RUSH: Audio sound bites. Barack Obama, October 15th, 2008, in Hempstead, New York, the third and final presidential debate between Barack Hussein Obama, mmm, mmm, mmm, and Senator John McCain. The moderator was Bob Schieffer of CBS News who said, “Give us some specifics, Senator Obama, on what you\u2019re going to cut.”<\/p>\n
OBAMA: I think it\u2019s important for the American public to understand that the $750 billion rescue package, if it\u2019s structured properly — and as president I will make sure it\u2019s structured properly — means that ultimately taxpayers get their money back, and that\u2019s important to understand. <\/p>\n
RUSH: Hold it a second. Wait a minute. I didn\u2019t even know that was coming. Gotta go back to the top here. That\u2019s an added bonus. He\u2019s talking about his Porkulus bill here. We haven\u2019t even gotten to what I thought was gonna be the meat and potatoes of this, failure to be able to name any places to cut. He just said, “if it\u2019s structured properly — and as president I will make sure it\u2019s structured properly.” See, this is the kind of stuff that makes the crease in the pants crowd think he\u2019s brilliant and well spoken. “If it\u2019s structured properly — and as president I will make sure it\u2019s structured properly.” Okay, case closed, he\u2019s gonna take care of it. See, no doubts. That means ultimately taxpayers get their money back. By the way, your taxes next year are going up, everybody\u2019s, an average of three to $4,000. Your health care premiums are going up, and here he\u2019s saying in 2008 you\u2019ll get your money back with his stupid plan. Well, an added bonus, I didn\u2019t even know that was in there. Here it is. I didn\u2019t remember that.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s important to understand. But there is no doubt that we\u2019ve been living beyond our means, and we\u2019re gonna have to make some adjustments. Now, what I\u2019ve done throughout this campaign is to propose a net spending cut. I haven\u2019t made a promise about —<\/p>\n
OBAMA: Absolutely, so let me get to that. What I want to emphasize, though, is that I have been a strong proponent of pay-as-you-go. Every dollar that I\u2019ve proposed, I proposed an additional cut so that it matches. And some of the cuts, just to give you an example, we spend $15 billion a year on subsidies to insurance companies. It doesn\u2019t — under the Medicare plan, it doesn\u2019t help seniors get any better, it\u2019s not improving our health care system, it\u2019s just a giveaway.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Okay, Schieffer, mildly frustrated, says, “Senator McCain, the question was, what are you going to cut?”<\/p>\n
MCCAIN: Energy independent. We have to have nuclear power. We have to stop sending $700 billion a year to countries that don\u2019t like us very much. It\u2019s wind, tide, solar, natural gas, nuclear, off-shore drilling, which Senator Obama has opposed. And the point is that we become energy independent and we will create millions of jobs — millions of jobs in America. I would have across-the-board spending freeze, okay? Some people say that\u2019s a hatchet. That\u2019s a hatchet, and then I would get out a scalpel, okay?<\/p>\n
SCHIEFFER: Which ones? <\/p>\n
MCCAIN: I have fought against — well, one of them would be the marketing assistance program. Another one would be a number of subsidies for ethanol<\/p>\n
RUSH: So McCain finally got specific. Obama never was. And they look the other way. But I just play this sound bite because everybody is in a tizzy in the media and people on our side going nuts over Rick Perry\u2019s gaffe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
