RUSH: A.B. Stoddard is on Fox right now warning people, do not believe the polls yet; they may not be as predictive as they look.  And it is exactly as I said last hour.<\/a> <\/p>\n

Folks, I implore you to do your best here not to get dragged down to the depths of depression and defeat and fatalism.  Do not do it yet.  Now, I don\u2019t know what A.B. Stoddard said.  I just saw the graphic underneath her while she was speaking, and the graphic said she was warning people that the polls may not be as predictive as they look. Which is a way of saying that this race may not be nearly as one-sided for Hillary as it looks right now. <\/p>\n

Don\u2019t forget, there is an undeniable truth in politics, and it is this:  Polling data is used to shape public opinion.  Polling data… Whether it\u2019s presidential races or anything else, if it\u2019s a poll, it is being used to make news.  Polling has become the mechanism by which the media can write their own stories, can set their own agenda, and make it look like they\u2019ve got nothing to do with it.  The polls have these reputations of independent, nonpartisan, bipartisan, uninterested in the outcome. <\/p>\n

“Why, we don\u2019t do anything funny with our polls.  We just go out there, we try to find the best sample we can, and try to give you the most accurate presentation we can, and that\u2019s it.” But they use polls to make and shape public opinion and they will do so until a week before the election.  Pay attention to the polls in the last five days.  That\u2019s where the pollsters will want to actually have it right.  And I\u2019m just telling you, I don\u2019t want you to be surprised if we get down to 10 days and five days and these polls show a sudden surge by Trump that they can\u2019t figure out, they\u2019ll say.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ll say, “Something\u2019s happening out there,” to each other. “Something\u2019s going! We are missing something. What\u2019s going on?”  When there isn\u2019t anything going on.  It\u2019s always been this way.  They are constructing an entire narrative that Trump\u2019s losing it, that people are turning away from Trump, that Trump\u2019s supporters are abandoning him, because Trump is guilty of whatever crimes against women. He\u2019s the sexual abuser; he\u2019s a sexual assaulter.<\/line><\/p>\n

This is what they\u2019re trying to say, and people are abandoning Trump in droves.  They\u2019re trying to make that happen.  Who knows?  We don\u2019t know whether it\u2019s being effective but they are trying to do it.  But I\u2019m telling you, with A.B. Stoddard out there warning everybody to be a little suspicious of polls… <\/p>\n

RUSH: A.B. Stoddard on Fox from TheHill.com mentioned about a half hour ago that the polling data that we see right now may not be entirely predictive.  It\u2019s her way of saying that she doesn\u2019t think the race is this far in Hillary\u2019s favor and is nowhere near over.<\/p>\n

And I want to take her occasion of making that comment to remind you again that all of these polls are being used to suppress support for Trump.  They are being used to encourage people to abandon Trump.  They\u2019re being used to encourage Trump to abandon his campaign.  Their purpose is to dispirit and depress everyone and convince as many people as possible that it\u2019s over, that Trump is a buffoon and has no chance whatsoever, all of it\u2019s a waste of time, they might as well concede now and you might as well concede now.  That\u2019s the purpose of it. <\/p>\n

The pollsters, about five to seven days out, is when they issue their last poll or the last two polls before the election. Those are the ones you really look at, because they are the polls their reputations will be staked to, and every polling unit at the end of a campaign wants to be trusted and reliable, they want to be shown to be right. <\/p>\n

So if the polls a week out show the race much closer than the polls today show it, what the Drive-Bys will say is that there has been a massive shift in public opinion, that Trump is coming on strong. And there will be stories trying to figure out why, stories filled with analysts, analysis and commentary to explain where Trump turned the corner and what it was about and so forth. When in fact it may never have been as bad as they portrayed and it may never have required such a huge turnaround as they will say is taking place. <\/line><\/p>\n

All of this is still possible is my point.  There is nobody who knows how this is gonna turn out.  The pollsters want you to think they do know.  The Democrats want you to think they do know.  Republican consultants and establishment types who have no interest in Trump winning, they want you to think the race is over, they want you to think they know what\u2019s gonna happen.  And all of these people want you to believe they know why it\u2019s gonna happen.  And the reason Trump\u2019s gonna happen is \u2019cause Trump\u2019s a reprobate and a loser and a general wandering shred of human debris. Because the real point is, they can\u2019t convince people to vote for Hillary. <\/p>\n

This is a race where their objective, the Clinton campaign, which includes the media and the White House and the Department of Justice and every other government organization and affiliate, their objective is to make Trump more unlikable than Hillary.  Her negatives are already higher than any other candidate who\u2019s ever been elected president. <\/p>\n

They can\u2019t turn that around.  They can\u2019t make her liked.  They can\u2019t raise her favorable numbers.  She can\u2019t do it herself.  She\u2019s had two debate appearances, and there\u2019s nothing there that makes people go, “Yeah, yeah, man, I want this. I want more of this. Yeah, I want what she\u2019s saying.”  She doesn\u2019t inspire any of that.  So everything here, as far as they are concerned in terms of strategy, opposition research, is to try to make Trump hated, more unliked, more suspected than Hillary is. <\/p>\n

You\u2019ll even see them acknowledge that the campaign is actually, at times a campaign of the lesser of two evils, because they know on the Hillary side that they can\u2019t turn her into a net positive.  They just can\u2019t do it.  She doesn\u2019t have those characteristics.  She doesn\u2019t have that track record.  She doesn\u2019t have that resume.  So that\u2019s why the pile-on on Trump, plus the fact that that\u2019s the standard, ordinary everyday operating tactic anyway with any Republican candidate. <\/p>\n

