RUSH: Did you know, ladies and gentlemen, almost no temperature records were broken in last week\u2019s “record-breaking heat”? It is remotely possible because what we got in news reporting last week was a bunch of untruths, was a bunch of lies. “Record breaking,” quote, unquote, “US Heat Wave Breaks Records at Less Than 0.4% of All Stations Reporting Last Week.” I was in Boston. In Boston the heat index was reported to be 110, 112. They weren\u2019t even bothering to report the temperature. I found it. The temperature in Boston on Saturday (or maybe it was Friday) hit 102, one degree short of the record — and do you know when the record of 103 was? 1926!<\/p>\n
RUSH: Now, I just had the story. In all of the panicked — and, boy, was it panicked! We were picked up at the airport. We were picked up at the airport in Boston at three a.m., and the driver said, “I hope they told you about the weather,” you know, \u2019cause we were going to a funeral. “I hope they told you about the weather.”<\/p>\n
I said, “I know about the weather before it gets forecast.”<\/p>\n
He looked at me and he laughed he said, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, you would.<\/p>\n
I said, “Well, what were you gonna tell me?”<\/p>\n
“Well, it\u2019s gonna be 99 tomorrow.”<\/p>\n
I said, “Really? In July? It gets to 99 degrees in July in Boston?”<\/p>\n
The driver started chuckling, \u2019cause the driver got my point. The driver\u2019s name was Oscar. He got my point.<\/p>\n
“Ninety-nine degrees in July? Is that a record?”<\/p>\n
“Oh, no, no. No. It\u2019s just gonna be hot.”<\/p>\n
“Yeah, I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever felt 99 degrees before. Thanks for telling me.”<\/p>\n
He said, “Well, we\u2019re supposed to hit a record the next day.”<\/p>\n
I said, “What\u2019s that?”<\/p>\n
“Well, we\u2019re supposed to hit 102.”<\/p>\n
“Really, in July? That\u2019s unheard of. If this were February I\u2019d be impressed. This is July.”<\/p>\n
He said, “Well, no, no. Okay, I\u2019m just telling you.”<\/p>\n
Kathryn\u2019s nudging me with elbow: “It\u2019s just three a.m.. Can you shut up and we just get to the hotel?” I mean, playfully nudging me. So all the news stories I just had today — all the news stories about all of the record-breaking heat last week — were lies. In only four-tenths of 1% of reported temperatures was a record set. Had I known this sound bite existed I would have played this sound bite when I reported it last week. Last Thursday and Friday PMSNBC, a montage of Michael Smerconish and Sergeant Schultz and the Reverend Sharpton discussing me, discussing the heat index.<\/p>\n

SGT. SCHULTZ: Rush Limbaugh thinks this summer\u2019s sweltering temperatures are being manufactured by the government.<\/p>\n
SHARPTON: Rush Limbaugh thinks the heat index is a conspiracy cooked up by the lef\u2019. (chuckling) I wonder what he thinks of the wind chill.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Okay, I\u2019m convinced they\u2019re writing Al Sharpton\u2019s scripts. I\u2019m convinced that they\u2019re writing Sharpton\u2019s scripts, when he starts sounding like everybody else. You know, until I start hearing talk about Tawana Brawley I\u2019m not gonna think that he\u2019s actually talking about what he wants to talk about. He\u2019s actually, Sharpton, reading a script. Well, how do you dolts feel now when you understand that there wasn\u2019t one record set last week? The heat index is not an official temperature. It\u2019s not a record. There are too many variables in it, but they wanted to go along with the heat index because it was crisis, because it got everybody all frightened!<\/p>\n
RUSH: I have another question. Where is the wind chill factor in the summer? Well, no, if the wind chill factor supposedly makes you colder in the winter, why doesn\u2019t it make you cooler in the summer? Because it does. You ever been out there on the golf course, dry, still, hot, muggy, all of a sudden a breeze comes up. Ahhh. You feel cooler. Why do they not put a wind chill factor out with wind speeds in the summer? Hmm? Why not a heat index in the winter? Does humidity in the winter make you cooler or warmer? I don\u2019t know. I\u2019m just asking.<\/p>\n
By the way, as somebody just suggested, “You know, you would never live in a place called Realville. You\u2019d need to change the name of the town to Reality Heights.” They like that. They\u2019re laughing in there. And since I am the mayor and I am the one to whom these kinds of proposals are made, I do the incorporation charter, it\u2019s now by fiat Reality Heights.
