And I don\u2019t understand this, but NBC has released a lot of it. Not the whole thing. Like CNN aired three different excerpts. Why would you do this? I mean, why wouldn\u2019t you hold it all for original broadcast on the NBC Nightly News? Well, I know what they\u2019re thinking. Their thinking is that they can tease people to tune in and watch the whole thing if they give them just a few snippets. But if you choose the wrong snippets and you give the primary interest people have, then there\u2019s gonna be no reason to watch the whole thing.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s just me. That\u2019s old school broadcast thinking. If I had an exclusive like this, I wouldn\u2019t do it anywhere else except this show. I mean, I wouldn\u2019t even put a little excerpt out. Maybe on my website. Maybe. But I certainly wouldn\u2019t give it to anybody else. But that\u2019s how the establishment works.<\/p>\n<p>BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: Now, let\u2019s go to Lester Holt, the interview with Trump. As I say, we have three bites. First bite, Lester Holt says, &#8220;Monday you met with the deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein. Did you ask for recommendations?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3QImPqK33fU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>THE PRESIDENT: What I did is I was going fire Comey. My decision. It was not &#8212;<\/p>\n<p>HOLT: You had made the decision before they gave it to you?<\/p>\n<p>THE PRESIDENT: I was going fire Comey. There is no good time to do it, by the way. They &#8212;<\/p>\n<p>HOLT: Because in your letter you said, &#8220;I have accepted&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>THE PRESIDENT: They were around &#8212;<\/p>\n<p>HOLT: &#8220;&#8230;accepted their recommendation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>THE PRESIDENT: Yeah, well, they also &#8212;<\/p>\n<p>HOLT: So you\u2019d already made the decision!<\/p>\n<p>THE PRESIDENT: Oh, I was gonna fire regardless of recommendation.<\/p>\n<p>HOLT: So there was (unintelligible).<\/p>\n<p>THE PRESIDENT: He made a recommendation. He\u2019s highly respected, very good guy, very smart guy. The Democrats like him; the Republicans like him. He made a recommendation. But regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: Now, the media has also reported that the White House tried to dump on Rosenstein, that the White House said, &#8220;Oh, Rosenstein sent us this memo! I looked at the memo and said, &#8216;This guy\u2019s gotta go!'&#8221; And then they had a story that Rosenstein was saying (paraphrased), &#8220;I almost resigned when I saw them try to lay this off on me.&#8221; There\u2019s so much BS out there. This is&#8230; It\u2019s just beyond the pale, the literal fake news. This next is classic Trump. Lester Holt says, &#8220;Your termination letter to Mr. Comey. You wrote, &#8216;I greatly appreciate you informing me on three separate occasions that I am not under investigation.\u2019 Why did you put that in there, Mr. President.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>THE PRESIDENT: Because he told me that. I mean, he told me that.<\/p>\n<p>HOLT: He told you you weren\u2019t under investigation regarding the Russian investigation?<\/p>\n<p>THE PRESIDENT: Yeah, and I\u2019ve heard that &#8212; I\u2019ve heard that from others.<\/p>\n<p>HOLT: Was it in a phone call? Did you meet face-to-face?<\/p>\n<p>THE PRESIDENT: I had dinner with him. He wanted to have dinner because he wanted to stay on. We had a very nice dinner at the White House early on.<\/p>\n<p>HOLT: He &#8212; he asked for the dinner?<\/p>\n<p>THE PRESIDENT: The dinner was arranged. I think he asked for the dinner. And he wanted to stay on as the FBI head. And I said, you know, &#8220;I\u2019ll consider. We\u2019ll see what happens.&#8221; But we had a very nice dinner. And at that time he told me you are not under investigation, which I knew anyway.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-233157\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/650-051117-Trump-Holt-NBC.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/650-051117-Trump-Holt-NBC.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/650-051117-Trump-Holt-NBC-300x144.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/>RUSH: Now, the media\u2019s trying to tell you that this is made up, that Comey would not have told Trump this. At the committee hearing today, somebody asked McCabe, &#8220;Would you ever tell the target that he was not under investigation?&#8221; &#8220;No, I don\u2019t think we\u2019d would that, Senator.&#8221; &#8220;Would you tell somebody that they are a target?&#8221; &#8220;Well, no, I don\u2019t think. Sometimes.