CALLER: Well, I think that it\u2019s the same thing. The election results, you know, if he\u2019s, you know, got an inkling that the election results need to be challenged, and yet at the same time the Republicans are challenging their own candidate by turning their backs on him. <\/p>\n
RUSH: Okay. I\u2019m not sure that those two things are the same thing. Here\u2019s something I could address. I\u2019ve not heard Trump say he doesn\u2019t trust the election. What Trump has said — it was in a presidential debate. They tried to make a big deal out of this. They wanted him on that night to concede the election. They wanted him to say, that night, which was two weeks out, or three, whenever the last debate was, that he would abide by the election results. And he reserved the right to wait and see what happened, which is the only sensible thing to say. <\/p>\n
If Trump had said that night on stage in the debate with Mrs. Clinton, that he will accept the outcome, the headlines the next day: Trump concedes defeat. Trump concedes election. It was a setup. It wasn\u2019t so much a setup. I\u2019m not accusing Chris Wallace of a setup. But the question, it was aimed to try to get Trump to say publicly that he thinks the election\u2019s rigged, because he\u2019s been saying it on the trail. They wanted him to say it in the debate and he didn\u2019t say it in the debate. So he\u2019s not saying that by fiat or automatically he\u2019s going to challenge the results of the election. <\/p>\n
Now, you are saying that the Republicans, by not supporting him, is the same thing, and that\u2019s what I don\u2019t get. I don\u2019t get the analogy there. But it could be I\u2019m just too thick today and looking in different directions than you are. But I don\u2019t even think it\u2019s a factor yet. We\u2019re not going to know. It could be the Democrats that challenge — hell, they\u2019re the ones that challenge the election outcomes. The whole thing. It was wise that Trump answered the way he did, because I\u2019m telling you if he had said, “Oh, no, I\u2019ll be perfectly fine with the results, of course I will concede if I lose.” Well, they would have reported, “Donald Trump has just admitted he\u2019s going to lose the election. He\u2019s agreed he will concede,” is what they wanted to write. <\/p>\n
Now, the lack of Republican support for Trump, now that we can get our teeth into, and I\u2019m telling you no matter whether he wins or loses, folks, there\u2019s a civil war coming on the Republican side of the aisle. And it\u2019s going to be big, whether he wins or loses. It will take a different form or direction depending on whether he wins or loses, but it is going to happen.
