RUSH: This is Ruthy in Brooklyn. Great to have you on the program. Hi.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey, Rush, how are you?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Very well. Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I just want to tell you first of all my husband and I went to your show, we had a great time, in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

RUSH: (pause)<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hello?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah? You mean at the Town Hall?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, it was great. We had a great time.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you very much.<\/p>\n

CALLER: What I wanted to tell you is over the years I\u2019ve been listening to you for many, many years and I\u2019ve learned a lot of things from you. One of the most important things I\u2019ve learned from you is to question everything the media says.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And when they don\u2019t make a big deal about something — I\u2019m talking about the mainstream media, not like you were talking about before about the Republican establishment<\/a>.<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: To question why they\u2019re not making a big deal and I noticed in terms of Newt they\u2019re really not making a big deal which makes me kind of, I don\u2019t know, a little skeptical.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wait, wait, wait, wait! I\u2019m losing you. What media is not making a big deal out of Newt?<\/p>\n

CALLER: (kids screaming in the background) I don\u2019t hear the mainstream media a very big deal like they did with Herman Cain, let\u2019s say. On the same lines, like you always say: Don\u2019t like them pick our candidate. And I feel like we\u2019re gonna get into that same trap of them picking our candidate, and we have to make sure that they don\u2019t — and what I am thinking… (cell drops) Because you were talking yesterday about the ingenuity of the American people just with your Two If By Tea ads — I really feel like we should all these people that are making these amazing ads for your Two If By Tea<\/a>. (cell drops) The same people can, you know, we can all work together to come to make some amazing. I\u2019m actually asking for your help or to figure out a way for the American people to pick our candidate, the Republican conservatives to pick our candidate.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, that has to happen with voters and cauci attendees in the primaries. Now, when we discuss the media picking the candidate, what we mean is the media will decide who they don\u2019t want and they\u2019ll take out, like Herman Cain or whoever. They\u2019ll try to take them out with rotten stories, innuendo, hit pieces, you name it, before anybody\u2019s had a chance to vote — and it\u2019s happening. This stuff largely happens before anybody has a chance to vote, the media picking the candidate. Right now, you say that the mainstream media is not doing much on Newt. Newt is down ten points in Iowa in a matter of three days. Somebody\u2019s getting the word out. We know that the Republican establishment — and, by the way, the Republican establishment likes to deny that they exist.<\/p>\n

They like to say that there really isn\u2019t a Republican establishment. The Republican establishment is the permanent political class in the Beltway with offshoot groups in New York. The permanent political class will include media people who are there regardless who wins elections — donors, big donors are part of the political class, and certain elected officials. And after they lose an election, they still remain in the Ruling Class, either by becoming a lobbyist or finding some related job. They\u2019re not necessarily the smartest by definition, but they are admitted or they are members because they ascribe to the groupthink — and that\u2019s the qualification. It isn\u2019t money so much, it isn\u2019t pedigree of school so much, although that is a factor more than other things.<\/p>\n

But largely it\u2019s groupthink, and it\u2019s a permanent group of people — with underlings, small fry, and young up-and-coming so-called superstars trying to get into it — and that\u2019s the bunch that\u2019s been dumping all over Newt. The permanent political class has been dumping all over him, and they say they\u2019ve got their reasons. The mainstream media is reporting that, too. The mainstream media\u2019s reporting what\u2019s going on within the Republican political class, and it is working, and the bad thing is it\u2019s elevating Ron Paul in both the Hawkeye Cauci and the New Hampshire primary. Anyway, Ruthy, thanks for the call. I appreciate it. I\u2019m glad you enjoyed the Rush to Excellence Tour at Town Hall in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

RUSH: The mainstream media is an echo chamber for the permanent political class. Think of the mainstream media as the elves in Santa\u2019s Workshop, and Santa\u2019s Workshop is the federal government. The mainstream media are the elves, and they\u2019re stenographers, they\u2019re note-takers, and they got it down. Now, letting the media pick the candidates, yeah, it\u2019s a problem but you can overcome it. In Iowa, you go to the cauci. In New Hampshire, you go to the primaries and you vote, and you just don\u2019t let the media choose.
