RUSH: If I didn\u2019t know better… Speaking of that, you know, if I didn\u2019t know better, I would think that Tim Kaine\u2019s been thrown off the ticket and Khizr Khan has become Hillary\u2019s new running mate. <\/p>\nThis guy is getting more coverage even than Hillary is getting.  Which makes sense, because the more Hillary shows up, the worse her numbers get.  And that\u2019s the real reason they\u2019re spending so much time focusing on Trump is to not have to focus on Hillary.  Believe me. <\/line>Don\u2019t doubt me on this.  Now, what Bill Hemmer said, is he was talking to Karl Rove.  Let\u2019s see what… This headline is a good illustration of subject matter.  It\u2019s from TheHill.com.  “Priebus…” That would be Reince Priebus of the GOP, the RNC. <\/line>\n

“Priebus, Giuliani, Gingrich Plot Trump ‘Intervention\u2019 <\/a>— Top Republicans and political allies to Donald Trump are planning an ‘intervention\u2019 with the candidate following a disastrous two days and political firestorm encircling … the nominee. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Speaker [Newton] Gingrich are among those looking to talk with the businessman…” Now, didn\u2019t we assume they were talking to him every day anyway?  I mean, I thought Newt was an advisor.  I thought Rudy was an advisor. <\/p>\n

I certainly thought that the chairman of the RNC was.  Anyway, they want to do an “intervention” \u2019cause it just isn\u2019t working.  I mean, he\u2019s imploding! He won\u2019t listen to anybody! (This is what they\u2019re saying.) He won\u2019t listen to anybody! He\u2019s taking everything way too personally. He\u2019s asking people to feel sorry for him. You don\u2019t go anywhere in politics doing that.  “The group hopes to enlist Trump\u2019s children, who have proven pivotal in advising the businessman\u2019s candidacy, in their effort to get Trump back on track after days of feuding” on Trump\u2019s part. <\/p>\n

By the way, Chris Christie… This is why he was not named the VP. Chris Christie is letting it be known that he believes the way Trump is dealing with Khizr Khan is inappropriate.  So that\u2019s why… This isn\u2019t a cut on Christie, don\u2019t misunderstand.  In the role of vice presidential nominee, you\u2019ve gotta defend the nominee no matter what, and here Christie is illustrating that he would not have been able to follow through.  Bill Hemmer was talking to Karl Rove, and Rove is probably — like many people — thinking: “What in the world is going on? <\/p>\n

“This guy owned it! Trump was on top of the world, and is now just imploding.  None of what Trump\u2019s doing is making any sense.” People are coming up with theories.  Bill Hemmer asked Rove a question \u2019cause Karl was quoting from polling data and basically analyzing this from the standard, inside-the-Beltway, Washington establishment political handbook.  So Hemmer said (summarized), “Karl, what if we\u2019re all wrong about this? <\/p>\n

“What if the way you see everything that\u2019s happening is not the way the people of this country see it?  There\u2019s evidence… There\u2019s abundant evidence…” This is Hemmer talking to Rove.  He wasn\u2019t trying to entrap Rove.  It was a legitimate question.  He was saying, “Karl, what if the people in this country are so divorced now from standard, ordinary, everyday politics — they have such a distaste for it — that they have nothing in common with it anymore?<\/p>\n

“What if that the way you\u2019re looking at this is not at all the way a majority of people the country are looking at it, and certainly not the way Trump supporters see it?  What are the odds, Karl, that everything in politics has done a 180, has been turned totally upside down and all of this traditional understanding of politics has to be thrown out the window?”  I didn\u2019t get all of Karl\u2019s answer.  He, of course, rejected the premise. (interruption) Well, there\u2019s Khan again. <\/line><\/p>\n

“Gold Star Father Slams Trump for Taking Medal.”  I\u2019m telling you, this guy\u2019s out there more than Tim Kaine is out there.  Yeah, a Purple Heart winner gave Trump the medal, and Khizr Khan is profoundly offended by this, and despite telling everyone he wanted to back out and leave the media, there he is out there.  By the way, Khan shut down his website.  That was our Morning Update today.  We had a little bit of that before the end of the program yesterday. <\/p>\n

He shut down his website and he\u2019s denying that he ever had anything to do with selling visas or green cards as a way of getting people immigrated into the country.  In fact, he said he tried but I failed. (paraphrased) “I didn\u2019t succeed at that so I stepped out of it.”  But he\u2019s now bashing Trump for accepting this Purple Heart that was offered by the Purple Heart winner as a gift.  So what is the premise? What do you think of the premise that Hemmer put forth, that everything\u2019s so upside down that the manifestation of that is this.<\/p>\n