CALLER:  Hi, Rush.  I first want to thank you for your honesty and how much you mean to me, because I no longer can watch the media.  I cannot.  I\u2019m like 69 years old, I\u2019m retired, I pay a lot of attention, and until I put you on, it\u2019s the only time I get a straight answer from anybody.  I am done with it.  I am a Trump fan.  I believe in him.  I believe he can make a difference, and I just want to thank you, because I will no longer have that TV on ever again.  I\u2019m tired.<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH:  Jacqueline, I appreciate it.  Let me tell you something.  I say frequently here that I don\u2019t watch news, cable news, any of it, anywhere near regularly.  There are a host of reasons, all of which I have shared.  The primary reason is that I never discover anything I don\u2019t already know.  I never hear an opinion I haven\u2019t already considered.  And too much of it is predictable; formatically it\u2019s predictable.  Content is predictable. <\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t read the New York Times in 15 years.  I don\u2019t have to.  And every time somebody calls attention to a story in the New York Times, I\u2019m reminded why I don\u2019t read it.  The New York Times has no effect on me.  The New York Times cannot change my mind about anything.  The New York Times is not a newspaper, at least when it comes to the sections on American politics.  What they do with foreign policy stories and sports, I couldn\u2019t tell you.  But when it comes to the American domestic political scene, I know what I\u2019m gonna read before I read it, and I don\u2019t want to get mad, I don\u2019t want to get depressed, I don\u2019t want to get ticked off.<\/p>\n

And I don\u2019t watch CNN for the same reasons.  I just don\u2019t watch any of it.  I haven\u2019t watched World News Tonight or the evening news or a Sunday morning show in I can\u2019t tell you — the last Sunday morning show I watched was the one I was on, Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.  Other than that, I just don\u2019t.  It\u2019s for a combination of reasons, as I say.  Number one, it isn\u2019t news anymore.  I know that the things I believe in and the people I believe in are gonna be savaged.  They\u2019re gonna be unfairly criticized. I know that I\u2019m gonna be.  I know that if I ever show up, I\u2019m going to savaged and lied about and besmirched, you name it. <\/p>\n

But the main thing is, it\u2019s predictable.  You know what it\u2019s gonna be because it isn\u2019t news.  News ought not be predictable.  The news is something that happened that you don\u2019t know about.  Journalism is people telling you what happened where you weren\u2019t so that you know what it is.  Well, how in the world can it be journalism if you know what\u2019s coming?  You know what\u2019s gonna happen when you turn on CNN.  You may not know who the guests are gonna be, and you may not know specifically what they\u2019re gonna say, but you know what the tone of it\u2019s gonna be.  Ditto PMSNBC. <\/line><\/p>\n

In fact, if I do watch it, I get even angrier because I\u2019ll see what I happened to see today.  There is an absolute reprobate leftist who is responsible for more character assassination and damage via his website than almost all of them.  And I watch Republicans and conservatives regularly sit next to him and appear with him and agree with him.  Why do I want to watch this tripe?  Why would I want to read establishment Republicans sidling up to Democrats so that they can maintain their proper membership in the establishment, who won\u2019t even unify around the concept of defeating Hillary Clinton. <\/p>\n

Why do you want to read that?  Why do you want watch it?  Why do you want to expose yourself to people who want to be treated with great respect and get great accolades because they cannot, because of principle, they cannot join the effort to defeat Hillary Clinton because of the reprobate Trump.  Sorry, I just don\u2019t want to watch it.  I don\u2019t want to read it.  I don\u2019t want to have them explain why \u2019cause I already know. <\/p>\n

So I\u2019m a lot happier.  If you want to know why I remain optimistic it\u2019s because I do not immerse myself in the single greatest source of pessimism and depression that exists in American media, and that\u2019s today\u2019s news media.  I avoid it.  “How do you prep the show, Rush?”  I have my ways, folks, but most of show prep today, you know what it really is?  It\u2019s catching up on events and then remembering what I already know about the people and what they mean and what they want, the left. <\/p>\n

Once you understand who they are, once you understand liberalism, once you understand what Big Government leftists are, 90% of your work is done.  The rest of it\u2019s just applying what you know to whatever events of the day are taking place, and then trying to find a way to explain that to people who don\u2019t see it.  And that\u2019s what we do here.  <\/p>\n

So really hope you\u2019re right with what\u2019s gonna be happening in the election.  And I hope you haven\u2019t… (chuckles) I haven\u2019t fallen into your trap of trying to convince you that perhaps replacing Trump at the top of the ticket is the right way forward.  You might think that the media wins by doing that. But I don\u2019t think they do because they want to damage Trump at the top of the ticket going against Hillary.  All the allegations just keep damaging him and making him a worse candidate.<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH:  Okay.<\/p>\n

CALLER:  While it emboldens me and emboldens you to vote for him, that\u2019s not true of everybody else who\u2019s kind of disgusted by his behavior.<\/p>\n

RUSH:  Let me tackle this because — and I\u2019ve got 30 seconds to do this — in the first place, the mechanism to do that, there isn\u2019t time, and it would not be automatic that Pence would be the replacement.  I mean, you\u2019d have a bunch of conservative commentators and other Republicans, “Well, if you\u2019re gonna get rid of Trump you gotta get rid of the ticket and put somebody else in there!”  It\u2019d be a big fight.  Here\u2019s the thing.  Whoever, if this were to ever happen, would get the same treatment that Trump is getting.  They\u2019d be called Trump Jr. or somebody couldn\u2019t… They\u2019re gonna do the same thing to anybody that gets the nomination. Always!<\/p>\n
