CALLER: Hi. It\u2019s so good to talk to you again.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you. <\/p>\n

CALLER: You know, I\u2019ve been listening and all week long everybody has been talking about Libya and Khadafy and Egypt and — <\/p>\n

RUSH: You sound just like Susan Estrich on the phone. She\u2019s a friend of mine, you sound just like Susan Estrich.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I take that as a compliment. Thank you very much.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You\u2019re welcome.<\/p>\n

CALLER: You said earlier that you were afraid that today being call-in Friday just might not be quite as fun but I came up with something a little bit fun. I am so sick and tired of hearing about our first lady.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You are?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, yeah, and her fashion sense. Every time I see her and they start talking about how fashionable she is —<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right, now, you and I both —<\/p>\n

CALLER: — and the colors she wears —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: — I think about that old story, the emperor\u2019s new clothes, and I keep thinking every time she dresses in yellow I keep expecting some little kid to pop up and say she looks like a bowl of mustard. I mean I\u2019m sorry, but she never seems really to be happy. She doesn\u2019t wear her clothes with any finesse or flair. She just kind of seems to march around like a lumberjack wearing cloth boots and none of her clothes seem to fit her right and I don\u2019t know why the people in the fashion world, other than they\u2019re kowtowing and kissing butt, seem to think that —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, that\u2019s what I was gonna ask you. Given your observations here, and I would have to say that your observations I\u2019m sure are shared by many —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, from the ladies and the people I talk to —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, of course, of course.<\/p>\n

CALLER: — I think they are.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It\u2019s beyond anecdotal here. The bottom line is why do you think the reporting is so different than the reality that you see?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Do you know something? The reporting on the entire regime is different from what I\u2019ve seen. It\u2019s because most of the reporters are just a bunch of kiss butts and they get that tingle.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well —<\/p>\n

CALLER: You know, if sharp creases make for a good president, for crying out loud, —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: — any military guy could —<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, no, no, let\u2019s stick with Moochelle.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You described Moochelle in yellow as a bowl of mustard.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hm-hm.<\/p>\n

RUSH: She\u2019s not been so categorized by fashion writers or others in the dominant media. Why? The opinion you have of Mrs. Obama and her fashion choices is fairly common, I think, and yet, you\u2019re right, she\u2019s written about as a leading fashion icon, trendsetter and all that. My question to you is very simple. And, you know, I know the regime\u2019s exaggerated about and so forth. Why in the world is she written about in ways that so many people don\u2019t agree or at least question?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, it goes right back to she is the first, and I know this is gonna sound racist, but if they do it any other way they\u2019re gonna be marked as racist, probably.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, there is that element. If they are critical of her fashion choices, I\u2019m sure that there might be some fear there that the criticism stems from — \u2019cause if you criticize any of Obama\u2019s policies you\u2019re racist.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, yeah. And there are some, like, my particular skin color, I cannot wear orange.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Why?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Because it makes me look orange. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Wait a minute, now.<\/p>\n

CALLER: My cousin is a beautiful redhead. She cannot wear different shades of red. They just clash.<\/p>\n

RUSH: ‘Cause it makes her look red?<\/p>\n

CALLER: (crosstalk) — coming a mile away.<\/p>\n

RUSH: So you look orange when you wear orange, or could that not just be a reflection of the fabric on your epidermis?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. And that\u2019s why I can\u2019t wear it because it makes me look like I\u2019ve got some liver disease or something. You know.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, I\u2019m wearing orange today, I\u2019m checking the Dittocam to see&hellip; I don\u2019t look orange. I\u2019m told it\u2019s a little bit too soft of a pastel color for me, but it was the first thing that my eye found today when I was going through the closet, so I just put it on. Well, look, Laura, I appreciate the call, I really do. There\u2019s an obvious answer to my question. Sorry. I\u2019m not gonna answer it. But there is an obvious answer. I\u2019ve even answered it earlier in the week on things unrelated to fashion and so forth, but it\u2019s so simple I shouldn\u2019t have to say it. (interruption) You want me to talk about Michelle\u2019s shape? Snerdley is sharing with me that there are things about her shape that he likes. Well, I\u2019m not gonna say what I think about her shape. I\u2019m not really sure what it is. But until I know that for certain, look, I can\u2019t win this. There\u2019s no purpose here in getting into such detailed discussion, analysis of the first lady\u2019s shape. But as to why the fawning over the fashion, fashion icon, fashion leader, I mean that is so easy. I shouldn\u2019t have to answer it and I\u2019m not going to. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, sir. Love you, Rush, and I agree with everything you say. I\u2019m gonna go ahead and answer the question that everybody is wanting you to answer. I\u2019m gonna answer it for you, why they keep covering Michelle with all this positive fashion press. I know the word you\u2019re talking about.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Let me hear it. What\u2019s the word?<\/p>\n

CALLER: The word is pity. They feel sorry for her. If you ask me she looks like she\u2019s a little girl dressing up in her mama\u2019s clothes, and that\u2019s just the way I see it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You think they feel sorry for her?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Absolutely.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Why? Okay, why do they feel sorry for her?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Because she looks like a little girl dressing up in her mama\u2019s clothes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Hmm. Okay, well, I will concede that in large part sympathy drives the reporting of Moochelle Obama as a fashion icon. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Absolutely.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, but not because she looks like her mother\u2019s little girl. I disagree with your reasoning.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I see.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Don\u2019t take it personally.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing) Oh, I don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

RUSH: (laughing) I mean, don\u2019t take it personally. I don\u2019t think it has anything to do with what she\u2019s wearing. <\/p>\n

CALLER: She has nothing to bring to the table.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No. I wouldn\u2019t say that, either. She\u2019s got a garden. There\u2019s a lot that she\u2019s bringing to the table. You don\u2019t want to eat it, but she\u2019s growing it. No, no, the sympathy has other explanations to it.<\/p>\n