It looks to standard, ordinary, everyday political operatives like Trump is imploding. It looks like, “Oh, my God, it\u2019s a disaster! Oh, gee, this guy is just all over the map, doesn\u2019t have a message anymore.”  But out there Trump is the vessel for the gazillions of people who are fed up with politics-as-usual and want no part of it.  And they don\u2019t care.  None of this traditional analysis of Trump imploding. Trump blowing it. Trump going off message.  That was the premise behind Hemmer\u2019s question, \u2019cause I don\u2019t know how he feels about it.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Of course, he\u2019s an objective journalist, but you wonder. You know that people in traditional politics are scratching their heads, and they have been.  And they are trying… There\u2019s another story here in the Stack that another group of Republicans has launched a brand-new effort to find a way to get Trump off the presidential ballot, and there\u2019s a story with a list of new Republicans publicly saying they\u2019re voting for Hillary.  You go through the list; it\u2019s not a bunch of big names.  Most of the names you wouldn\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

But they are big in the bowels of the GOP.  There\u2019s one elected official, and he\u2019s a congressman from New York.  I think his last name is Hanna.  The name added to the list today is Meg Whitman, who was on McCain\u2019s short list to be vice president.  She\u2019s always been a RINO or a moderate Republican. She never has been a conservative.  It\u2019s not at all shocking that Meg Whitman would vote for Hillary.  <\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH:  I have a taker.  I have Donald in Ocean City, Maryland, who wants to tackle the Bill Hemmer question.  Have at it, Donald.  How are you?<\/p>\n

CALLER:  I\u2019m doing fine.  How are you, Rush?<\/p>\n

RUSH:  Very well.<\/p>\n

CALLER:  Mega dittos.<\/p>\n

RUSH:  Thank you el mucho.  A little Spanish lingo. <\/p>\n

CALLER:  I just want to say that it\u2019s very frustrating as a Trump supporter to see what the media does, but I expected that, and I continue to expect it.  I think Mr. Trump connects with the average person in America, and I don\u2019t at all see any problem with what he\u2019s done here.  I just see this as one of the many situations that he\u2019s faced going all the way back to the primary campaign in early February, and I think it will all blow over. <\/p>\n

RUSH:  Wait a minute, wait a minute.  What will blow over?<\/p>\n

CALLER:  The Khan situation with the things that the Democrats are trying to pull here.  Mrs. Clinton doesn\u2019t have any issues to run on.  The economy is terrible.  Our foreign policy is in a shambles.  And what they\u2019re trying to do is run a campaign of distraction that just won\u2019t work with the American on the street.<\/p>\n

RUSH:  Well, if you\u2019re right, the professional political analysts in Washington are missing it big time, because what they see is Mr. Trump imploding.  They see Trump actually losing the election this week.  They see him almost purposely self-destructing.<\/p>\n

CALLER:  You know, we\u2019ve heard that.<\/p>\n

RUSH:  They don\u2019t understand it. They can\u2019t make sense of it. They don\u2019t know why he\u2019s not attacking Hillary. They don\u2019t know why he\u2019s not saying what you just said.  Why didn\u2019t he go after Hillary Clinton?<\/line><\/p>\n

CALLER:  I listen to your show regularly all the time, and I think that you more than any other personality in the media has understood Mr. Trump going all the way back when he announced his candidacy.<\/p>\n

RUSH:  I do, no question about it.  I understand this backwards, forwards, upwards, downwards, upside down, inside out.  I know Trump like the back of my hand. <\/p>\n

CALLER:  There\u2019s been a lot of situations where the media elites have thought that his campaign was gonna blow up.  And within a matter of days or a couple of weeks, it seems to be forgotten about —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Look, I\u2019m not trying to be a wet blanket here, but in every one of those instances Trump\u2019s poll numbers remained high and he was skunking everybody in the Republican primaries.  In this instance Hillary has got a bounce out of her convention, she\u2019s back on top by a significant number.  Trump is not.  And these people will tell you that he\u2019s continuing to lose ground, not closing the gap.<\/p>\n

CALLER:  Can I make one final observation with you?<\/p>\n

RUSH:  Sure.  By all means.<\/p>\nCALLER:  A Clinton has always over-polled.  If you go back and look at the 1992 race with President Bush, even though he lost, and in<\/line>1996 there was a huge under-poll with —<\/line>\n

RUSH:  But he still won.  Look, we gotta face reality here.  Yeah, maybe the Clintons over-poll, but they win.  Bill Clinton\u2019s won every ballot he\u2019s been on.  So has Hillary.  Did Hillary lose anything?  Well, \u201908, she lost the nomination in \u201908.  It might be interesting to study that, and we think we know why.  But they may under-poll, over-poll or whatever, but they win. <\/line><\/p>\n

As I say, I\u2019m not trying to be a wet blanket.  <\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH:  Paul Manafort, Trump\u2019s campaign manager, was on Happening Now today on the Fox News Channel, and Jon Scott was interviewing him, said, “There\u2019s another report out there that there\u2019s supposed to be some kind of campaign intervention this weekend. People like Rudy Giuliani, Newt Gingrich, you, Reince Priebus, the Trump children, are gonna sit down with Trump, you\u2019re gonna intervene, you\u2019re gonna tell him where he\u2019s going wrong, gonna try to get him refocused and start aiming fire at Hillary instead of fellow Republicans like Paul Ryan.  Is there any truth to this, Mr. Manafort?”<\/p>\n

