144 delegates are needed, and right now Romney leads with 12. South Carolina\u2019s next week and then Florida, and then February, nothing. They take the month of February off, and then Super Tuesday hits. So these next two are going to be pretty indicative. James, thanks for the call. I appreciate it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Duane in Huntington, Indiana. Great to have you on the program, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Thank you for taking my call, Rush, and belated happy birthday.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you very much, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey, I told Bo, I got you by 21 years. I\u2019ve been 60 years active in the Republican Party locally. I\u2019ve been a candidate, an officeholder, precinct worker, all those things.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wow.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m a conservative. I had the advantage of being in school when they still taught proper history and economics, and I have held my nose for the last time. I\u2019m the one who called you four years ago and suggested McCain step across the aisle and touch the empty chair and stay there. You liked that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: (laughing) Yes, yes.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I also predicted last spring what was gonna happen between the RINOs and the media trying to select our candidate. Now, my whole attitude now is different. If we\u2019re gonna go to a Marxist dictatorship, let the people who are experts either do it all at once rather than — I can\u2019t bringing myself to vote for a sneak who wants to do it a little bit slower. And I\u2019m here to say that there is no way that I\u2019m going to vote for John-Mitt-McRomneyCain. He has not only flip-flopped, he has implemented some of his beliefs, notably the socialized medicine, then sent helpers to Obama to help him.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wait a minute. I want to make sure I understand this. You think if we\u2019re gonna go Marxist —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Let them do it right out. Don\u2019t do it so painfully —<\/p>\n

RUSH: You mean just cede it to Obama rather than electing a pretender?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Let me say it this way, Rush, make it a little more civilized. I don\u2019t see anything right now in Romney\u2019s attitude that could cause me to vote for him. It\u2019s gonna be Newt or any other conservative. Now, they say Newt has flip-flopped, too. The difference is, Newt never implemented any of his policies and then changed his mind. He may have made some mistakes, but he corrected them. We\u2019re all human, we make mistakes. He balanced a budget. He is able to take it, not in debate, but on the road, he could take it to Obama and providing the RINOs don\u2019t choke him off from attribution. You can\u2019t attack the programs without attribution to the person who designed them.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Let me tell you something. I know the point you\u2019re trying to make. I really feel if Obama gets four more years there\u2019s no coming back from it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, that\u2019s what I\u2019m afraid of, but at the same time —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, then, I\u2019ll take slowing it down.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay. Okay. Well, you may —<\/p>\n

RUSH: I\u2019m not gonna agree with you that Romney\u2019s a Marxist.<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, no, no, no, no, no, no.<\/p>\n

RUSH: ‘Cause if he\u2019s the nominee, are you gonna go silent, are you not —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Bo asked me what happens if he\u2019s the candidate. I said I have to weigh that in my mind. Today I\u2019m inclined not to vote.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, you gotta realize there\u2019s a huge difference, even with whatever the worst of Romney is, it isn\u2019t Obama.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. Well, you\u2019re right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I understand your frustration, though. I understand everybody\u2019s frustration. It\u2019s infuriating. I know exactly how you feel, folks. Here we\u2019ve got the most defeatable candidate we could have, genuine Marxist who has destroyed the US economy, whether by design or by accident, the numbers of people out of work, the hopelessness, the ongoing saga of the decline of America, it\u2019s infuriating there isn\u2019t a full-fledged 100% conservative out there that could take this. But it is what it is. I\u2019m not even talking about purity. I know people were hoping for a Palin. The Chris Christie camp thinks that he is a full-fledged, 100% conservative, but he said no. Marco Rubio, where are these people? Bobby Jindal? There\u2019s a whole lot of people, there\u2019s a lot of conservatives out there; now, where are they? And there\u2019s a disappointment over that.