&#8221; &#8220;But, but, Mr. McCabe, don\u2019t sometimes people get target letters?&#8221; &#8220;Sometimes, but it\u2019s not our policy to identity targets. We at the Department of Justice&#8230; We&#8230; We&#8230; No, we don\u2019t inform people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Where they were going with this was they were trying to get McCabe to say anything that they could interpret as Trump\u2019s lying about this. They want to be able to say that Comey never told Trump he wasn\u2019t being investigated. They want to try to make anybody and everybody they can believe that Trump is lying and making this up, and he made it up and lied about it so boldly that he put it in the resignation letter to Comey! So he doubles down on it today! &#8220;Yeah, Comey told me at dinner! He asked to come to dinner; he wanted to try to stay on.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He told me three times I wasn\u2019t under investigation. I knew it anyway.&#8221; And hear me! Hear me! He wasn\u2019t and isn\u2019t. It\u2019s not a criminal investigation, folks. It\u2019s a counterintelligence investigation. It\u2019s a big difference. They\u2019re not looking at criminal activity here, particularly at Trump. Everybody is hoping they find some. That\u2019s what makes this so outrageous! It is a witch-hunt, a fishing scheme. Who knows whatever else this is, but there isn\u2019t any evidence of criminality, and there isn\u2019t any evidence of collusion yet.<\/p>\n<p>So the important thing here is Trump doubled down on it. He mentions it to Lester Holt (paraphrased), &#8220;Yeah, he told me three times at dinner. He wanted to have dinner! I had him over here to dinner. It\u2019s a nice place to have dinner, the White House, very luxurious. We\u2019ve got a great residence here, a great chef. Why not? He wants come dinner; he comes to dinner. He told me three times I\u2019m not under investigation.&#8221; Now, the media wants you to think that Trump is so insane that he would lie about that.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-233161\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Trump.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"310\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Trump.jpg 310w, https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Trump-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Trump-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 310px) 100vw, 310px\" \/>They want you to believe that he is literally sick and insane and would tell things are not true and know full-well they\u2019re not. That\u2019s what they want you token of Trump. Lester Holt says he wants to know the other two times, \u2019cause Trump says one was here at dinner. So Lester Holt says, &#8220;Well, that was one meeting. What were the other two times when Comey told you that you were not under investigation?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>THE PRESIDENT: He said it once at dinner, and then he said it twice during phone calls.<\/p>\n<p>HOLT: Did &#8212; did you call him?<\/p>\n<p>THE PRESIDENT: In one case, I called him. In one case, he called me.<\/p>\n<p>HOLT: And did you ask him, &#8220;Am I under investigation?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>THE PRESIDENT: I actually asked him, yes. I said, &#8220;If it\u2019s possible, would you let me know? Am I under investigation?&#8221; He said, &#8220;You are not under investigation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: Okay. So you know what\u2019s happening now. The little hamsters at the Drive-By Media are now running in their wheels like crazy here trying to find evidence that Trump has lied here. They are not gonna give up. They\u2019re gonna find an anonymous source that\u2019s once or three times removed from Comey who says, &#8220;I don\u2019t think that the director would ever say that.&#8221; They\u2019re not gonna find somebody to deny it outright. What they\u2019ll do is they\u2019ll talk to people who know Comey. They\u2019ll talk to people who know people who know Comey, talk to people who know Comey and knew Comey then and might know Comey in the future.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ll talk to people who have some connection to somebody who knows Comey who will say, &#8220;That\u2019s not the way the director operated! That would be very, very unusual.&#8221; So they\u2019ll do anything they can to cast aspersions on this. Because, remember, it\u2019s personal. Trump\u2019s a pig, and he\u2019s got to go. This that we\u2019re watching is character assassination, career assassination. This is what the left does. When they can\u2019t beat people at ballot boxes, when they can\u2019t beat people in the arena of ideas, this is exactly what they do.