MANAFORT:  This is the first I\u2019m hearing of that.  The candidate — watch him this afternoon.  He\u2019s gonna be talking about this $400 million Iran secret payment. He\u2019s gonna be talking about Hillary Clinton\u2019s failed leadership as secretary of state.  The only need we have for an intervention is maybe with some media types who keep saying things that aren\u2019t true.<\/p>\n

SCOTT:  But there was that email sent out to members of Congress saying let\u2019s put this Khan controversy behind us, let\u2019s try and focus our efforts on other areas, and yet the candidate himself continues to bring that up.<\/p>\n

MANAFORT:  The candidate wanted to make clear two things on the Khan situation and we\u2019ve put it behind us, frankly.<\/p>\n

RUSH:  Can they put it behind them?  What if Khan keeps going on TV?  I mean, Khan said he was tired of it, he wanted to shrink back to private life, but he\u2019s on TV every day at CNN.  How can they put it behind him if he\u2019s out there leveling attacks?  Now Khan is out there demanding that Trump give back the Purple Heart that the veteran gave him.  I\u2019m telling you, Khan looks more like a vice presidential nominee and a running mate than Tim Kaine does.  <\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH:  You know, this is a good point.  Wait a minute.  That\u2019s not what I want.  Here it is.  You know who Rob O\u2019Neill is?  Yes or no?  SEAL Team Six, pulled the trigger on bin Laden.  Fox News contributor.  He was on Lou Dobbs\u2019 show last night<\/a>, which is called Lou Dobbs Tonight.  That means it\u2019s the eponymous Lou Dobbs show. <\/p>\n

You know what eponymous means?  It means it\u2019s named after the guy who hosts the show.  A show named after you.  The eponymous Lou Dobbs show, means it\u2019s the Lou Dobbs show.  The eponymous Rush Limbaugh Show, or the eponymous EIB Network.  It\u2019s just a word people use to make you feel stupid that you know and they don\u2019t \u2019cause it\u2019s redundant.  The eponymous Lou Dobbs.  Why are you telling me eponymous, when you\u2019re already telling me it\u2019s the Lou Dobbs show? <\/p>\n

Anyway, Rob O\u2019Neill appeared on the program, he\u2019s former SEAL Team Six.  He pointed out the timing of Khizr Khan\u2019s participation in presidential elections.  And he said, it\u2019s obvious to him, to O\u2019Neill, that Khizr Khan is not some random parent plucked by the Democrats from relative obscurity.  He instead is part of the Clinton machine.  And O\u2019Neill\u2019s reasoning is, “It\u2019s unfortunate. They shouldn\u2019t be politicizing it. And there was no mistake he came out for the Clintons. He\u2019s worked for the Clintons before and there have been three presidential elections since his son was killed.”  They could have come out during any one of them.  But we never heard of this man until Hillary Clinton runs.  And it makes sense. <\/p>\n

I think that\u2019s a perceptive comment if you want to illustrate that Khizr Khan is not who he is.  I mean, he had a son, he lost his son, so, yeah, but he\u2019s a Clinton party operative now.  And the Democrats don\u2019t present him that way.  They present him as your average, ordinary American parent who tragically lost a son at war who was so moved by Hillary that he asked to be heard, and they said okay, when it\u2019s nothing like that.  It\u2019s part of the illusion.  The Democrats use people.  Although I\u2019m sure he was willing to be. <\/line><\/p>\n

But O\u2019Neill said, this is the election, of three of them, this is the one he comes out for, this is the one he decides to start opining on?  “This is part of the Clinton machine. There\u2019s no mistake that Mr. Trump was interviewed by George Stephanopoulos. He\u2019s in the Clinton camp as well and this is how Clinton politics work.”<\/p>\n

Exactly right.  O\u2019Neill\u2019s a man right after my heart.  That\u2019s my whole point about Stephanopoulos.  It has been ever since Romney.  Even before Romney.  If you go on Stephanopoulos\u2019 show you are essentially accepting an invitation from the Clinton war room.  You are accepting an invitation from the Clinton hacks. <\/p>\n

David Westin I think was the news director at ABC who hired Stephanopoulos.  I don\u2019t know if Stephanopoulos was hired before Westin.  Westin\u2019s no longer there.  The reason I mention this is because David Westin\u2019s name has been tossed around as Roger Ailes\u2019 replacement at Fox News.  How would you like that?  He\u2019s just one of many names that have been mentioned. <\/p>\n

I hope it\u2019s Bill Shine, but there\u2019s a lot of — Ben Rhodes.  No, Ben Rhodes is in the White House, his brother, whoever runs CBS News.  There\u2019s a lot of names being bandied about, but I think it was Westin who hired Stephanopoulos.  Yeah, I think it was Westin.  I think it was Westin.  I don\u2019t know who was there before Westin.  I could be wrong about it.  But Westin was there when Stephanopoulos was and loved the fact that he was there.  <\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
