RUSH: So grab sound bites 18 and 19.  I was at home last night, and I thought I was watching outtakes from a Beyonce video before I realized it was Charlotte, and I get an email from a friend of mine ranking in Republican Party politics of some years ago, not at the present. He said, “You won\u2019t believe this. You have got to watch Bill Kristol on Fox.  It is hilarious.”  Well, I didn\u2019t have Fox on, and it had already happened.  So I wrote back.  I said, “Well, what happened?  I didn\u2019t see it.”  “Well, go find it and stream it.” <\/p>\n

I said, “Well, this is not helpful.  Just tell me what happened.” <\/p>\nSo I never found out last night what happened, and I got in here and, lo and behold, Cookie had it on the sound bite roster.  It is pretty good.  Bill Kristol was on with Brit Hume last night.  This is seven p.m. Eastern hour on the Fox News Channel, and Kristol is really worried.  Now, remember, the note I got last night from a former ranking… <\/line>Not a party official. It\u2019s a former ranking official for a particular former ranking Republican bigwig. <\/line>\n

And the note was, “You gotta see! You gotta see what Kristol did!”  Of course, with no more than that.  So I don\u2019t know. I have nothing to go on.  Well, it turns out that Kristol is panicked because he\u2019s thinking Hillary might lose.  A leading Republican, conservative pundit… Well, here.  Let\u2019s just listen to it.  I don\u2019t need to characterize it before you\u2019ve heard it.  Brit Hume says to Bill Kristol, “You have been warming some of your conservative colleagues that Trump\u2019s chances look better than people thought.  What tipped you off?  What gave you your view?”<\/p>\n

KRISTOL:  She\u2019s had a very rough couple of weeks.  He made himself look more presidential and more acceptable.  When you\u2019re in a change environment, people will excuse a lot of flaws of the change candidates.  When a change environment the candidate of change has a big advantage.  The wind is naturally at his back, and Hillary Clinton is the status quo candidate.  They\u2019re really mystified by her campaign.  If you ask people — and I\u2019m really not saying this in a polemical way, just analytically — “What changes will Hillary Clinton bring about?” what is the answer?<\/p>\n

RUSH:  He\u2019s worried.  This is a conservative magazine publisher worried that Hillary\u2019s blowing it, and he says he\u2019s mystified by her campaign.  Bill, it\u2019s not hard to understand what\u2019s going on.  By the way, none of this means Trump\u2019s gonna end up winning.  Who knows? I\u2019m not counting any chickens having hatched here yet.  But I\u2019m not in the crowd that is worried if Hillary is performing poorly.  I applaud that.  I get excited when I think that Hillary is in the process of blowing it and is fading. <\/p>\n

But these people on our side are getting concerned that she\u2019s gonna blow it, and now they\u2019re saying they don\u2019t understand her campaign.  They\u2019re really mystified.  It\u2019s not hard to understand, Bill.  Now, I don\u2019t mean to sound condescending at all.  I\u2019m just… You have to step out of the political realm that we\u2019ve all been in all of our lives, because Trump\u2019s not in it.  So a standard, ordinary, Washington establishment campaign with the requisite consultants and the proper fundraising and the allocation and the focus groups and the polling, it\u2019s not applicable. <\/p>\n
