RUSH: Mark in Philadelphia. Mark, welcome to the EIB Network. Great to have you here, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey, Rush. Man, so exciting to talk to you. I\u2019m so glad you take my call.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You bet, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, I\u2019m calling you because I was really inspired a couple of weeks ago. I\u2019ve listened to you for a long time and I was inspired by, you know, Ryan Rhodes and what he did, just being polite and asking the president a question, but being up front about it and just how he\u2019s outspoken and just getting out there. You know, for the longest time… I\u2019m just hoping you could put me in the right direction because for the longest time I\u2019ve been wanting to get more about this. I want to do more, you know, I\u2019ve written my favorite GOP candidate, offering my support and assistance. I sound like a broken record to my friends and my family. I listen to you everyday. You know, I just want to do more. Is there any advice you can give me?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, first so people know who you\u2019re talking about: Ryan Rhodes the Tea Party guy that challenged President Obama at one of Obama\u2019s many jobs forums, and I ended <\/a>up giving the guy a Mac I think because he was using an old computer.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, he was using an Acer. Yeah, I think you fall into the category of a lot of people. You are looking for leadership.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. I want to know how I can be a leader, too. That\u2019s what I want to step up and do. I\u2019m a young structural engineer. I work in Philly. I just want to find out a way to break into an area where I can have a voice. I mean, I love listening to your voice. You know, I learned so much from your show. I do a lot of research. I really want to do more. I know there\u2019s people who like to sit and listen and have an opinion but there\u2019s people who really, really want to do something and I just really want to do something.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, don\u2019t lose your passion, and don\u2019t lose your desire, and remain patient. Stay on the course that you\u2019re on. Opportunities will pop up as long as you don\u2019t have a goal structure that\u2019s too narrow. Now, basically, you want to have impact.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You want to make a difference. You want to matter and so forth. You don\u2019t want to just sit around and think and be on the right side when your thinking is correct and so forth; you want action associated with it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And, you know, I think one of the best things that you could do… How old are you?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m twenty-five.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Twenty-five. I think an interesting project for you would be to start honing skills of persuasion —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — with the people your age. You say you want to make a difference.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Mmm-hmm.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You don\u2019t have microphone yet, you don\u2019t have a TV show — but stand by because everybody does standpoint in their lives have a radio show.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (chuckles)<\/p>\n

RUSH: You, too, will have a radio show someday. It will be a podcast. It\u2019ll be on Facebook or Twitter something.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (chuckles)<\/p>\n

RUSH: You, too, you will be broadcasting yourself. Until that opportunity pops up, wherever you find the right time and the right opportunity — be it in the bar after work or wherever you congregate with people who disagree with you — start honing your skills on persuading them.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And even if they\u2019re people that don\u2019t care, try to make \u2019em care.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You know, I just had a golf trip in Hawaii, usual bunch of guys, and some of them couldn\u2019t care less. They don\u2019t care. And others of us, all we do at dinner is talk and get passionate about this, and the ones that don\u2019t care get bored and frustrated, and so we tried to make it interesting. We tried to get these guys to care. They\u2019ve got kids. We tried to make \u2019em understand why this is important.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: A lot of people don\u2019t want to care because that\u2019s a commitment. You\u2019re ready to make a commitment. You\u2019re ready to make a commitment to actually do something. You want action behind your thoughts. A lot of people, well, that\u2019s just too much of a commitment. They\u2019ve got too much else going on in their lives, earning a living or whatever it is.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Their attitude is it\u2019s all gonna work out however it works out, and they\u2019ll deal with that as it happens. That\u2019s their attitude. You don\u2019t want to wait for things to work out. You want to impact the way they work out.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: But don\u2019t become a community organizer. I\u2019m not suggesting that you become a community organizer. That is just… Snerdley is afraid that you\u2019re gonna go out and <\/a>become Obama Jr. with my advice.<\/p>\n

CALLER: No way.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I\u2019m just saying that whenever you have a chance, persuade. You have conversations with people about this stuff, do you not?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, every day.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Every day. What\u2019s the percentage of them that don\u2019t care?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, I would say 75%.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And of the remaining 25%, how many disagree with you?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Um, half and half.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay. So your focus is the 75% that don\u2019t care, and I\u2019m telling you: That is a very important thing. Make \u2019em care. Find a way.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You will have immediate feedback, immediate satisfaction, because once you succeed at this they will then become evangels or converts and start trying to do the same thing.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: As far as strategies to make \u2019em care, some of them may have kids, some of them may not, some of them are going to have kids someday. I\u2019d approach that from that standpoint. I tell you, I have a lot of friends — and they\u2019re in their late fifties and sixties — who are just now realizing that politics does matter, that it\u2019s not just the Republicans and Democrats are pretty much the same and every election they might share power and change and the Republicans run it for four years, then the Democrats run it for four years. They\u2019re now realizing there\u2019s big differences between the two, that the Democrats are harmful, that the Democrats are the impediment to growth. If you can get hold of people your age and make them understand that politics matters, as you understand, your passion is gonna be the biggest selling point you\u2019ve got here. But you don\u2019t want to come at \u2019em too forcefully and drive them away.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Just work on it. This will be your project. Figure out a way to persuade the 75% that you know that don\u2019t care that this stuff matters.<\/p>\n

CALLER: All right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Do that.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I will do. Thank you, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Interesting question: “What do the people who don\u2019t care about politics talk about? Now, see, we couldn\u2019t ask that question. I couldn\u2019t say, ‘Those of you who don\u2019t care, please call and tell us what you talk to each other about?” Everybody listening to this program cares about politics. Well, I I know people who don\u2019t care, and I know what they talk about. That\u2019s a question to ask yourself: “What do people who don\u2019t care about politics talk about?” and when I say politics, I\u2019m talking about jobs. I\u2019m talking about the future of the economy, the future of the country. I don\u2019t mean conservative and liberal, and Republican and Democrat. I don\u2019t mean that. I mean politics is how we manage our affairs. People that don\u2019t care about that, what do they talk about? (interruption)<\/p>\n

Okay, what Lady Gaga wore. What was on American Idol. Who Dr. Phil interviewed. Who stole Dr. Dre\u2019s headphones. That stuff, right? That\u2019s what they talk about. Pop culture, worthless crap. Or — or — well, not so much. The people I know are not trying to worry how they get more money out of us. Well, wait a minute.
