RUSH: My friends, the Drive-By Media cannot get over itself.\u00a0 They are still having kittens over the Trump press conference yesterday,<\/a> and, specifically, they are having kittens over Trump\u2019s treatment of the CNN reporter Jim Acosta.\u00a0 This is the guy that, during the press conference yesterday, kept trying to ask Trump a question and then eventually demanded that Trump answer his question. And Trump said, “No.\u00a0 I\u2019m not taking your question.\u00a0 You\u2019re ‘fake news.'”\u00a0 And I loved it.<\/p>\n

The Drive-Bys have just gone purple over this notion of “fake news.” \u00a0And you want to hear an example of success?\u00a0 Dean Baquet, who is the executive editor at the New York Times, has announced that they are going to ban the term “fake news.”\u00a0 He said he\u2019s planning to ban the term “fake news.”<\/p>\n

He said: “I never really liked the term — it\u2019s an oxymoron. I think we should retire the term. It has become a shorthand for a whole range of stuff.”\u00a0 Grab sound bite number 12.\u00a0 Seth Meyers last night on his NBC-late-night entry, the eponymously named Late Night with Seth Meyers. He had this to say about it.<\/p>\n

MEYERS:\u00a0 Today Trump called these new reports “fake news.” \u00a0So despite an incredibly short run, I think it is time to retire that term.\u00a0 It used to be one thing, but now everyone is using it for everything.\u00a0 “Fake news” as a term is busted.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Let me tell you what\u2019s busted.\u00a0 What\u2019s busted is the left\u2019s attempted exclusive use of it to describe me, to describe Fox News, to describe conservative media anywhere.\u00a0 They set up the term “fake news” to discredit and impugn anybody not themselves.\u00a0 Things are not going their way.\u00a0 They\u2019re stepping in it no matter what they do.<\/p>\n

So the term fake news — we actually used the term “fake news” ten years ago.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got audio sound bites. We\u2019ve got parodies where we\u2019ve used the term.\u00a0 But they think they invented it and they think they invented it to discredit and impugn anybody but them.\u00a0 And it\u2019s backfired on \u2019em, because now the president-elect has called them “fake news.” \u00a0And that\u2019s why they\u2019re banning it because it\u2019s backtracked on \u2019em, it\u2019s boomeranged on \u2019em and they are the ones now accused of in the public mind of broadcasting, harboring, reporting “fake news.”<\/p>\n

So of course they want to get rid of it.\u00a0 They want to get rid of it because it\u2019s been used to describe them.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go back in time because this was so good. Let\u2019s go back in time and relive this.\u00a0 This is the segment yesterday.\u00a0 It\u2019s an iconic moment.\u00a0 We will preserve this as an historical item in our Grooveyard of Forgotten Sound Bites.\u00a0 This is how it happened about 24 hours ago.\u00a0 We JIP\u2019ed that press conference, and it happened near the end of it.<\/p>\n
