CALLER: Hi, Rush.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Hi, how are you?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Fine. Rush, no one pulls the facts of history together like you do – and then you know how to get the hay down where the goats can get it. You can explain it to all of us.<\/p>\n
RUSH: (laughing) I like that: The goats.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yeah. Well, not that we\u2019re goats.<\/p>\n
RUSH: You just called the audience goats. (laughing) I love it.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yeah. Rush, you hear TV talking heads talk about the consequences of not raising the limit, and of course there will be some negative consequences of freezing the debt limit. The question is: “Will it be worse if we don\u2019t?” and the Republicans need to keep the focus on what happens if we don\u2019t freeze the debt limit, don\u2019t they?<\/p>\n
RUSH: Well, debt limit\u2019s gonna get raised. I think that train\u2019s left the station. I think to sit here and try to hold onto that debt limit not being raised is to waste time, \u2019cause Boehner has said it. The argument here is: What pain is gonna be inflicted on Democrats for raising the debt limit? The compromise. “What are the Democrats gonna compromise on?” in essence. So we could have an interesting discussion on this. It\u2019d be fun to talk about, you know, what Republicans should do and what would be the result of not raising the debt limit. You don\u2019t raise it, then serious cuts have to be made. You and I — assuming that you\u2019re with me on this —<\/p>\n
CALLER: Of course.<\/p>\n
RUSH: — think this is what this is all about. It\u2019s what the election last November was all about: Not spending any more money because we don\u2019t have it anyway!<\/p>\n
CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Right?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n
RUSH: So why have a debt limit if it doesn\u2019t matter?<\/p>\n
CALLER: And he\u2019s lied about everything, so why would we think that the consequences of what he says he\u2019s going to do…?<\/p>\n
RUSH: Well, that\u2019s the age-old question. Look, go back. Did you hear me read the stuff in the New York Times 1967?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Okay.<\/p>\n
CALLER: I couldn\u2019t believe it.<\/p>\n
RUSH: There\u2019s another component to that. What that means is that our side has known since 1967 what they\u2019re up against, and yet they still act blindsided every time it happens! I mean, this is curiously suspicious to me. We know. It\u2019s just like I sit here and I can tell you before Obama is immaculated, “I hope he fails,” because I know what liberals do. Why do our Republicans profess to be so surprised or ignorant about who liberals are and what they do and how they do it? It\u2019s the most frustrating thing that you can ask yourself today. We fight this every day since 1967 and even prior to that. We fought this with FDR. This is why it\u2019s all a game. The Ruling Class has its techniques, and everybody in Washington, both parties, has members in the Ruling Class. This is how the game is played. We are not Charlie Brown, but we are. The football keeps getting taken away from us every day for 40 years! Even when we win elections, they convince us we lost.<\/p>\n
CALLER: We are naive.<\/p>\n
RUSH: No. We aren\u2019t.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Well…<\/p>\n
RUSH: Elected officials. Maybe there\u2019s some naivete, but it\u2019s more than that. We\u2019re, in their eyes, the dupes. We really are. And I must say, the more we talk about it in terms they set, the more we are acting like dupes, myself included.<\/p>\n
CALLER: (laughs)<\/p>\n
RUSH: The reason we fall for it is because I feel compelled here to tell people what we\u2019re up against and how they\u2019re being manipulated, and you gotta use the language that they\u2019re using in order to blunt it and to educate people and inform people about it. Look, Chuck-U Schumer is being interviewed by Andrea Mitchell (NBC News, Washington) right now, and it\u2019s such an emergency, she\u2019s left the confines of the studio, and she\u2019s set up shop in the Capitol! It\u2019s really big now! It\u2019s really a crisis, because Andrea Mitchell left the confines of the makeup room, the confines of the greenroom, and is at the Capitol talking to Chuck-U Schumer!<\/p>\n
I guarantee you what they\u2019re saying (and I can\u2019t hear it) was said 40 years ago in same circumstances, just different people saying it. Same urgency, same tone, same crisis, same everything. I tell you, sometimes it\u2019s the smart people who look at this and say, “To hell with it, I\u2019m gonna go bowling. I\u2019m not gonna sit here and put up with this! I\u2019ve heard this every day. These people are full of whatever.” Smart people I think really (unintelligible). They say, “Politics is phony baloney, plastic banana, good-time rock ‘n\u2019 roll.” What we keep investing in is that our new electees are finally going to put the stop to the game.<\/p>\n
This is what we invest in, this is where our hope is every election: That finally when we elect a majority of people that we think are us, that all this is gonna come to a screeching halt. Then when it doesn\u2019t, we threaten third party or we\u2019re not gonna send the RNC any money (laughs) or, “Damn it, I\u2019m fed up with it, Rush! I\u2019m not playing anymore. I\u2019ll see ya later,” whatever it is. Meanwhile, the news media just laps it up. So that\u2019s why it\u2019s all frustrating, \u2019cause we keep thinking the people we elect are gonna be the stop sign. And they better be this time. They better be, because we\u2019re running out of road down which to kick the can. Thanks for the call out there. I appreciate it. Really do.
