RUSH: The Democrats, ladies and gentlemen, have already started their implosion. Nancy Pelosi has exempted StarKist tuna, which is actually Del Monte, from the minimum wage bill. They are in her district, Del Monte is in San Francisco, and the StarKist tuna factory on American Samoa, which employs about 500 Samoans, and it\u2019s I guess 75% of the island\u2019s workforce, they have a minimum wage there of $3 and something, and they have been exempted from the new minimum wage law by Nancy Pelosi. <\/p>\n

Pelosi then told Chuck Rangel (summarized exchange), ‘Hey, look, get going on that tax increase for people who make half a million dollars or more,\u2019 and Rangel said, ‘Screw it! I\u2019m not doing that. This is not the time to start talking about taxes, and if we do this, I\u2019m going to have hearings.\u2019 She said, ‘No, you\u2019re not going to have hearings. You\u2019re just going to do it. He said, ‘No,\u2019 and he had hearings anyway in private, ‘this is not time to talk about this.\u2019 <\/p>\n

Charles Rangel is butting heads now with Nancy Pelosi, just a week into the new Congress controlled by their party, This is, by the way, an exclusive to the New York Post. ‘Rangel yesterday swatted down a tax hike that Pelosi has floated, and he made an end run around her decision to bypass House committees in a rush to bring bills to a vote. ‘There\u2019s a lot of tension there,\u2019 one Democratic lawmaker said of the relationship between Rangel and Pelosi.\u2019 Rangel runs the Ways and Means Committee, and Pelosi ‘raised on Sunday of repealing tax cuts for those earning more than $500,000 per year. ‘We haven\u2019t gotten that far to be talking about tax increases,\u2019 Rangel told The Post. ‘She hasn\u2019t discussed it with me . . . We haven\u2019t gotten into tax policy.\u2019 Pelosi had said nixing tax cuts for half-million-dollar earners ‘might be more important to the American people than ignoring the educational and health needs of America\u2019s children.”<\/p>\n

Now, stop and think about that. Nancy Pelosi thinks that she can score more political points by effectively raising taxes on people who earn a half million dollars a year, or more, than she can by securing health care and education. This is odd. This is odd, and it\u2019s crazy, but it just goes to show you what they think they\u2019ve created. They think they\u2019ve created a nation of boiling, enraged, angry Americans filled with class envy who are not doing well at all. It\u2019s soup line America out there, and by God, it\u2019s time to get even with the achievers! It\u2019s time to get even with them — and if she really thinks that she can score more political points on a tax increase on that few people, a tax increase which is not going to improve anybody else\u2019s standard of living, just wait, folks. It\u2019s going to happen sooner than I thought. By the way, by calling out Pelosi, Rangel ‘has emerged as the first old-school committee ‘baron\u2019 with the political juice to spar with\u2019 her, and what else have they done?<\/p>\n

In the Senate, big legislation yesterday, that Dingy Harry lost nine Democrats on a piece of ethics legislation about earmarks. You know, the real question is, the real bet in Washington, how long is it going to be before Pelosi stops talking to Reid, because Reid\u2019s not going to be able to advance her agenda. Whatever legislation comes out of the House, Reid is going to need nine votes to get it passed, nine more votes than he\u2019s got, and Mitch McConnell, the Republican Senate leader, can lose eight of the votes he\u2019s got, because you need 60. So she\u2019s going to sit over there stymied and frustrated, especially as her legislation gets changed, such as the minimum wage, because the Senate\u2019s going to add some tax cuts to it while Pelosi\u2019s wanting tax increases all over the place. Ah, this is going to be fun. Everybody wants to talk about the ‘civil war\u2019 in Iraq and all this. There\u2019s a coming civil war in the Democrat Party, and I spelled it out for you yesterday, and I\u2019m going to do it again now so you understand it. What\u2019s happening, as far as the White House is concerned — I don\u2019t know if this is purposeful or not, but it is happening. <\/p>\n

All of this legislation in Pelosi\u2019s first 100 hours. She\u2019s ramming it through the House with no committee hearings, no debate — well, a little debate on the floor of the House, but, you know, no testimony from experts to comment on the effect of inflation. They\u2019re just ramming it through there. It\u2019s the minimum wage, whatever it is, it\u2019s all going to pass. Bush is not going to argue about any of it, immigration. Stem cells may be the only thing. By the end of the first hundred hours or first six months, whatever it is, the only thing left on the table to argue about is going to be Iraq. They\u2019re not going to be arguing about judges, especially in the House, and Bush has withdrawn some controversial, so-called controversial nominees, and some of the others have withdrawn themselves. So we\u2019re waiting for a Supreme Court resignation or something more tragic for another nominee there. We don\u2019t know when that\u2019s going to happen. So the only thing left on the table that Bush really is going to fight for \u2019til the end of his presidency is Iraq, and there\u2019s nothing the Democrats can do about it.<\/line>All they can do is conduct their hearings. All they can do is conduct investigations, their mock impeachment hearings or whatever else they do; bring all these people up to demand answers on these things, but is that going to satisfy the cook fringe that elected these people? They didn\u2019t elect them for investigations and hearings. They elected them to get \u2019em out of Iraq, to get us out of Iraq, and when Pelosi doesn\u2019t deliver on that, and when Dingy Harry doesn\u2019t deliver on that, all these other little bits of legislation that the House has passed that may never be signed into law by the president is not going to mollify these people and they\u2019re going to look ineffective. Pelosi and Reid are going to look like they can\u2019t get anything done. This is somewhat of a tactical mistake that they\u2019re making, just in a political sense here, because their campaign was on nothing — which was safe, as far as they\u2019re concerned. They ran on nothing. They purposely ran on nothing, other than Republicans are a bunch of crap, and we gotta get rid of them. <\/line><\/p>\n

Now that they\u2019ve gotten elected they\u2019re claiming a mandate and the things that they wouldn\u2019t dare run on they\u2019re now making front and center, and they\u2019re attaching themselves to these ideas personally that are not going to happen. They just couldn\u2019t wait! They\u2019ve been out of power for so long they just couldn\u2019t wait and they just couldn\u2019t be patient and they couldn\u2019t use these next two years to try to build a foundation for continuing election wins, and now they\u2019re going public with all of this behavior that is typical of who they are, and they\u2019ve always masked that and tried to camouflage it. My only question is, ‘Is this kind of like what Barbara Boxer to Condoleezza Rice?\u2019 It really is nothing compared to what has been said and done about Condoleezza Rice in the last three or four years, and that didn\u2019t seem to bother the American people. But we keep our fingers crossed, that at some point in time the American people will recognize the classless brutes, the angry, enraged, classless people that these Democrats have come to be in politics.<\/p>\n
