SCHMIDT: A Sunday sermon from Senator John Kerry.<\/p>\nRUSH: All right, yesterday there was a big televised rally between churches. The Family Values Coalition — I\u2019m not sure the name of the group that did that. I\u2019m having a mental block. I know who they are, don\u2019t get upset, but they\u2019re trying to focus attention on the fact that the problem with these nominees as far as liberals are concerned is that they\u2019re people of faith. They\u2019re too religious. They\u2019re either Catholic, they\u2019re too Christian or what have you. The left won\u2019t admit this. So Frist agreed to appear on this program and the Democrats lost their minds. They went nuts, “He has no business appearing in church, separation of church and state. This is absolutely crazy. This is going to come back and backfire on him.” This is what Frist said.<\/p>\n
FRIST: Tell them to do what\u2019s right. Tell them to do what\u2019s fair. Tell them to do their job. Give judicial nominees the up-or-down votes they deserve. My Democratic counterpart, Senator Reid, calls me a radical Republican. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s radical to ask senators to vote. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s radical to expect senators to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s radical to restore precedents that worked so well for 214 years.<\/p>\n
RUSH: He didn\u2019t talk about religion once. He didn\u2019t mention God, didn\u2019t do any of that. The Democrats had a conniption, “This is horrible. He can\u2019t do that. Separation of church and state.” Can we go back last fall before the election? I have a portion of an ABC News report by Bob Schmidt on then-candidate Kerry.<\/p>\n

KERRY: Since grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.<\/p>\n
SCHMIDT: Standing before the predominantly black congregation of a Baptist church in Miami, joined by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, Kerry invoked the words of the 115th psalm in reference to the Bush administration, the words, “They have eyes but they don\u2019t see and they have ears but they don\u2019t hear.” Earlier, Senator Kerry, a practicing Catholic, took part in mass with a mostly Haitian-American congregation in North Miami. RUSH: Oh, yeah, and everything was cool. Everything was fine. He went out there and made a speech and he\u2019s quoting the 115th psalm and he says, “‘Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far and grace will lead me home.” And it did, right back to Boston, ladies and gentlemen, and there wasn\u2019t an outcry. There was nobody upset, and it was happening all over the place. Then he went to Catholic mass and celebrated with a Haitian-American congregation in North Miami. So you see Frist can\u2019t appear on videotape in one of these conferences that\u2019s broadcast from church to church, but Democratic candidates can go into church all day long and give sermons and quote scripture while they\u2019re asking for votes, and the left has no problem with it whatsoever.<\/p>\n
